Thanks to the St Louis Video Society and their tireless efforts to unearth the finest independent cinema from our region, we have another couple of gems for you. Eric Stanze is, as far as I can tell, still living in the St Louis area and is still very much involved in the business – he edits documentaries for blu-rays, and also does 2nd unit directing for some fairly mainstream movies; but it’s his 25 years of making low-budget horror that we’re interested in here.
He’s achieved some notoriety in his career for horror movies like “Scrapbook” and “Ice From The Sun”, chock full of unusual imagery and ultra-violence, movies that even have the luxury of their own IMDb pages. But where we’re going we don’t need IMDb or, indeed, any other record of their existence (they’re not even listed on Stanze’s own site anymore,...

As someone who is a horror fan that lives in St. Louis, it was only inevitable that I would come across Wicked Pixel Cinema. My history of the local company goes back to high school when my drama teacher showed me her scene in Savage Harvest. She wouldn’t show the rest of the film but I knew the local video store supported the local movie studio’s work so I rented Savage Harvest along with The Fine Art on VHS. I was fascinated that someone local could make films and get them released in video stores. This was a time where VHS, especially genre films on VHS, would sell regardless. The product was in demand. I then explored the distributor, Sub Rosa (known then as Salt City) via b-movie.com. I later started buying some VHS tapes from Ron Bonk’s company like Strawberry Estates and the latest entry...

We will be running a interview with director Eric Stanze a little later today where I ask him about his upcoming film Stoplight but we wanted to quickly relay this announcement.
From the Press Release
Adam Ahlbrandt will play a major role in Eric Stanze’s upcoming feature film, Stoplight, produced by Wicked Pixel Cinema. Within the past month alone, Ahlbrandt was hyped up in the pages of both Fangoria Magazine and Gorezone Magazine, further indicating his rapidly expanding notoriety. He is the director of indie horror hits Cross Bearer and The Cemetery. Currently, Ahlbrandt is directing and acting in two new feature films, Hunters and The Sadist.
Wicked Pixel Cinema’s Stoplight is a road-trip odyssey, a gritty thriller, and a harrowing descent into madness. The film is directed by award-winning indie film veteran Eric Stanze, who helmed the critically-acclaimed movies Ratline, Deadwood Park, China White Serpentine, Scrapbook, and Ice From The Sun.

So there are two movements peacefully coexisting within the horror community regarding the quality of video you’re watching at home on your oversized television screen. The first movement involves a thing called a “blu ray” (not a death ray so don’t feel threatened by it). It provides beautiful high defintion picture, crystal audio, plenty of space for rad extra features, usually, more special features than your brain has room for. On the other side of the spectrum, there’s shot-on-video movies. By shot-on-video or Sov for short we mean movies that are shot on or made to look like they’ve been shot on camcorders on VHS tape or other similar medium. I believe the word you’re looking for is dichotomy or maybe something more philosophical like yin and yang. Today we’re here to talk about the Sov varietal with which you may be slightly unfamiliar...

The 2011 PollyGrind Film Festival recently wrapped up in Las Vegas, and the madman behind the scenes, Chad Clinton Freeman, checked in with Dread Central to share with us exclusively the winners of this year's fest.
Reveling in everything from arthouse to grindhouse to everything in between, PollyGrind has quickly made a name for itself as one of the up-and-coming premiere genre fests out there due to the success of each year of programming. This year's big winners (and flicks that will no doubt go on to find audiences soon) include the highly controversial The Bunny Game, The Super, Dear God No!, The Gruesome Death of Tommy Pistol and Ratline.
"I was very happy with the quantity of quality films and the diversity I was able to program this year," Freeman said. "Being able to world premiere films like Mondo Sexxxx: The Terry Kobrah Story and The Gruesome Death of Tommy Pistol,...
