The 'I Don't Care' Guy
boblipton7 November 2019
Marcel Perez is admiring his new automobile when a cop points out it has no license. Our hero doesn't care, and promptly takes off. The officer of the law gets a bunch of other cops, who mount their bicycles and set off in hot pursuit.

The gag here is that Perez goes ahead, an incidental barrier is raised, and the cops crash into it at speed, never pausing. This is Italian slapstick, and if you wondered about the survival of Mack Sennett's Keystone Cops, the ones here will terrify you. Still, there is something inherent blithe and amusing about their heedless pursuit of both duty and concussion that was amusing for the first few iterations.

It's not one of Perez' better comedies. He was an inventive fellow who did a lot of good ones, but the pace of production meant that some were not as good as others. This is one of the some. Good thing it's short.

L'auto di Robinet review

A silly chase comedy, which, apart from a lame punchline, is exactly the kind of movie that was popular way back in 1905.
