Henry Saine is the director behind The Last Lovecraft: Relic of Cthulhu a film that mixes the humor of such Gen X styled comedies such as Reality Bites, Clueless, Floundering, etc. It then throws in some sci-fi with, of course, some horror. After all, this does have Lovecraft in the title and you couldn't do this type of film without some horror elements. Saine was all to bring a seamless quality to the narrative of the film making it so that the various story tangents flowed with one another, instead of feeling jerky or uneven. After waiting for what seems like ages, director Henry Saine’s inspired horror/comedy “The Last Lovecraft: Relic of Cthulhu” is finally coming to DVD courtesy of Dark Sky Films. As a fan of most things Lovecraft — I’ll refrain from commenting on some of the lamer adaptations of this admittedly peculiar author’s body of work — this promising little flick has been on my radar for quite some time. Sadly, I’d almost completely forgotten about the title, that is, until I bore witness to the trailer on the “Bitter Feast” DVD, which just so happens to be another Dark Sky Films. Imagine that! If you live in a country where cable television is not a foreign concept, than chances are you might have bumped into the German television movie Das Jesus Video... or The Hunt for the Hidden Relic... or Ancient Relic... or Hunt for the Jesus Video... There are several titles by which you can find this picture, which was based on the popular novel of Andreas Eschnbach, which mixes the time traveling ideas of Michael Crichton's Timeline with the religious conspiracies of Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code. In this novel (and movie), a young archeologist finds the skeleton of a time traveler in Israel. Apparently somebody went back in time to make a video recording of Jesus Christ and then hid the casette at a secret location. COLOGNE -- David Groenewold's German Film Prods. has boarded the children's film Hui Buh -- Das Schlossgespenst (Hui Buh -- The Castle Ghost), which features local comedy star Michael "Bully" Herbig, Groenwold said Monday. Herbig, who directed and starred in the German boxoffice hits Dreamship Surprise and Manitou's Shoe, plays the title role of the clumsy ghost Hui Buh. The cast also features Heike Makatsch (Love, Actually) and German comedy star Christoph Maria Herbst. GFP will co-finance the film with producers Constantin Film and Christian Becker's Rat Pack Filmproduktion. GFP and Rat Pack previously teamed for last year's comedy spoof The Wanker, a surprise hit which took in more than $14 million at the German boxoffice. Sebastian Niemann, who helmed the German TV movie The Jesus Video for Rat Pack and GFP, will direct Hui Buh.
