WWE 2K18 is about to be added to the Nintendo Switch library! Now give me a hell yeah!
Oooooh! Nintendo Switch! Don't You Dare Be Sour, Clap For Your World Famous WWE 2K Game And Feel The Powaaah!
The New Day and the rest of the WWE locker room will be joining the Nintendo Switch family when 2K Games releases WWE 2K18 this Wednesday for Nintendo's mobile console. WWE 2K18, previously released in October, is the next in the growing number of 3rd party games getting a delayed release for the up-and-coming console.
Despite its delayed release on Nintendo Switch, 2K is still releasing WWE 2K18 at full value with all the same content and prices as if it were October 17, with both physical and digital copies. What's different, though, is that they are making the Cena (Nuff) version exclusively digital at $89.99. Here is everything that comes with the Deluxe...

2K have revealed details surrounding the significant overhaul for the popular King of the Ring mode in WWE SuperCard – Season 4, the action-packed collectible card-battling game with more than 15 million global downloads to date. New features for King of the Ring 2.0 include:
King of the Ring 2.0 – Shortened Duration In King of the Ring 2.0, the time to complete an entire King of the Ring has been halved to just over one day, enabling players to get in and out much faster and have a better experience while dominating their competition; King of the Ring is still a mode where players manage their Superstar Stamina via Energy cards earned from smashing other players in different modes, but in Season 4, players can complete an entire King of the Ring in just over one day, while the player pool has been increased to 32. Standing there adorned in his cape and crown, the 1995 King Of The Ring winner soaked up boos from the World Wrestling Federation’s fans. ‘King’ Mabel had been crowned, defeating the likes of The Undertaker and Savio Vega on his way to becoming only the third ‘King’ in the history of the event on pay-per-view. There was only one major problem, fans weren’t booing because they detested Mabel as a top heel, they were jeering because they hated the idea of him being in main events.
People recoiled instantly at the mere thought of seeing Mabel vs. Diesel at that year’s SummerSlam. Previous King Of The Ring winners like Bret Hart and Owen Hart had seemed deserved, due to their incredible skill inside the ring. Mabel was simply an extremely large man, a physical attribute Vince McMahon seemed to think would be enough to explain why he was headlining.

May, 1995 was the month when the then-World Wrestling Federation decided to go monthly with their pay-per-view specials. The previous year, only Royal Rumble, WrestleMania, King Of The Ring, SummerSlam and Survivor Series had been on PPV, but they were soon joined by the In Your House series. This allowed Vince McMahon to offer fans cut-price events which would help fill in the gaps between the major shows.
Over time, the idea of monthly pay-per-view would prove to be a success, but it’d take the WWF audience a while to warm up to the concept. The cheaper In Your House shows were two hours in length, shorter than the three afforded to the regular supershows. They came across as lower rent too, but that didn’t mean there couldn’t be awesome matches for fans who did tune in to enjoy.
Eventually, the In Your House branding lessened,...

News broke Tuesday that reigning King of the Ring and five-time Intercontinental Champion Wade “Bad News” Barrett has chosen to leave WWE when his contract is up in June. According to reports, the League of Nations member – who’s currently out of action with a neck injury – is unhappy with the way he’s been used in the company and has decided to pursue other options.
Barrett first joined WWE in 2010 as part of the cast of the first season of Nxt (back then, the show was a competition for developmental talent trying to make it to the main roster). Barrett won and led the rest of the cast to Raw as The Nexus, a heel stable that spent months disturbing WWE programming.
As the group’s leader, Barrett feuded with John Cena and Randy Orton, but he came up short in both programs and never reached the main event again.

In an exclusive report from ProWrestlingSheet.com, Ryan Satin has broken the news that WWE star Wade Barrett has opted not to renew his WWE contract that expires this summer
The reason the purveyor of Bad News seems to be leaving is that he’s unhappy with his role and direction in the company. Barrett’s current deal reportedly runs out in June or July.
Barrett signed with WWE ten years ago before making his main roster debut in 2010 as part of Nexus. Initially, Barrett was used as a main eventer, headlining pay per-views with John Cena and Randy Orton. He was even scheduled to face Undertaker at WrestleMania 27 but WWE had jobbed the Nexus out so much that there was little value left in Barrett for such a marquee spot.
Wade would go on to be the leader of the Corre, then brought the Barrett Barrage onto...

In the span of a few months, Roman Reigns has already become a two-time WWE World Heavyweight champion, and likely by WrestleMania 32, he will have won the prestigious prize a total of three times. But just about anyone can see that WWE is high on Reigns and his potential be to be a franchise player for the organization for years to come.
The fact of the matter is, he has been heavily protected since his arrival on the scene in late 2012 and will continued to be groomed to be “the next guy” for as long as Vince McMahon is behind him, despite what fans might think of him.
Unfortunately, not every Superstar has that kind of luxury, and if they do, officials aren’t high on them for very long. It has long been a fact of WWE that it is a land of the giants, dating back...

With the Royal Rumble in the history books and WWE on the road to WrestleMania, my countdown of WrestleMania trips leading up to the show in Dallas continues this week with my 2010 trip to see WrestleMania Xxvi in Phoenix, Arizona.
Since I’d never been to the West Coast for a prolonged period of time, my friends and I decided we’d go to San Jose, San Francisco, Phoenix and finish the trip off in Las Vegas. This meant going to see the go-home Raw before WrestleMania, all the festivities in Phoenix and catching the post-‘Mania SmackDown too.
It was a lot of wrestling in the space of 8 days, but we were confident that we’d have a great time.
One of the greatest parts of the trip was WrestleMania Axxess. WWE had really upped their game when it came to memorabilia and artefacts on show to the general public.

The professional wrestling world lost another member over this past weekend, as former WWE (then WWF) superstar “Iron” Mike Sharpe passed away. He was 64 years old.
WWE.com confirmed the news Monday.
Sharpe, whose father and uncle wrestled professionally as a tag team in the 50s, began training at the age of 25, under Dewey Robertson, and made his debut back in 1973. The Hamilton, Ontario native would wrestle for numerous Canadian promotions including Gene Kiniski’s Nwa All-Star Wrestling, and also appeared in Mid-South wrestling, winning a couple of belts after moving to Louisiana.
He signed with the then-wwf in 1983, calling himself “Canada’s Greatest Athlete” and wearing a trademark black arm brace supposedly covering up an injury that just never seemed to heal – and which doubled as a hiding spot for foreign objects he could then sneak into matches.

In this regular feature I intend to put my quarter-of-a-century of wrestling viewing to good use by helping to educate and inform the modern fan about the greats of a generation they missed out on.
Bret Hart was one of the greatest in-ring performers of all time, possessing the ability to contest barn-burning matches with a variety of different opponents. He was a master technician. A creator of fine art between the ropes. He has not wrestled in a decade-and-a-half, so chances are many of the new generation of wrestling fans have never had the pleasure of watching him wrestle.
It would be all too easy to randomly select seven great Bret Hart matches, and lists of that ilk are readily available for those who want them. Everybody knows about Hart’s classics with Davey Boy Smith (SummerSlam ’92 and In Your House 5), Steve Austin (Survivor Series ’96 and WrestleMania 13...

The past twelve months weren’t exactly a banner year for WWE. Poor ratings and even worse creative left the company in something of a funk going into the Christmas period. Match quality, though, is not something that the WWE roster struggles to maintain. There are A-grade performers on every rung of WWE’s talent ladder and just about every wrestler the company employs is capable of putting on a standout match when the stars align.
Some of the best WWE matches of the year are those that have been overlooked by many since they initially took place. These ten bouts have been criminally underrated across the board, but should be held up as prime examples of the best in-ring work that WWE has to offer.

King Barrett returned to action at this week’s SmackDown taping after a baffling absence from the ring.
It turns out that the King of the Ring has been rehabbing his neck after suffering “a little bit of nerve damage, but nothing major.”
Fans were rightly concerned about five-time Intercontinental Champion’s absence due to the fact WWE made absolutely no reference to it either on commentary or online. They could have kept us up to date, at least.

Barrett was missing from Sunday’s TLC pay per view event where he failed to take part in any of the League of Nation’s matches, while he was also nowhere to be seen when Rusev and Alberto Del Rio attacked Roman Reigns in the main event.

2015 has largely been a year of complaints for wrestling fans regarding WWE. There are genuine worries about where the company are headed, with the top grievance revolving around exactly who is being pushed to the top of the card. Other gripes include the fact that Monday Night Raw feels far too long, and traditional ideas like the ‘King Of The Ring’ have never felt so useless.
For every negative, there’s a positive. Nxt is – right now, at least – a crown jewel on the WWE landscape. In addition, WrestleMania is right around the corner. That’s an event even the most jaded of fans looks forward to seeing, because WWE usually wheel out everything they can to help make the show feel more special than the last. 2016 should be no exception, but what else is there to look forward to in the year ahead? After years of hype, multiple delays, and months of promotional advertising, the WWE Network finally launched in February 2014. A 24 hour professional wrestling channel has been the dream of WWE fans for decades and it finally became a reality a little less than two years ago.
Since then, the streaming video service has expanded its initial offering of 1,500 hours of content to over 4,000 hours (the entire WWE library has been said to hold over 150,000 hours). The promise of additional programming, including both archived footage and original content produced exclusively for the WWE Network, is ongoing.
WWE seem to recognise the potential they have with the Network since Beast In The East, Live From Madison Square Garden, the 2015 King of the Ring, and Elimination Chamber all were produced exclusively for it this past year. For as much progress has been made, there are also several areas where improvement and innovation are sorely needed.

Barely a week ago, WWE World Champion Seth Rollins turned his knee into goo after botching a routine move. The Internet Wrestling Community was set on fire with speculation to the immediate future of the flagship of professional wrestling. And a few days later, the fire was doused with the reality of predictable corporate future endeavors. A tournament to crown the new king of the ring was announced (no, not the King of the Ring™… I’m being poetic, damnit), and the brackets were filled to the brim with rehashed match-ups.
To any savvy fan, the winner is already clear-cut. Worse than that, the obvious feuds they were building to were pre-populated into the tourney. It was the worst possible outcome following the worst possible injury to happen to the roster at the worst time.
What sucks the most though is what brings me here to my personal rant this week: the missed opportunities.

Throughout its 27-year history, there has been an impressive range of Survivor Series teams. I think it would be fair to say that most wrestling fans were disappointed with WWE 2K15. The series’ first outing on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 was seen as a significant step-down from the previous year’s release. Several features were scrapped, and the few added ones couldn’t make up for that fact. Plus, there were several technical issues. Since this is a yearly release now, Yuke’s and 2K Games are back once more, this time with WWE 2K16. With another year of current-gen development in its favor, could the franchise ascend to championship levels? Or is it just another jobber?
While it may never please gamers who are continually looking to relive WWF No Mercy, the gameplay found in WWE 2K16 represents the high point of the franchise thus far. It may not actually look anything like the action seen on screen, but the grappling and striking...

It’s fair to say that pro wrestling fans do an awful lot of complaining nowadays. On one side of the coin, that shows people really care about the industry. On the other, it proves that almost everybody feels they could book World Wrestling Entertainment more effectively than the folks actually employed to do so.
Wrestling fans should be passionate, and they should care about what goes on week-to-wee in WWE. However, that’s not to say that the people are always correct. As shocking as it may sound, there are occasions when both hardcore and casual grappling enthusiasts want things that simply wouldn’t work out in the long run. The reasons for this are varied, and this article explores many of them.

WWE 2K16 is less than a month away, and a post on the 2K forums has revealed the confirmed Stone Cold Steve Austin matches in 2K Showcase Austin mode.
There’s some classics in there, no doubt about that. Getting to play through Austin’s epic feud with Bret Hart that culminated at WrestleMania 13, and his unforgettable match with The Rock at WrestleMania 17, it is going to be a nostalgic rollercoaster of excitement.
But there’s also a range of classics that 2K have neglected to include. Some of the omissions are forced on 2K, as not every wrestler from the period is under a WWE contract or were available for the game. Other omissions are blatant oversights, but at least the overall quality of the Austin content looks good.
The matches to be included are-
vs. Pillman – Clash Of The Champions Xxv
vs. Steamboat – Bash At The Beach ’94

On October 19th, Brock Lesnar will join Stone Cold Steve Austin’s podcast on the WWE Network, for one of the most anticipated sit-down interviews in wrestling history.
The podcast is part of Brock Lesnar’s “Go To Hell Tour”, which includes a date with The Big Show on October 3rd in Madison Square Garden, and ends with the climax to his epic rivalry with The Undertaker at Hell In A Cell on October 25th.
The history between Austin and Lesnar is well-documented. The two men have been the subject of WrestleMania 32 rumours for months, and were joined at the hip during Stone Cold’s walkout on WWE in 2002, when Austin refused to lose to Brock in a first round King of The Ring match on Raw with no buildup.
Since that time, much has happened in Brock’s career, including his short pursuit of NFL glory, his reign as the Ufc Heavyweight Champion,...

As producers of the highly anticipated Chris Benoit movie Crossface continue their search for an actor to play the lead role in the controversial biopic, WWE fans wait with baited breath for any news on the project. The will he/won’t he Liev Schreiber saga was recently put to bed by the team behind the film, who denied any truth in the rumour that the Ray Donovan star had been cast as the late Canadian wrestler.
Based on Matthew Randazzo’s book Ring Of Hell: The Story of Chris Benoit and the Fall of the Pro Wrestling Industry, the film has been described as a biological thriller that explores the trials and tribulations Benoit faced throughout his illustrious professional wrestling career, exposing his drug-use and depression like never before and leading up to that tragic weekend in 2007 when Benoit murdered his wife and young son before committing suicide.

Few wrestling matches are as revered as Undertaker vs Mankind at King of the Ring 1998. Although hardly a classic in any technical sense of the term, the bout lives on as the jaw-dropping pinnacle of the WWE’s most shocking era.
Most iconic matches feature one iconic spot – Hogan’s slamming of Andre, for example, or Stone Cold passing out in Bret Hart’s Sharpshooter. Undertaker vs Mankind features two of the most awe-inspiring moments in wrestling history, and a large handful of other ludicrous incidents to boot.
The match single-handedly saved an otherwise lacklustre pay per view, one which also featured a stinker of a WWF Championship bout between Austin and Kane (a First Blood match, despite the challenger being known for his full body suit and mask). Elsewhere on the card, Ken Shamrock won the King of the Ring tournament, X-Pac got the better of Owen Hart,...

The full content listing for the upcoming WWE DVD and Blu-ray set on the life and death of Owen Hart has been revealed, courtesy of the Wrestling DVD Network. The list includes all chapter titles for the documentary feature on disc one, as well as all extras, including the full list of matches selected for the package.
Bret Hart recently commented on the documentary portion of the set, sounding very pessimistic about the chances that the documentary will do a good job telling the full story of his brother’s life. Bret believes that WWE is having to walk on egg shells to cater to Owen’s widow, Martha, who is not supporting the DVD release.
Bret told the Fight Network:

Rematches are always tricky to predict. Not the outcome, mind you, but the quality fans can expect from the bout. After all, there is a reason the original contest is considered a classic. That first match took fans on an emotional roller coaster that allowed them to completely invest themselves in the action unfolding before them. From storytelling to actual wrestling, everything clicked to create an unforgettable performance by all involved.
Sometimes, the rematch eclipses the original, as was the case in 1993 when Bret Hart and Mr. Perfect delivered a semifinal King of the Ring tournament match that surpassed their SummerSlam classic from two years earlier. Hart also wrestled a far superior match with Diesel in November 1995 at the Survivor Series than he did earlier that year at the Royal Rumble, making The Hitman one of the kings of the rematch.
Not every rematch is achieving legendary status.

It wasn’t a great week for King Barrett after losing at SummerSlam in a tag match and then being attacked by his SummerSlam partner, Stardust. He was hit with Stardust’s finisher and rolled out of the ring because he’s been written off television.
Barrett mentioned on Twitter recently that he was filming a new WWE Studios film called “Eliminators” in September. Normally the filming of WWE movies takes about six weeks, so it’s likely that he won’t be back on WWE television for a few months.
In other Barrett news, he also recently changed his Twitter display name to Stu Bennett, which is his real name. He also noted that he was headed to England.
Heading home. Not a moment too soon.

WWE.com have released several videos related to WWE 2K16, including one of Steve Austin’s famous moments when he said “Austin 3:16 says I just whooped your ass” at King of the Ring 1996.
That moment was the beginning of Austin’s rise to the top of WWE. He was a heel at the time, but he spoke with such passion and everything he said was believable, which is why he turned face over the next year. Plus, they didn’t have scripted word for word promos back then, so it came from the heart and it made it a lot more genuine than promos you see in WWE today.
He said the “Austin 3:16″ part because Jake Roberts was doing a gimmick of a man that was a bible thumper type that referenced John 3:16, so Austin put his own spin on it. It is the promo...

SummerSlam is one of WWE’s biggest Pay-Per-Views of the year. Traditionally, the event bridged the gap between WrestleMania and Survivor Series, before King Of The Ring was added to the line-up in 1993. Cheerfully, the event has always performed admirably on PPV, and the company regularly pull out big matches to try and make the show as grand as possible.
Regardless of any good intentions, there have been a ton of stinkers at SummerSlam. Featured here are 10 of the worst culprits, and this article tries to explore exactly why the creative team felt these matches would work. In fairness, some of them should have been better than they turned out, but others were doomed to fail from the start.
The reasons are varied. From performers who should never have reached such a platform, to those who simply didn’t do themselves justice, these are 10 of the most unbelievably dreadful SummerSlam bouts in history.

With an outstanding roster of Superstars and Divas, coupled with interesting creative lines, WWE was finally able to defeat WCW in the Monday Night Wars and solidify itself as the #1 wrestling promotion in the United States.
But who deserves the crown as the best star in WWE’s most important modern era?

They will be ranked based on a combination of factors: wrestling ability, charisma, drawing power, promo ability and general versatility. Each individual will be given an overall star rating, and in the event that multiple Superstars have the same rating,...

So, how is WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns doing fending off challengers? Is Intercontinental Champion Daniel Bryan tearing up the midcard? What about the company’s prestigious 2015 King of the Ring King Barrett?
If looking back at the first six months of 2015 has taught wrestling fans anything, it’s that plans rarely turn out exactly how you envision them. When WWE entered 2015, Roman Reigns was the heir apparent, a man who would win the Royal Rumble right off the bat and presumably build up to a heroic conquering of the Beast, Brock Lesnar, at WrestleMania Xxxi to capture the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
But that and several other plans have been tossed aside as the first half of the year has worn on, whether due to injuries, fan reaction or just the whims of those in charge. Not all of these changes have been bad, but this...

Even though it hasn’t been confirmed by WWE, 2K Sports, or Stone Cold Steve Austin himself, everyone knows that the main feature mode in WWE 2K16 will be surrounding the Texas Rattlesnake.
And even though it is arguably the worst kept secret in the history of WWE games, what the feature will actually focus on is pretty much up in the air.
Leaked video footage appeared to show Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler and Jim Ross recording commentary for the new game. The video shows the back of King and Jr as they recite their lines for the new game.
As the pair are doing their thing, they both mention one notable addition to the mode and the game’s roster as a whole, which has since been confirmed, in Shawn Michaels.

The Attitude Era was undoubtedly the most exciting period in the modern history of professional wrestling, bringing about a second golden era for the WWF and catapulting them past WCW to dominate the mainstream world. Superstars became household names, storylines were captivating, and Pay Per Views were doing huge numbers.
However, the period had a well-documented dark side. Thanks to the risk/reward strategy favoured by a creative team including the infamous Vince Russo, when things went wrong in the Attitude Era, they did so spectacularly.
Every match on this list is ridiculous for one reason or another; some are ruined by a naturally ludicrous stipulation, while others aimed for an epic atmosphere and badly missed the mark, instead coming across as incredibly silly.

There has been a lot of debate over the years regarding who, exactly, was the best manager in the history of professional wrestling. One could argue for Bobby Heenan based on his pivotal role in promoting WrestleMania III, or Paul Heyman for his advocacy of Brock Lesnar alone, but in wrestling, success is measured in gold. If we frame success in terms of championships won — which is the idea of wrestling, after all — who was the statistically best manager of them all?
To answer that question, it was necessary to not only tally the number of championships, but also to weigh them appropriately in terms of prestige. Championships were therefore tiered in the following categories:
Tertiary titles (Television, Hardcore, European, and state-specific titles of national promotions), both single and tag, are worth one point.
Secondary titles (Intercontinental, U.S., King of the Ring, and regional titles of national promotions), both single and tag,...

It’s been 13 years since Stone Cold Steve Austin vs Brock Lesnar was first presented to WWE fans. In June 2002, a match between the air was announced on a random Monday Night Raw as a King of the Ring qualifying match without any build-up whatsoever, with Lesnar only a few weeks into his time on the WWE roster.
However, that match never occurred due to Austin’s objection to losing clean to a rookie without any build-up, and his growing frustration with WWE creative that stretched back to Wrestlemania 18. The legend of the match has grown considerably in recent times, partly because of how large Lesnar became as a main evener that transcended the sport, and it being the tipping point of Austin leaving the company.
Shortly after that, Austin and Lesnar’s careers would go in different directions, but the question always remained…What If?

It is hard to believe that Money In The Bank is less than three weeks away. WWE are cramming in specials like crazy, all in an effort to maintain a million strong WWE Network subscriber rate.
But with something like Money In The Bank, it requires longer term thinking. WWE can’t book it on the fly like they did King Of The Ring and Elimination Chamber.
Indeed, the plans for Mitb are likely to be already locked in place. Vince McMahon will know who his ladder match briefcase winner is.
What makes this year so interesting is that there are so many potential winners. Lots of guys on the main roster could really benefit from the briefcase. It could be used to elevate a new talent, or to re-establish a bankable star. There’s even scope for the winner to be a major swerve moment or big return.

The just-held King of the Ring 2015 will be remembered as the night we crowned Wade Barrett as king. However, look back 17 years ago to June 28, 1998’s 1998 King of the Ring tournament and no, Ken Shamrock’s victory via submission over The Rock is not what you’re remembering most.
Eleven times out of ten, it’s that one time, two times, three times, no, make that like five different times that The Undertaker nearly legitimately killed Mankind.
See, Undertaker versus Mankind on one level was a Hell in the Cell booked in order to add a darker veneer to The Undertaker’s character. Just one month prior, Mankind was Dude Love, a comic foil to Mr. McMahon who was bent on winning the WWF Championship from Steve Austin. One month later, he was shirt-and-tie wearing Mankind, being sent after an Undertaker that Vince McMahon had challenged to be a meaner and angrier wrestler.

Smackdown was taped on Tuesday night in Ottawa, Canada. The show started with Jerry The King Lawler interviewing Bad News Barrett. The heel said that Lawler wasn’t a real king, because he’d never won King Of The Ring. He demanded that Lawler say “All hail King Barrett” but he refused.
Barrett then lined up a Bull Hammer, but Dolph Ziggler made the save. This set up Ziggler vs Barrett, but that went to a Dq when Sheamus interfered. Neville then ran in for the save, which set up a tag match.
Ziggler and Neville defeated Barrett and Sheamus, with Dolph pinning the Irishman.
Luke Harper beat Fandango. Notably, Erick Rowan is back as a heel, when he attacked Fandango.
Rusev and Lana were out next, with a huge babyface reaction for Lana. That resulted in Rusev sending her to the back again. The heel then said...

Extreme Rules is over and now the road to WWE Payback is here. We already know the main event of the May 17 PPV is going to be Seth Rollins defending the WWE Title against Randy Orton and Roman Reigns while John Cena will have one more match with Rusev, which will be an I Quit match. Those matchups aren’t that fresh or new, but that’s how WWE is these days. The product just isn’t that exciting right now.
It’s not necessarily a talent problem. There are so many talented performers in WWE on both the main roster and Nxt. The problem, most of the time, revolves around the creative team. They just don’t do a very good job of putting together storylines that are exciting or worth going out of your way to see. It’s the same basic stuff all the time.

What in the hell is going on in wrestling? Billy Corgan joins Tna creative, King of the Ring returns from a five year hiatus, Eric Bischoff was rumored to join Global Force Wrestling, and Roman Reigns and The Big Show put on the most entertaining match on a pay-per-view!
Perhaps even more surprising is that Jbl talked about Game of Thrones, which is the first time he mentioned a TV show that didn’t air in the 1970s. Too bad he got the character’s name wrong. It’s Joffrey Baratheon, not Joffrey Lannister! Send him to The Wall!
Elsewhere in wrestling this week, Sheamus proved he’s the master of the kiss me upper thigh match. Though if Dolph Ziggler signed a contract to fight in that stipulated match, can’t he legally force Sheamus to kiss his butt? It seems that should be a thing, otherwise...

WWE sprang the King of the Ring on us from out of nowhere, which marked its return after a five year hiatus with a two night tournament. It started on Raw and concluded the next night on a WWE Network special before the Smackdown taping. The final saw Bad News Barrett claim the throne after hitting Neville with the Bullhammer.
The King of the Ring presented a few possibilities, with some that were interesting and others cringe-worthy. Bringing the tournament back to elevate a new and exciting star like Neville would have been okay in the eyes of many fans, while wasting it on R-Truth would have left many frustrated. The WWE went with Bad News Barrett – a good worker, both on the microphone and in the ring, who the fans like and could use the rub of a King of the Ring triumph after an abysmally-booked run with the Intercontinental title.

Without doubt, the recent spur-of-the-moment King of the Ring tournament could have been handled infinitely better – as in actually advertised, built up and given significance in the weeks prior – but all is now said and done and we have a new King in the form of Wade Barrett.
Barrett may have been the predictable choice for the crown, but he was also likely the best choice out of the superstars involved in the two-night tournament. With his Intercontinental Title match pulled from the recent Extreme Rules show due to Daniel Bryan’s injury situation, winning King of the Ring was a decent compensation prize for the Englishman.
The former leader of both the Nexus and the Corre has had an up and down WWE career to date, having had his time in the main event scene, held multiple mid-card titles, yet had various unfortunate injury setbacks that seem...

WWE brought back an oldie but goodie this week, resurrecting the King of the Ring tournament for the first time in nearly five years. Throughout the late 80s, 90s and early 2000s, the single-elimination tournament was a staple of WWE, often providing a springboard for up-and-coming wrestlers to compete for a title that typically carried little more than a crown and scepter, but managed to become a fairly prestigious designation.
That might sound a little surprising to more recent fans, but one look at some of the WWE Hall of Famers who have won or simply competed in the tournament shows that this event certainly was a big deal and viewed as a stepping stone for wrestlers, particularly in the late 90s and early 2000s.
So it was somewhat surprising to see King of the Ring sputter in the 2000s, disappearing for three years between 2003-05, then returning...

Booker T has apologised after making a terrible gaffe about Owen Hart on Monday Night Raw. During the Neville versus Luke Harper match, the following conversation took place between Jbl and Booker –
“Adrian Neville may be the first high-flying King Of The Ring”
“Owen Hart was a high flyer but not like this”
“Owen didn’t defy gravity”
That final comment from Booker T is terribly misjudged. Owen Hart fell to his death from a height of 78 feet at a WWF show in 1999. Booker’s comments sounded like they were jokingly referencing the fall, but he has insisted that the comment was actually just an error.
“I would never say anything to disrespect the legacy of Owen Hart. If I did offend anyone, I apologize,” he tweeted after Raw.
The fact that he tweeted is evidence of just how bad he must be feeling. He probably never meant his...

WWE brass seemingly woke up a few weeks ago and remembered that the company has an entire Network that they can produce and program shows for at any given time. While several of the new shows that are being rolled out this week and next are talking heads programs, WWE did seize upon the idea of adding original wrestling content by resurrecting the once-popular King of the Ring tournament, to be held in part on Raw Monday night and on the WWE Network Tuesday night.
The return of Kotr is a welcome addition for longtime fans who had trouble figuring out why an event that gave birth to Austin 3:16, the King of Harts and King Booker could be brushed aside so easily. WWE kicked off the eight-man tournament on Raw with four first-round matches, which dominated the in-ring action Monday night. Although it doesn’t look like...

For years, it seems like fans have been practically begging WWE to bring back the old King Of The Ring format. From 1993-2002, the Pay-Per-View bridged the gap between WrestleMania and Summerslam nicely – in fact, the show was considered part of the ‘classic’ eras of wrestling on PPV, long before the calendar was diluted by monthly supershows.
WWE have announced that the King Of The Ring will make a return, but only as a WWE Network special. Even so, this represents a nice re-airing for one of the most fondly-remembered gimmicks in grappling folklore. There was a time when being the ‘King’ meant something, but it remains to be seen whether or not the company will make something of this comeback.
Yes, the King Of The Ring is a beloved concept for sure, but it hasn’t always had the most celebrated history. Several duff winners have threatened to derail the premise,...

A world title. A championship opportunity. The special designation of “king.” A cool looking trophy. Whatever the prize is at the end of a wrestling tournament, it doesn’t really matter too much in the grand scheme of things. What does matter is that a whole slew of grapplers will be put in brackets and pitted against each other creating a number of interesting matchups and possibilities.
You name a top legend in the business and that person has probably won a major tournament at some point in their career. Sting, Triple H, Bret Hart, The Rock,Randy Savage, The Road Warriors, Steve Austin and Chris Jericho are just a few of the icons who have a major tournament victory to their list of career accomplishments.
Sometimes these tournaments don’t deliver and we end up with less than desirable matches and winners. (King Mabel anyone?) Yet, when...

Year eight of the World Wrestling Entertainment career of Sheamus finds the master of the Brogue Kick possibly at a career crossroads. A three-time World champion, two-time United States champion, Royal Rumble and King of the Ring winner, he’s reached a point where in having done possibly everything that one wrestler can do in WWE, he may be in need of a career refresh.
That point could be now, as rumors have him scheduled to return to face Daniel Bryan at Wrestlemania in a match that few “smarter” pro wrestling fans want to see, as they’d prefer the “Yes Movement” leader in the main event at the showcase of the immortals.
It’s moves like having Sheamus wrestle Daniel Bryan for the third time at Wrestlemania that may be part of Sheamus’ stalled career. He’s certainly agile, skilled at grappling, charismatic and wholly entertaining. However,...
