Very unexpected
MovieAddict201617 January 2006
Warning: Spoilers
A lowly woman gets on a French subway and is traveling in silence when a man suddenly appears and announces that he is in search of a woman as he hasn't been in love for over two years and is tired of feeling empty.

People laugh and scoff at the man but he ignores them, and asks any woman who is interested to get off at the next bus stop. Well, the bus stops, the woman gleefully gets off, turns around - only to realize the man on the bus was doing it solely for entertainment, to gain money from travelers.

The film ends with her standing on the platform, alone.

I was taken aback by the suddenness of the ending. It's pretty powerful, especially considering it's only four minutes long. But the director manages to convey a lot of things just through facial expressions, particularly the woman's.

Pretty brutal little film, but a very good one.

Good role model of short film
Fjkkn14 May 2021
I will wait for the next one is a short film and the leading character is a woman who has no dialogue. When she arrives at the station and goes down on the escalator, her gaze is drawn to a couple. She looks sad and bored by her day-to-day life. On the train, a man suddenly introduces himself and speaks out that he is looking for a lady who can share true love with him and then asks passengers to get off at the next station if interested. She gets curious.... While I think this film is flawless in its technical aspects, after I watched it, I felt really frustrated about the narrative. Contrary to the man, the woman doesn't say anything and only has facial expressions, but I can image her romantic background for some reason such as marital status in the past. I am curious about what happens next for the woman and the man and the situation on the train. I think this film is worth watching.

Interesting film
pinefgsgsu24 December 2021
"I'll Wait For The Next One" is a French short comedy drama film. It was made in 2002. A woman walks to the station with a lonely expression. When she gets on the train, a man also gets on it to introduce himself and says that he is looking for love to passengers in a loud voice. The woman has a puzzled look at first, but she comes to be interested in what he says and sympathize with his view of love. It is a story with a surprise ending. The title implies that the women waits for her destiny and I think she is so bored in her daily life so that she wants to believe the one and fate. However, I suppose the man makes fun of the women who are looking for partners seriously and I don't think it is a funny joke. I sympathized with her in the film. Furthermore, I have empathic embarrassment to watch this film. I believe people who care what other people think much would feel this embarrassment. I think the film is worth watching because it gives the audience the lesson that there some things are too good to be true.

This is absolutely brilliant.
Anonymous_Maxine7 March 2005
I'll Wait for the Next One sets itself up as a cute little comedy skit, and it delivers on that premise but also surprises you with an incredibly moving finale. Four minute comedies are not supposed to be as moving as this film is, it's funny, charming, and heartbreaking all at the same time, showing you your emotions in a combination that they are not generally found. I can't recommend this movie enough. By the end of the diminutive film you feel like you have known the characters for years, especially the lead man and the woman looking for love, probably because they so perfectly represent.

The look on the man's face and the woman's face at the end of the film are brief moments of sheer performing brilliance rarely seen, especially in a short film, which itself is rarely seen. Seek this one out, you will laugh and you will cry, and most of all you will be moved.

THIS is how a short movie should be!

Oh, this broke my heart! The filmmaker showed such skill as he told the story of the woman on the train with no words whatsoever. The actress was great. She just really brought to life her loneliness, from her buck teeth to her terrible scarf. She was just trying so hard. This was super-great. Except it was a bit devastating in the end...

Excellent way to use short time
craftholic19992 March 2019
The whole scenes of this film is take place at the train. One man gathers the attention by other passengers because he give a speech with loud voice to search the female who can share his romantic ideas. Most of people are laghed by his romantic idea but one lonely woman is moved by his word. This is very good way to make the short film I think. In other words, the director of this film is good to use time. I can not believe that this short film takes only about 4 minutes. It was really impressed story to me. In addition, there are some words that I can not understand in the film but from the act of characters, I can understand the story easily. Many people would enjoy this short film. If you have a spare time, you should watch this short film and do not miss the last scene of the film.

Sad ending

Warning: Spoilers
In this short movie, there is a lady, who is not in romantic relationships for a while and looking for the one for her. The story is happening on a train in France. After she passes by the couple in the station, she gets on the train. Her face is not bright and seems hopeless. A man gets on the train at the last minute, and he starts talking about "love." He is looking for a woman to date, and talking about his life, his salary, what he values and so on. Another man on the train makes fun of the man, but he did not stop. The woman's face gets brighter as she listens to his story. The man says that "if you would like to date me, please get off at the next station." The woman gets off the train with a happy feeling, but the man tells her that it is a performance, maybe to get money. This movie gives a shocking ending, and I liked it. I can see how the woman's emotion changes even though she does not say any words. The plot is straightforward but unpredictable, so it is interesting.

Warning: Spoilers
A middle-aged woman is walking alone and feeling lonely. When she gets on a train, she meets a man who is seeking a girlfriend. I like the first part of this film, the woman walking alone and looking at a couple. It empathizes loneliness of the woman perfectly even though she does not say anything. Also, I'm impressed that this film clearly shows the woman is a protagonist of the movie although she did not have a dialogue while a man has a dialogue almost the entire film. But I guess most of us can sympathize with the woman's feeling over the man because we can see how she feels more than him by her reaction. I think the entire film is well done including the story, camera work, and casting. The audience will be surprised by the ending. I wonder whether it was the woman's fault or man's one. She might be responsible for herself sticking in the idea of love or becoming desperate for a boyfriend. She should have been more careful not to be grabbed a chance immediately. The man also might be responsible for what he has been done. He did not try to deceive her into believing what he says, but this is a good lesson that you should not do things so confusing when it comes to relationship things. Which they sympathize with is up to the audience, which makes the story interesting. Overall, I really enjoyed watching this film.

An emotional ride
Jirorian4 June 2018
Quite literally an emotional ride, "I'll Wait for the Next One" offers the promise of a fateful encounter only to be challenged abruptly by a surprise ending. The surprise works because our feelings are channeled through the eyes of the woman, whom in becoming the dupe of the male perpetrator forces viewers along to share in her struggle. The film thus raises many questions regarding the nature of the conflict it depicts: why is it not surprising that the man is the perpetrator and the woman is the dupe? Why are we drawn to believe the man's story, and what does his final action reveal about the nature of men as societal beings? Is the ending a fault of the woman or of the man? If the woman is at fault, do women need to just be more careful in an overtly oppressive society? Or if the man is at fault, does he need to be more considerate of the extent to which his actions inflict damage upon society? The depiction is that both the woman and the man are at the extreme ends of their respective depths of capacity for emotional sentiment, and it is a very crude depiction that does little to progress away from the repression inherent to patriarchal societies. However, the responsibility to answer the questions posed by the film lies in the viewer, and as a result so too does the responsibility to make any changes in the real world away from what we see on screen.

you will keep wondering even it ends

Warning: Spoilers
This short film is very successful on building the character. Although there are not any lines given to the main character, it manages to deliver an image that its producers want audience to perceive.

Walking alone, slow footsteps, looking disoriented, and close-up view of a jealous face towards kissing couple on the escalator, strong impression of a lonely lady is built. When the guy on the train starts to speak, curiosity on her face appears, for there is something new to listen to. She begins to smile with shyness after the guy addresses his intention of looking for true love to all single ladies, and her eyes are lighten with hope. Eventually, she gets off the train at next stop in order to respond to the guy's request, expecting an upcoming good relationship, but it turns out to be just a sketch. Her face turns grey, filled with desperation, from which we can see a huge change will happen to this woman. This also proves that this lady might have been single for long time, suffering frustration and depression from bad experiences of previous relationships, and also she is naive that she easily believe words of strangers, which strengthens her image of loneliness shown from beginning.

Film ends here, but apparently audience will continue to wonder what will be going on next in her life. As what is stated above, this short film succeed in building a vivid character who has "a life lived off screen", a worth-learning point of filmmaking.

Importance of facial expression
b-6633421 February 2019
In this film, two people are the main characters. The story takes place in a train with the man's speech and the woman's reaction. The man looks suspicious at first, and other people laugh at his speech. In contrast, the woman takes it seriously. At this point, her facial expression shows her change of mind. In this film, she does not speak. Instead of that, her face is often focused on expressing how she thinks about the man's words. The angle of each character is interesting. While the man is speaking, the camera shoot not only the man but also other people as it shows that the man is speaking to everyone in the train. On the other hand, the woman is on screen only with her eyes straight at the man to show how serious she listens to him.

Who would love her
ohkf16 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
J'attendrial le suivant (I'll Wait for the Next One...) is a French short film made in 2002, directed by Philippe Orreindy. This film was nominated for the Best short film at 75th Academy Awards. Most of the story takes part in the crowded train. A woman sees a man giving a speech to the crowd. He is an entertainer, and his speech is convincing, but she believes what he is saying, and she thinks that he must be the one who will get together with her.

This film contains dialogue, but only the entertainers speak, and the explanations of the woman are done without dialogue. The audience understand at the first part that this woman is interested in having a relationship with someone else, and her face while listening to the entertainers explains that she is single and expects love and romance. In this film, the platform indicates her real life, and the train indicates her view of ideal love.

People should watch this film because it contains a surprising ending, but it is not a happy ending, so some people might be offended.

Predictable, but not so much

Warning: Spoilers
This 4 minute short film about this 4 minutes in the life of a woman who enters a train in a normal day has all its potential in its last 30 seconds. I'm not sure if it can be called a plot twist, but it is for sure supposed to be a big, unexpected surprise for those who are watching. During the film I came to imagine that would happen, and then I found myself hoping I was wrong - but I wasn't. For having interfered on my feelings towards the main character and what could possibly happen to her, I consider this a good short film. The end, although not having surprised me, made me sad for the character.

Fateful moment in the train...?!
maoenjoyhappy23 July 2017
A lonely woman who greatly longs for true love meets a stranger at the metro in Paris. He asks single women in the metro who has the same way of thinking of love for getting off at the next station. Then…what becomes of her love, getting off or not?

Even though the film is about 4 minutes long, this leaves us emotion sympathized with her. Interestingly, the single lady is a main character, not the man who tries to attract the single women in the train. However, she mentions none of the words, which means her feelings are expressed visually. In particular, at the beginning of the film, she bears watching a couple on the escalator. This shows us that she seeks for love. The technique is highly respected.

The ending of this film is beyond expectation and makes audience feel to follow the story more.

Second-hand embarrassment served
Gospel9722 June 2018
A lonely woman goes on about her life until one day, the ride on her usual train takes an unexpected turn, changing her life in the mere span of a few minutes.

It's a well-crafted short, from start to finish. The actress does a magnificient job showing the sad, lonely side of the character, which makes the audience take a liking on her earlier in the short. There's humour in it too, and the cadence of the dialogue makes the audience follow the slow but steady flow of the plot.

The simplicity and familiarity of the setting (coming home from work, getting on the train to share your personal space with strangers for as long as the ride lasts) adds to showing how easily events in the short could happen in real life. How humans can be cruel without meaning to, and how they can also be very naive when hope is an option.

The naiveness of the woman, her hope to finally stop feeling lonely, is what gives this short that special touch.

good facial expression and dialogue
risa_gu19 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This is a short film released in 2002. One man calls out that he is looking for a marriage partner in the subway. The main character is attracted by his passionate words. The man tells passengers to get off the train at the next station if anyone is interested in him, and the woman gets off, but... The interesting point of this film is that the man has dialogue, but the main woman character is not given any lines. The men talk a lot, but audiences do not know what they are planning until the end, but we can know what the woman is feeling without dialogue. I think that the point of this film is the richness of the woman's facial expression. At first, she looks suspicious with a serious face, but gradually her expression becomes more and more expressive. When she gets off the train, she has a big smile on her face. This is the best representation of her changing emotions.

Good acting and an interesting story line
sumomo11299 January 2024
"I'll Wait For The Next One" seems like a comedy, but some people may feel sad after watching this short film. The main character is always looking for a special someone. This can be seen from the scene where she envies a couple she saw at the station. Then, she is on the train and she encounters a man who is looking for a lover just like her. The ending of this short film is very funny and well done. But at the same time, you may feel sorry for her. And although this film has dialogue, the woman who is the main character does not speak a single word. You can read everything about her feelings from her facial expressions and actions. This film has very good acting and an interesting story line. You may enjoy this film and it is really worth seeing.

Cruel Fate
yu-ka23 December 2021
I'll Wait For The Next One is a short love comedy movie made in 2002. It is a story of a single woman who meets a man on the Paris metro. The man speaks about his view of love on the train and appeals to passengers that he is looking for a girlfriend. Most people scoff at his behavior, but the woman starts to be attracted to him and decides to get off the train with him. However, the story has an unexpected cruel ending. Even though the woman never speaks a word in this film, I think it is a wonderful composition that makes the viewer imagine her feeling and background just by the way she looks at the man and her facial expression. Especially, I think the woman's look of mixed sadness and anger at that end is very impressive and good. This movie will make you feel a variety of emotions, so some people may feel unpleasant. However, I would recommend it for people who want to understand the difficulty of finding true love.

When a lonely woman gets on a train
saoatama30 June 2018
When a lonely woman gets on a train, then a man makes a speech for passangers that he wants a romance, and she must decide wheter just ignore this funny strange man, or candidate for his girl friend...? The woman must be very pure; she doesn't laugh his extraordinary speech. But the better person you are, the harder you live in real world. She looks not happy. She gets jealous to others because she is not satisfied with her life: She has no boy friend, maybe no best friends, and is tired of simple pattern which just goes to her office and goes home every day. The movie is set on only a station and a train. But I can see her miserable life through her tired face and attitude. The true tragedy is not this movie but her life. And actually it can happen to every single person. After watching it, I remember Japanese author, Ango Sakaguchi's words; The love is the flower in your life. And there are not other flowers. Love is essential for life, but I don't know where to find it. Maybe the woman neither. So, I cannot stop sympathizing with her.

Maybe he is the one she has been waiting for?
faiij11 July 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This short film is a comedy film about a guy who starts doing an announcement saying that he is finding someone to date with. So, he hopes to get off at the next station with the one who find him interesting. This film is mostly a monologue from the main male character talking about his lifestyle and his interests in finding someone to date with. His speech is really cute and makes me want to support him. I, personally, really love the way the girl looks at the boy. Also, her facial expression can express her feeling really well. I can see that the girl is really interested in the boy and wants to get to know him more. It just looks so lovely like an ordinary romantic film. the tone of this movie in the beginning tend to be a romantic film. An announcement from the guy saying that he is finding someone to date with is really a dreamlike romantic plot. However, the ending of this film is really surprising and unexpected. It turns the tone of this short film to a comedy (or bad joke?) film instead of romantic film.

Amazing!
g-59652-3557214 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This short video is about a guy in Paris, who suddenly jump on the metro and tell everyone he wants to find a real girlfriend, establish a real connection with a girl and have a relationship. If any lady on the metro who share the same point of view towards life, please stop at the next station, and he wants to get to know her. And at the spot there is a lady who is also there believe what he says and totally sympasize what he say and also is still single, so she goes down at the next stop happily and hopefully. However, it turns out that guy is just acting for a story. And the short video ends here. The writer plots very well, we are drawn to the lady's eye, and shared the same feelings with her by feeling happy for her at the moment she thought she found her true love. It also felt so awkward and awful with her when she discovered the truth. And I thought that the main character was the guy, however, until the end, I suddenly surprised and realized that film maker is writing a story about her not him. It's incredible that the writer talked about her story without making her the main character and without making her speak a word.

Cinderella Complex
rosechocoberry11 July 2018
Warning: Spoilers
***This review may contain spoilers*** This short film is showing the reality of women (or men) suffering from so-called "Cinderella complex". The main character is a normal single woman, waiting for true love to come, but not trying anything for it. She is wishing, dreaming, and waiting for her "Prince Charming" to save her from the loneliness. I think most people have ever felt this kind of loneliness. At the end, it reveals that there is no destiny in relationship. This is quite sad ending for the main character, and for the people who was feeling sympathy with her. Those heartbreaking reality is very realistic and relatable for most of us. The theme of the seeking destiny and being deceived by reality reminded me of the line from my favorite film 500 Days of Summer, "There's no such a thing as love, it's fantasy." I think the woman says the same line when she sees off the train leaving. However, as just a girl still dreaming of true love, I hope she will find someone who loves her. Getting on a train is a metaphor of getting into relationship in this film, so I hope she will catch the right train at the right time. Maybe she will find the one on the next train. Because after the breakup, the next one tends to look better for the brokenhearted.

Few dialogue, rich expression
wknapriv12 January 2024
"I'll Wait for the Next One" is a comedy about a lonely woman getting on the train. The woman is old enough to have a spouse, but she is lonely. However, she encounters an event in the train. One man suddenly starts to make a speech in front of the passengers about looking for the woman who would be his partner. The screen is quite simple as the event happens while she is on the train. The reason we can enjoy it is that the woman's facial expression is rich. Her face is not only charming, it changes clearly. We can see how she feels at the time by her facial expression. This is one of the reasons I highly recommend this movie. Moreover, it is amazing that we can enjoy this film even though the woman does not speak - only the two men have dialogue. Therefore, I recommend this film as the woman's facial changes makes us curious about what happens next.

Reality is not going to work that easily
ryuryukl3 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I think this short film is describing one's emotional movement well in terms of love. In the film, it is apparent that the lady is not doing well in her relationship with men in everyday life. Here, considering that "Love" is not something that always makes people happy, it can sometimes hurt or depress people, we can easily imagine what the lady in the film is thinking when she passes a couple at the escalator. In such a moment, we are usually in a situation close to losing our cool and might not be able to cope with things surrounding us appropriately. It is for this reason that she is moved by words of a man in the train so easily and believes him without any doubts. However, as we know, the reality is different and the cruel ending conveys a strong message towards us, which everyone probably can sympathize with. Therefore, this short film is worth watching for those who are in trouble with love and losing the proper ability to judge something.

Not feel good...
yuu-8241228 October 2023
'I'll wait for the next one...' (J'attendrai le suivant...) is a story about love. This movie was made in 2002. In this story, a woman gets sad when she passes a couple. With a sad expression, she gets on a subway train in Paris. There are many people on the train, who have different kinds of circumstances. Some are young couples, others are elderly couples. By looking at them, she gets deeply depressed because she is single.

Suddenly a man gets onto the train and gives a monologue to passengers around him including the woman. In his talk, he says that he is looking for a woman who can sympathize with his views on marriage. Also, he asks them to get off at the next station if they can be with him. Hearing that, the woman decides to do that. However, the man doesn't get off at the next station. I suppose this shows his lack of sincerity in dealing with the woman. In my opinion, I feel uncomfortable and think some viewers may regret watching this.
