With this year’s French Open recently concluding, it’s the opportune time to watch one of cinema’s greatest sports documentaries. Capturing the annual tennis event 40 years ago, Muhammed Ali, the Greatest director William Klein’s The Open takes an intimate look at the 1981 French Open with John McEnroe, Chris Evert, Yannick Noah, Arthur Ashe, Martina Navratilova, and Björn Borg. Set to open virtually at Metrograph starting this Friday, we’re pleased to present the exclusive trailer.
As the official synopsis reads, “In 1981, Klein and three camera crews were given exclusive, unprecedented access to the tournament for the first time in its 90-year history, and using that doorway into locker rooms, TV studios, and players’ boxes, he shot the ultimate behind-the-scenes look at the 1981 French Open. With Klein’s customary eagle eye and whirlwind energy, The French showcases the noisy bedlam that accompanies any major sporting event, while also...

The third game in the Ping Pong Trick Shot series (the two previous entries appeared on the 3Ds), Super Ping Pong Trick Shot is essentially, for want of a better word, one of the first true examples of shovelware on the Nintendo Switch. Fun and addictive shovelware, but shovelware nonetheless.
The aim of the game is ridiculously simple. Throw a ball and get it in a cup. That’s the rule of beer pong, and those are the rules here – though there’s no beer in sight in this game, rather multiple glasses and multiple ways to get the ball in place… Taking the physics of the likes of popular mobile game Angry Birds and adding more of a puzzle element Super Ping Pong Trick Shot may not look like anything special but dig into it and you’ll find a game that becomes increasingly addictive the more you play...

Edward lost a leg in the initial experiment and Alphonse was lost entirely, with Edward forced to exchange his arm in return for at least restoring Alphonse's disembodied soul. Now years later the brothers have become among the most powerful alchemists in the land, Edward's missing limbs replaced by complex...

TV shows usually aren’t able to turn a discussion of two seasons of television into a thoroughly enjoyable low-key cabaret night. But that’s precisely what the cast and crew of “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” did on Wednesday at the Television Academy in North Hollywood.
Gathering in front of TV Academy voters for their 2017 For Your Consideration event, the “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” cast performed eight songs from the show’s sophomore season, weaving in a discussion of the various challenges that the latest run of episodes provided for the whole team. In a surprise move (that, in retrospect, is the only way that one of these things should start), writer/co-creator/star Rachel Bloom introduced the evening’s participants via a re-worked version of the show’s song “I Have Friends.”
Though the audience had trouble getting the song’s distinct clapping rhythm in unison, stars Vincent Rodriguez III (Josh Chan), Donna Lynne Champlin...

There’s a Pizzagate protest by the White House today, and it’s included a family in matching pizza shirts, a speaker in a propeller hat and an “All Children Matter” sign, as a devoted group of core believers insist on pursuing an investigation into a debunked conspiracy theory. Pizzagate is the unofficial name for a series of fictitious internet news stories that implicated the Comet Ping Pong restaurant in Washington, D.C., and its owner in a child sex operation. The “reports” started before Election Day and accused Hillary Clinton and her campaign chairman John Podesta of kidnapping, molesting and trafficking children in the.

Hillary Clinton took a little over 30 minutes to dish out a diss at Michael T. Flynn after his resignation Monday, but it was still pretty hot. At least if you remember the details of the bizarre fake news story known as Pizzagate. Clinton celebrated Flynn’s embarrassing exit as President Trump’s national security adviser by reminding him of the time his son accused her of running a child sex ring out of a Washington, D.C., pizza shop. Pizzagate culminated in a man entering the pizzeria — Comet Ping Pong — and firing a gun. He reportedly told police he wanted to personally investigate online claims.

In terms of plot, the “Legion” premiere isn’t hard to summarize. David Haller (Dan Stevens) is committed to a mental institution after trying to kill himself. There, he falls in love with Syd Barrett (Rachel Keller), a woman who believes David’s “sickness” is what makes him special. But David might not actually be sick. He may have telekinetic and telepathic powers, and when Syd is allowed to leave and he isn’t, David uses those powers to get back to her.
Of course, the presentation of the plot — the story driving “Legion” — is much more complex. David is a damaged, untrusting young man seeking a connection to reality that his mind refuses to provide. Syd represents that connection and may be looking for a forbidden connection herself. The couple, joined by a group of similarly alienated individuals, rebel against their oppressors to find happiness within and among themselves…...

As Edgar M. Welch told the New York Times on Wednesday from jail, “I regret how I handled the situation.”
But he wouldn’t dismiss the theories that motivated him.

CNN’s Chris Cuomo described the #PizzaGate gunman as “either mentally ill or really stupid” after fake news inspired the man to show up at a Washington D.C. restaurant with an assault rifle. “Either way, that’s just not somebody you’re going to reach with simple fact and truth,” the “New Day” host said Monday. A North Carolina man allegedly drove to Washington D.C. and walked into the Comet Ping Pong restaurant with an assault rifle, motivated by an extremely unbelievable piece of fake news. The false story spread last month said that Clinton and her campaign...

A North Carolina man who allegedly opened fire on a Washington, D.C., pizzeria on Sunday told police he took to the restaurant with an assault rifle to “self-investigate” Pizzagate — a fake news story about Hillary Clinton that has made its rounds on the Internet in recent months — authorities say.
Edgar Maddison Welch, 28, of Salisbury, North Carolina, was arrested and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon after allegedly opening fire on Comet Ping Pong — the northwest Washington pizza shop at the center of a baseless online conspiracy theory involving Clinton and owner James Alefantis, according to D.C. Metro Police.

The beloved manga series “Fullmetal Alchemist” has had quite a life beyond the pages. Though the original series ran from 2001 through 2010, it has produced two anime series — “Fullmetal Alchemist,” the loose adaptation, and “Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood,” a more faithful retelling — a series of light novels, an audio drama, five video games and soon, a live-action adaptation, featuring an all-Japanese cast.

The first teaser trailer for the upcoming live-action feature film adaptation of Hiromu Arakawa’s manga and anime Full Metal Alchemist has been released. The trailer shows off a series of brief but great looking and exciting clips, and we get to see Ryōsuke Yamada in full costume as the alchemist Edward Elric, as well as his little brother Al, who is a CG animated character.
In an alchemical ritual gone wrong, Edward Elric lost his arm and his leg, and his brother Alphonse became nothing but a soul in a suit of armor. Equipped with mechanical “auto-mail” limbs, Edward becomes a state alchemist, seeking the one thing that can restore his and his brother's bodies...the legendary Philosopher's Stone.
When talking about this film adaptation and its faithfulness to the original source material, director Fumihiko Sori (Ping Pong) said:
"I want to create a style that follows the original manga as much as possible.

Santa’s elves should brace themselves — cats may be meowing “Tanks!” this Christmas.
We’re predicting a spike in requests for feline sport utility vehicles now that Ivan Veryasov, a Russian engineer, showed off his creation on Saturday: a kitty playhouse that resembles a T-34 Tank.
According to Rt.com, Veryasov, from Novosibirsk, Siberia, told Sib FM that he “modeled my tank on the famous T-34. I only failed at assembling a gun that would shoot tennis balls.” (For the record, we don’t think tennis balls would have gone over well with cats anyway. Ping Pong balls, maybe.)

Armin van Buuren has announced this week that he will be releasing a new mini-album titled Old Skool that will recreate classic dance hits with a modern spin. The project was announced on his A State Of Trance radio show, and will follow up his most recent studio album Embrace from last year.
The first taste of the upcoming mini-album comes in the form of the 1991 rave classic “Dominator” by Human Resource. A video clip has surfaced to detail the behind the scenes creation of Avb’s re-imagining of the classic dance hit, revealing that the Dutch producer got permission from the track’s creators before deciding to release it. His version gives “Dominator” an updated production with modern sound design while still retaining the vintage rave vibes.
Armin van Buuren has also updated a number of other classic releases for Old Skool, including Speedy J’s “Pull Over” and Quadrophonia’s self-titled anthem.

For those of you who are fans of Hiromu Arakawa's action-fantasy manga Fullmetal Alchemist, you might be surprised to learn that there’s a live action movie currently in development! According to Crunchy Roll, this movie will be released in 2017.
Fumihiko Sori (Ping Pong, Ashita no Joe) is directing the film, and it will star Hey! Say! Jump member Ryosuke Yamada (Assassination Classroom) as Edward Elric.
The project will start shooting in Italy in June and will be in production through August of 2016. According to the report, the film will heavily use CGI to "recreate the fantastic elements of the comic, such as Alphonse Elric's armor.”
This news was completely unexpected, but since it was such a popular manga and anime, it was bound to happen one day after the series ended in 2010. I’m surprised it took them so long to do it! I can’t wait to see how it turns out!

(...and no Jamiroquai in sight...) The Japanese writer-director Kudô Kankurô has his heart in a quirky place, and has proven that already several times over. As a scriptwriter he wrote Zebraman for director Miike Takashi, The Apology King for director Mizuta Nobuo, and adapted Matsumoto Taiyō's famous manga Ping Pong into a live-action script for director Sori Fumihiko. As a director, he made Yaji and Kita - The Midnight Pilgrims and The Shonen Merikensack (also known as Brass Knuckle Boys). These are all great, zany films for sure, and very silly in places. But they are also somewhat more intelligently put together than you'd expect at first, and often contain moments of true poignancy. Enter his newest film Too Young to Die!, which had its...

(Expect a back-and-forth between me and everyone who claims the film is better...) Last month in the Us, Funimation released the DVD and Blu-ray editions of Ping Pong, the anime. And, as I have rather strong feelings about this one, here is a review! Ever since I've seen Mind-Game and Kaiba, I've been a raving fan of Yuasa Masaaki. The Japanese animator creates art which defies the standard descriptions of anime, and everything he touches becomes special by default. When I heard he was going to do an animated adaptation of Matsumoto Taiyô's manga Ping Pong, it still caught me off-guard. For starters, that story had already been adapted successfully once, as Sori Fumihiko's 2002 live-action film of the same name. That version was both...

When Barry Allen was first introduced on Arrow and it was revealed the character would be spun-off into his own series, one of the first questions on everyone’s lips was whether Felicity would be crossing over from time to time. Maybe it shouldn’t have been, but such is the popularity of that character. This episode, Going Rogue, was the moment in which that wish came to fruition, a full three hours into the new series.
It was a good episode to get still-unconverted Arrow fans on board for The Flash, and it was also a nice, tidy way for the writers to wrap up the unfinished Barry/Felicity relationship. Above everything, though, it was just so darn nice having her there, and she fit into...
