more interesting than MIB ADR

This 8 minute featurette on the visual and special effects of "Men in Black 2" can be found on the second disc of the 2-DVD special edition of the aforementioned movie. Say what you want about the "men in black" films (god knows that I have a few choice words about them, mainly expletives), but they DO look pretty damn nice and the special effects are pretty cool (they should be with the price tag on the budget of this movie) Those involved took about how they figure out what to put on the screen and the reasons behind that. This featurette was more interesting then the previous MIB ADR one I just saw.

My Grade: C-

Literally, it became a toilet bowl

Warning: Spoilers
This consists of interviews with the cast and crew, all of whom have something compelling to add within their area of expertise(and there is a very clear love of what they're working on), clips from the movie, behind-the-scenes footage, and incomplete effects shots.

It's 9 minutes long. This is found on the double disc DVD of Men in Black II. It spoils a lot of the film, and so will this review, so that I can go into more detail.

They talk about the substantial extent of the job of the production designer. That it's funnier if the headquarters is full of corporations. The logic behind the various sets. Pondering if the people working in the shops and such in the terminal are extra-terrestrial, or just "normal-". Bo's very proud of the Worm Guys' bachelor pad. The guns getting increasingly large over the course of the film. Everyone gets the same stuff as each other, except Smith, the renegade, gets slightly cooler versions.

I recommend this to any fan of the property. 8/10

Quite interesting

The visual feel of the sets and the equipment within MIIB is discussed with the production manager as to how he came up with the feel for the film.

Of all the many features on the MIIB DVD this was quite interesting because it is about the bits of the film that you don't really see as you watch. Well, you SEE it but you don't really take it in. Where Rick Baker's aliens will draw your eye to them, the sets etc will often just have a feel to them.

This discussed the thought process behind everything from the worm's bachelor pad through to even the choice for Agent J's car. It is interesting as it is easy to forget how much work goes into making this stuff and designing it over and over. There isn't anything earth shattering here but it is interesting to see how it all came together.

Whatever else you think about the MIB films, they do have a bit good look about them and the set design is part of setting the tone for the film as comic and sort of cool throwback. The only thing that this short lacked was a reference back to the comic book - surely this must have had some input to the design process and the feel of the film?
