A nice but out of date and incomplete behind the scenes look at Nick Park and Aardman
planktonrules14 August 2009
Being a big fan of Wallace & Gromit, it's not surprising that I'd watch this short film about the series. It's a nice behind the scenes look at the evolution of the films as well as a chance to see Nick Park--who sounds an awful lot like Wallace, if you ask me.

There are two problems, however, with the film. First, soon after the short was made, it was already out of date. By the time I'd seen it, CHICKEN RUN, WALLACE & GROMIT AND THE CURSE OF THE WERE-RABBIT and the "Shaun the Sheep" series had all come and gone. These are huge projects and greatly expanded the reputation and skills of the folks at Aardman. And, talking about Wallace & Gromit without the newer projects is like ending Cinderella when she goes to the ball--there is just so much more to the story that you want to see and learn more of but unfortunately it isn't there! Second, at only 15 minutes in length, this still is way too short a time length to discuss such wonderful characters and their creation. Seeing the voice actors, showing the sets and getting more interesting background information really would have been appreciated and was sorely lacking.

a must see. you must see wallace and gromit at least 10 times in a life time. a lot of work, talent, patient, amusement and fun. you don t have to be a child to be amused by those two characters. you will love them. and when you will see behind the scene you will understand what i mean.

Warning: Spoilers
"The Amazing World of Wallace and Gromit" is a 15-minute short film from 1999, so this one is already almost 20 years old now and it was written and directed by David Hutt. This film summarizes the Aardman and Nick Park success story up until that point, which of course means that, with everything happening in recent years, it is very dated now, but you cannot really blame Hutt, Park or the people working on it for that. I found it still a solid watch. Some interesting interviews are included as well as a little Oscar summary and also parts about how Wallace and Gromit sound all around the world and for me it was obviously not too unusual to hear their German voices that fit the characters nicely too. Or I should maybe say "the character" because it is just one of them talking of course. So yeah, if you like this duo that can almost be called a national treasure from Britain now, and in this case, it is very true, then you can certainly go for the watch here. I am generally not the biggest Aardman fan, not the biggestg claymation fan, but these two I always liked somehow. But how can you not? I give this little summary a thumbs-up. Also nice to have a bit of retro with the new Aardman film hitting cinemas soon. Watch it.
