There was little mystery at the top of Friday’s ratings demos. As per usual, ABC’s Shark Tank topped the night, bringing in an 0.7. It was also a strong night for perennial Friday favorite WWE Friday Night SmackDown on Fox, which had an 0.6 in demos.
But the real intrigue concerned the reaction to the announcement that CBS’s MacGyver would conclude by the end of the month. Would loyal fans make an effort to show up? Would new and curious randoms bolster the program?
The answer is a little of both. While MacGyver’s demo slipped a bit to an 0.4, its overall audience was up by more than four percent to 4.52 million, perhaps indicating that older fans are stopping by for one last look at the reboot.
The trailing crime dramas on CBS, Magnum P.I. and Blue Bloods, both scored an 0.5 and grew the audience, with Blue Bloods...

Another week, another Friday night ratings demo win for ABC’s Shark Tank. The business entrepreneur reality series took home the crown yet again, scoring an 0.6, down a tenth from last week but still enough to take top honors.
Sharks Mark Cuban, Kevin O’Leary, Lori Greiner, Barbara Corcoran and guest Shark Kendra Scott heard funding pitches for comfortable high heels, food storage, women’s bathing suit issues, and a special sauce company.
The show held an audience for newsmag 20/20, which offered an exclusive interview with just-released murderer Margaret Rudin, who killed her millionaire husband. The show clocked in at an 0.5 to win its perpetual war with NBC’s Dateline.
Fox’s WWE Friday Night SmackDown offered a preview for the annual Elimination Chamber pay-per-view event on Sunday. Friday’s show featured the six participants in Sunday’s Elimination Chamber match on the SmackDown side. It was enough for an 0.5 on the evening score sheet.

It was easy as ABC in the Friday night ratings wars, as the Alphabet network was the big winner in demos on the evening.
The Shark Tank team once again were kings of the Friday night demo ratings, coming in with an 0.7 to edge out Fox’s WWE Friday Night SmackDown, which came in with an 0.6.
Sharks Mark Cuban, Kevin O’Leary, Lori Greiner, Barbara Corcoran and guest Shark Alex Rodriguez heard pitches from several Los Angeles entrepreneurs, including a team offering a new path on condiments, a multicultural artisan design team, and some champagne purveyors.
That provided a strong lead-in to ABC’s 20/20, which took yet another look at the Jon Benet Ramsey murder. That brought home another 0.7.
At CBS, the crime drama lineup saw new episodes of MacGyver (0.5) and Magnum P.I. (O.5), the latter drawing the night’s largest total audience. CBS ended the night with a Blue Bloods repeat.

Alicia Vikander‘s next role is one familiar to her: The actress will play a movie star in the HBO limited series Irma Vep.
The drama — written and directed by Olivier Assayas and executive-produced by Vikander — follows Mira (Vikander), who, disillusioned by her career (and a recent breakup), comes to France to star as “Irma Vep” in a remake of the French silent film classic Les Vampires. Mira in turn struggles as the distinctions between herself and the character she plays begin to blur. The series is loosely based on Assayas’ 1996 feature film of the same name.
