Masterpiece of reform advocate and introspection
zzmale16 February 2004
The literal translation of the title of this movie is: The Empty Chair of the General Manager's Office.

The movie made in the early era of the reform in China is a masterpiece in that it advocate reform by criticizing the old way: political loyalty is the most important consideration for promotion, and that means follows the orders without any questions, and the actual skills and abilities needed for the job is ignored.

By criticizing this old practice of the Cultural Revolution era, the movie advocates the urgently needed reform.
