At this point of the year, month and week, it had better be looking a lot like Christmas.
With the much-anticipated holiday upon us, television is doing its part, presenting attractions that reflect the spirit of the season in a variety of ways ... some funny, some serious and some simply built for all-out yuletide fun. Here's a roundup of much of what's still left for viewers on the virtual Christmas tree otherwise known as a TV screen.
ABC: This year's "Cma Country Christmas" special, with Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland back as host for the third consecutive year, gets a repeat Sunday, Dec. 23 -- and later that day, the Julie Andrews-starring holiday-season perennial "The Sound of Music" also returns. Monday, Dec. 24, sees repeats of the animated specials "Disney's Prep & Landing" and "Shrek the Halls." And Christmas itself is packed with TV tradition Tuesday, Dec. 25; the morning is marked by the Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade,...

Julie Andrews has no designs on replacing Santa Claus as a symbol of the holiday season, but she's giving him a good race anyway.
That's reaffirmed by the veteran talent's current television appearances. This weekend alone, she'll be present vocally in "Shrek 2" on MoreMax (Friday, Nov. 30) and "Shrek Forever After" on FX (Saturday, Dec. 1), and she'll be both seen and heard in "Eloise at Christmastime" on Hallmark Channel (Sunday, Dec. 2).
And that's hardly all: ABC Family ran Andrews' Oscar-winning performance in Disney's "Mary Poppins" over Thanksgiving weekend, and the channel also will feature her voice in the animated "Despicable Me" (Saturday, Dec. 8) and her presence in the two "Princess Diaries" movies (Friday, Dec. 28). And ABC again airs her much-beloved work in "The Sound of Music" Sunday, Dec. 23.
"I'm sort of pasted all over the place," Andrews tells Zap2it with a hearty laugh. "I must say, the mailbox does...

Jeffrey Tambor and Christine Baranski will share the screen again in another adaptation of classic children's books -- the ABC telefilms Eloise at the Plaza and Eloise at Christmastime, based on Kay Thompson's famous tales. The two, who co-starred in the 2000 blockbuster Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas, are set to join Julie Andrews, who was previously cast to play Eloise's British nanny in the films that star newcomer Sofia Vassilieva as the mischievous 6-year-old who lives in New York's Plaza Hotel (HR 10/8). Kevin Lima is directing. In both movies, Tambor will play Plaza Hotel manager Mr. Salomone, an absolute perfectionist who hilariously clashes with Eloise's rampaging style. Baranski will play Helga, the event planner at the Plaza. While she will have a small appearance in Eloise at the Plaza, Helga will take central stage in Eloise at Christmastime, preparing for a high-society wedding Eloise is determined to disrupt.

Oscar, Golden Globe and Emmy-winning actress Julie Andrews has signed to star in the ABC telefilms Eloise at the Plaza and Eloise at Christmastime, the first screen adaptations of Kay Thompson's classic children's books, which are illustrated by Hilary Knight. Kevin Lima (102 Dalmatians) has come aboard to direct both films about the mischievous 6-year-old who lived at New York's Plaza Hotel. Andrews will play Nanny, the British guardian to Eloise. Nine-year-old newcomer Sofia Vassilieva (The Brady Bunch in the White House) has been cast in the title role in the films, which will be shot back-to-back starting next month in Toronto and New York.
