The commander wears the ribbon of the Police Exemplary Service Medal on her uniform. She states that she has served for 20 years. Before 2016 the qualifying period for the medal was 22 years, so she is not entitled.
The action takes place in 2002. In that year police officers (amongst others) with at least 5 years' service were awarded the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal, and she does not wear that ribbon, to which she is entitled.
