Karnataka have last won the Santosh Trophy in 1968-69 and this is the first time they have reached the final in nearly five decades.
Meghalaya are in their maiden final. Having never made it to the semifinals previously, the state from the NorthEast has exceeded expectations by coming so far.
So, expect the unexpected in the first final on foreign soil for the National Football Championship for Santosh Trophy.
Both teams have come up with some great performances in the tournament so far as they have overcome some tricky hurdles to make it to the summit clash of the prestigious tournament.
While Meghalaya have depended on the mystical flair and attacking style of the NorthEastern side to overcome strong opponents like 32-time champions West Bengal, neighbours Manipur and a strong Railways side in the process.

Punjab is the favourite after defending champions Kerala, Goa and 32-time winner West Bengal failed to make it to the knockout rounds. But Meghalaya have punched above their weight and surprised many by topping Group V in the preliminary round ahead of Odisha and then finishing second behind Services in the Final Round to make it to the last-four stage.
Punjab have the pedigree — they have won the Santosh Trophy eight times and have also finished runner-up on as many occasions. Their last title came in 2007-08 while Meghalaya have made their maiden entry into the semifinals. They have always lived in the shadows of neighbours Manipur and Mizoram while the talents from Sikkam have made it big at the national stage.
The National Football Championships has returned to action for the second year in a row after two editions in 2019-20 and 2020-21 were not held due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The last time we saw them together on screen it was for Manoj Kumar’s Santosh in 1989. Now Shatrughan Sinha and Hema Malini are back together on Dus Ka Dum, apparently on Shatru’s insistence.
Salman Khan’s very popular game show Dus Ka Dum has bonus guests. In an additional episode that was shot on Sunday (August 30) Salman brought two of his favorite people Shatrughan Sinha and Hema Malini, both Bjp workers, together for what turned out to be quite a show of strength.
Shatru dressed in a long- flowing Sherwani was playfully asked by Salman, if this was the Nehru code.

Yes, the winner of the top award 'The German Star Of India' award at Stuttgart Film Festival was Santosh Sivan's film Tahaan about the adventures of a little boy and his pet donkey in militant Kashmir. Kunal Kohli who was the only Indian jury member at the awards said, "There were other top contenders like Neeraj Pandey's A Wednesday, Piyush Jha's Sikandar, Nishikant Kamat's Mumbai Meri Jaan, Umkanth Thumrugoti's 7 Days In Slow Motion , and Gabricha Paus' The Damned Rain. All the jury members loved the innocence of Tahaan. It reminded all them of Robert Benigni's Life Is Beautiful.
