The TRIO cable channel recently re-ran this 2002 series hosted and produced by Phil Ramone. Each episode brings together directors, composers, and performers to talk about the world of film music. It's relaxed, funny, insightful...a joy to lovers of film music. My personal favorite is the episode featuring my musical hero Dave Grusin, with director Sydney Pollack, songwriters Marilyn and Alan Bergman, and even Stephen Bishop showing up to sing the theme from TOOTSIE. Ramone lets Grusin play a LOT of piano, including the theme from ON GOLDEN POND, a blues number from THE FIRM, and THE HEART IS A LONELY HUNTER. James Newton Howard's episode taking us on a tour of his MIDI studio was also a high point. Actually, it's all good. Don't miss this if it comes around again.
