Today the Aspca (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) and pop superstar Sia released a special PSA video to raise awareness about dog adoption this holiday season.
Video: Sia x Aspca - Puppies Are Forever PSA
The clip, starring Maddie Ziegler and a canine companion named Frank, is set to the track, “Puppies are Forever” from Sia’s new holiday album, “Everyday is Christmas.” It serves as a reminder that bringing a puppy into your home is a lifelong commitment and encourages viewers to consider adopting a dog from a local shelter or rescue group instead of purchasing from a pet store. Most pet store puppies come from puppy mills, where they are housed in overcrowded and unsanitary conditions without adequate veterinary care, food, water and socialization.

Children who have suffered physical, mental and sexual abuse in Orange County, California, have found strength to testify against their accusers through the help of a Siberian husky named Patriot who also knows the pain of torment and neglect.
As soon as kids see the scars that wind around the four-year-old canine’s muzzle, “they know that he’s been through a lot, just like they have,” says Kevin Marlin, 47, who adopted Patriot after the dog was rescued by the Orange County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Ocspca) when he was a pup.

A two-legged dog beloved by thousands on Instagram and YouTube for his determination and happy spirit, has beaten the odds again — this time while on a Yellowstone National Park vacation with his adoptive family.
Duncan Lou Who (named after Cindy Lou Who in How the Grinch Stole Christmas), a four-year-old boxer, was born with his rear legs fused together and a severely deformed pelvis, but he hasn’t let these differences slow him down.
His owners, Amanda Giese and Gary Walters, founders of Panda Paws Rescue, a pet adoption service in Vancouver, Washington, had just started their vacation in Yellowstone on the evening of Aug.

Shelter dogs and cats at the Humane Society of Missouri were treated to a Dr. Seuss story time this week, as patient pups listened on as children involved in the Shelter Buddies Reading Program read aloud their favorite Seuss stories, Cat in the Hat included.
The Shelter Buddies Reading Program is a win-win for everyone involved: The adoptable animals are exposed to positive social experiences that will help them be more relaxed when prospective pet parents come by their cages, while the children get a chance to...

Far into the Indian state of Karnataka lies a hidden oasis for the the country’s unwanted dogs. Its leader is Rakesh Shukla, a software engineer who created this three and a half acre sanctuary, which now houses over 735 dogs.
The canine residents cover all breeds and backgrounds. Some are pedigree dogs abandoned by tragic circumstances, others are mixed breed pups who spent their entire lives on the street until now.
“I’m the last stop for these dogs. They are no longer cute and cuddly. Many are sick and no longer wanted,” said Shukla, 45, who also responds to the name Dog Father.

You’ve heard the tabloid news stories; late millionaires whose wills advise that all their worldly possessions be left to their pet. To some it may seem ridiculous, to others sensible. Regardless, the take away is the same: You can leave behind money, protection and personal possessions for your pets. What many don’t know is, you don’t have to be filthy rich to do it.
In fact, setting aside a little money and creating a plan for a beloved pet can help prevent them from being surrendered when you become too old or ill to care for them yourself any longer.

New York -- Broadway's newest Little Orphan Annie has found her Sandy.
The award-winning animal trainer William Berloni on Thursday unveiled the pooch who is slated to star in the Broadway revival of the Tony Award-winning musical "Annie" – Sunny, a 2-year-old female terrier mix rescued from a city pound in Houston.
"The most talented animals are right there under your nose," said Berloni, who makes it a point of using shelter dogs in all his projects. "The message is: Animals in shelters are not damaged, just unfortunate."
Sunny was only 24 hours away from being euthanized four months ago when Berloni spotted her photo online while conducting a nationwide search for Sandy. She had been mislabeled as male and given the name Bruno. Touched, he forwarded her photo to one of the show's producers, Arielle Tepper Madover, who wrote back, "Save her. I don't care what it costs."
