Very good touching in parts funny in others

I had read the book of this not long ago and when I heard it had been made into a TV series I had to give it a try as I enjoyed the book.

The story is about Tracy Beaker a young girl who lives in Stokesley House a.k.a 'The dumping ground' a place for children who have been put into care.

Tracy has an overactive imagination and frequently says things such as 'my mum can't look after me because she's a famous actress in Hollywood' or other stuff to make up for why her mother isn't looking after her. When she starts talking back to each other there is an unrealistic cartoon flashback of her mother the way Tracy would like to see her but then they show the flashback of what was really happening. Such as Tracy's mother reguarly leaving her at home to go out with her boyfriend showing that she was unfit in the end to take care of Tracy. In the first series you meet other generally likeable characters from the book such as Justine, Louise, Peter, Maxie etc and later Cam.

The second series however brought new characters Lol, Bouncer and Amber who were not in the book but also they are likeable with the exception of Amber who clearly we are supposed to dislike as she is a rebel, a bit of a bully and cruel towards the other kids when she's in a bad mood which is her most regular mood.

The story is very good and Tracy Beaker is a very good character. Seeing the flashbacks of her mother are quite touching and when they play the song starting with 'I can make my world come true...' slowly when something sad happens you can't help but feel sad yourself. If you have read the book I recommend watching it and if you haven't read the book I still recommend watching it you get the gist of story and characters in a short time.

Warning: Spoilers
I would watch this show religiously in my childhood and had a lot of love for it. The way Tracy would drift off into her imagination to escape her reality was how I watched this show to escape my reality.

I rewatched this as an adult and I think it's just as good as I thought it was when I was younger. The story of Tracy and Cam is an excellent one. The supporting characters are usually very likeable and entertaining to see, with their own emotional moments now and again. For example Jackie and her Grandpa, Crash and his anger problems, Justine and her Dad.

Only problem I had with this series on the rewatch was that it does go a bit downhill as it goes on. The 4th series is good but not as great as the previous 3. A lot of the characters there are likeable and seeing Tracy's post foster life is interesting. Also seeing her return to the DG even while being fostered for her friends was touching.

Series 5 is very on and off though. It feels like a mess. So many characters leave and return and there a lot of non Tracy episodes. Still enjoyed it but even the series finale doesn't feel like a great send off. I think the best way to see it is actually the first 3 series and then the movie which has an excellent ending for the story of Tracy and Cam. Although series 4 also has a pretty good ending. I just kinda disliked the series 5 ending. The music was meh. It just kinda ended like a normal episode. Nothing dramatic.

Overall this is still a show I'll never forget. It will be the reason I'll hopefully foster and adopt a child in future. I will also probably still watch the show again many times when I feel low or just want to rewatch haha.

A good programme
wobble_66287 September 2008
It's a good TV programme. It about a feisty girl named Tracy beaker who lives in a care home and has had many failed fostering attempts. She was fostered by a writer named Cam in series 4 but still came to visit her friends at the home. She used to make out that her mum was a famous Hollywood a-lister during the early series but ended up growing out of it later on.

She has some friends which include a bad tempered boy nicknamed Crash who always smashes plates and stuff when he's angry and a young girl named Jackie who likes running and sports. Her worst enemy is a girl named Justine Littlewood and the pair of them have been rivals since series 1. Before she came, Tracy was friends with a girl named Louise who became friends with Justine when she came to the care home but still stayed friends with Tracy and she sometimes would stick up for her if Justine was saying mean things to her.

Other characters include Elaine the annoying social worker, Duke, the large cook , Nathan, the trainee care worker and the Wellards, a trio of Siblings who cause misery and pain to another residents in the home.

This is a good programme, if you haven't seen it yet, I suggest you watch it. I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

A hit adaptation
studioAT5 April 2017
It went on a bit too long, but this TV series, based on the book by Jaqueline Wilson was a huge hit back in its day, and continues to be repeated today.

It's success in part is down to the central performance of Dani Harmer, who played the part so well it's probably stopped her being accepted in any other role. Though I did think she was good in 'After you've gone'.

Funny in places, touching in others, it's no surprise that this show touched the hearts of kids everywhere, and their parents too.

It did outstay it's welcome, and a couple of spin-off's were launched off the back of it, but it was good at the time.

An interesting slice of life!

Well were do i start, i must say Tracy beaker is a great show, good acting, believable story lines and a good lot of characters.

This show is basically about a 10 year old girl named Tracy beaker, she is artistic, imaginative, outgoing and extremely bright for a child with quite heavy behaviour problems, this show follows the lives of her, her enemy Justine littlewood, her ex best friend Louise, a journalist and hope to be foster mum for Tracy called cam, whom she tends to fall in and out with along the duration of the shows run, and a whole lot of other children and careworkers that come into the care home (Which the children tend to call the "Dumping ground" as the series goes on.

Well about the acting..not to over the top, not to boring, just good, but i wouldn't give this show high marks for its acting as I've seen better, yet again, this is a fun show with kids acting for fun, not a show the cast will win an Emmy for.

Well the story lines.. there believable and strong and sometimes quite moving..yet there are some in which can be pointless and boring at times such as the ones which Tracy weren't in, these being ones from the last series, and it was just about the other kids running around and pigs living in the dumping ground and identical twins coming to dumping ground parties and causing havoc, again, none of these having Tracy which was absolutely pointless and by now the show was going downhill.

However, i love this show, especially series 1-3, and am now a proud subscriber to the story of Tracy beaker DVD collecting magazine lol!
