The name of the show is a reference to "A Few Minutes With Steve Hartman" in 60 minutes II
While on Saturday Night Live (1975), 'Norm Macdonald' played various characters who were named Stan Hooper.
According to Norm MacDonald, the first season was supposed to end on a cliffhanger where Molly Hooper (Penelope Ann Miller) was brutally murdered, but the production was cancelled after only 13 episodes (only 6 of which aired), so this episode was never filmed.
The series was set in Wisconsin, the same state where Paramount Television, the show's production company, had success in the 1970s with "Happy Days" and its spin-off "Laverne and Shirley" (the latter of which moved its setting to Burbank, California in 1980).
