Jimeoin entertained the extras with jokes and such during breaks in filming, often staying on set until 4am despite not being needed in any scenes. On the final night of filming, Jimeoin made sure he met every extra and gave them a personal autograph.
Because of its tight budget, the producers of the film put an add in the paper for extras to work for free.
Jimeoin came up with the idea for the script after the premiere night of his film The Craic (1999). While exiting he was approached by two people who were disappointed that their roles as extras were cut out of the film. Jimeoin then thought it would be funny to do a film about the problem of being an extra.
The film within this film "The Eternal Flame III" features an actress called Catherine Arena, the name of Jimeoin's real life wife.
All the extras in the movie were given Subway to eat every night during filming.
