While you watch “Westworld” on Sunday, think about how good Evan Rachel Wood would have been in “Mean Girls.”
Yeah, that almost happened. The actress behind the HBO series’ lead robot host Dolores Abernathy not only auditioned for the 2004 Tina Fey feature comedy, she “turned it down.”
“There’s a good reason,” Wood assured Jimmy Fallon on Thursday’s “Tonight Show.” “I was already supposed to do a film called ‘Pretty Persuasion’ that was set in a high school that was very ‘Heathers’-esque. And it was very similar. I was already kind of doing that, so I was like, ‘I can’t [do ‘Mean Girls’].”

We guess that checks out. Wood did not reveal which role she was offered, but the talented singer sure hopes to get a second crack at a Fey movie. Maybe Fallon, Fey’s friend and former “Weekend Update” partner, can help.
“As long as the next movie you’re doing is not about a robot uprising, I will happily [do it],” Wood simultaneously told the “30 Rock” creator and Fallon’s 30 Rock studio audience last night.
Um, we’ve got some bad news for you, Evan. Somewhere, Lindsay Lohan is brushing up on her A.I.

James Woods in 'Videodrome.' James Woods in $10 million Twitter lawsuit feud: Crassly vocal right-wing actor goes after two crassly vocal users who attacked him In a letter dated Aug. 21, '15, Twitter attorney Ryan Mrazik ridiculed Surf's Up and Scary Movie 2 actor James Woods, while also highlighting the potentially dangerous precedent of a $10 million lawsuit the 68-year-old entertainer filed against a Twitter user last July. The lawsuit was followed by a subpoena demanding that the social media giant reveal the user's identity and that of another user with whom Woods has been embroiled in the (generally) no-holds-barred Twitterverse. In case you're unfamiliar with the name, these days the two-time Oscar-nominated Woods is best known for a supporting role as a right-wing sociopath in Roland Emmerich's thriller White House Down, starring Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx (as a liberal-minded U.S. president despised by Woods' character), and for his relentless,...

Ask and You Shall Receive: Burnett’s Adaptation Buoyed By Arresting Performances
Landing somewhere on a spectrum of unraveling female adolescent prototypes that plays like one part Evan Rachel Wood in Pretty Persuasion mixed with two parts Thirteen is Katie Kampenfelt, the heroine of director and novelist Allison Burnett’s latest feature, Ask Me Anything. Adapted from his own novel, Undiscovered Gyrl, his vanilla retitling doesn’t quite sit properly atop his intriguing, if sometimes baffling venture into the psyche of a superficially maladjusted teenage girl, instead sounding like a title you’d expect to grace the NeNe Leaks story. An intriguing, if sometimes questionable supporting cast rally splendidly around a noticeable central performance from Britt Robertson, often making up for the film’s tonal missteps to become a surprisingly entertaining indie feature that will have a hard time rising above the tethers of its mediocre packaging.

Charlie Countryman is a beautifully photographed, masterfully acted, and completely frustrating mess of a film.
After the death of his mother, Charlie (Shia LeBeouf), is told by the woman’s ghost that he should to go to Bucharest. The drug-addled, wayward youth jumps at the chance to follow his mother’s wishes and books a seat on a plane to a city he’s less than familiar with. Once on board, he befriends an elderly man who tells the story of his beautiful daughter awaiting his arrival. If you have seen the trailer, you know the man ends up dead midflight. On a mission from a deceased family member whilst sitting next to a corpse, one might think our hero would immediately abort mission. However, Charlie treks on, especially after one glimpse of the stunningly beautiful yet totally bereft daughter, Gabi (Evan Rachel Wood), in the flesh. The two exchange pleasantries,...

HollywoodNews.com: Drg Records is proud to announce the solo album debut of Jane Krakowski, the Tony Award winning Broadway star of “Nine” and “Damn Yankees” and the Emmy Award nominated star of “30 Rock” and “Ally McBeal.” The Laziest Gal In Town is the delightfully sexy CD captured last fall during her nightclub debut at the Park Avenue hotspot Feinstein’s at Loews Regency. The disc will be in stores and online July 13, 2010.
The Laziest Gal In Town – named for the droll Cole Porter title cut – lets Jane shine in a charming variety of standards, show songs and rarities. She recreates her acclaimed theatrical triumph as the evil temptress “Lola” in Damn Yankees with “A Little Brains, A Little Talent.” A medley of two zippy Jazz Age ditties, “Wacky Dust” and “When I Get Low, I Get High” – first popularized by the young Ella Fitzgerald – playfully sends up drug culture.

"30 Rock" star Jane Krakowski turned heads while dining in New York at the weekend - by passionately locking lips with fiance Robert Godley. True Blood, HBO's hyper-sexualized, super-stylized vampire drama, returns this weekend with a promise to amp-up the lesbian content in its sophomore season — at least a little.
You might be wondering what, exactly, True Blood can build upon in terms of sapphic substance — after all, zero multiplied by anything equals zero. It's a fair question.
First, let's run down last season to bring everyone up to speed.
Anna Paquin as Sookie Stackhouse in True Blood.
True Blood takes place in Bon Temps, a fictional town in Louisiana, where vampires, witches and shape-shifters mingle with humans. The creation of synthetic blood has allowed vampires to become regular citizens. Over the course of the season, Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), a telepathic waitress, meets and falls in love Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer), a rugged, handsome 175-year-old vampire. The main storylines concentrate on Bill and Sookie's relationship, as well as the relationship between Sookie's boss...

Prom queens and street kings hold court this week at the multiplexes while the college professors of "Smart People" and "The Visitor" preside at the art houses.
"Body of War"
Talk show legend Phil Donahue hands over the mic to Iraqi war veteran Tomas Young in this hard-hitting documentary that contrasts Young's struggle to re-enter civilian life as a paraplegic and anti-war activist with archival footage of an overeager U.S. Congress and what the filmmakers view as their hasty decision to greenlight the invasion. Although the film, co-directed by Donahue and Ellen Spiro, was named best documentary of 2007 by the National Board of Review, "Body of War" has earned equal attention for its soundtrack led by two tracks from Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder, with all proceeds going to the non-profit organization Iraq Veterans Against The War. (Check out our interview with Spiro and Donahue.)
Opens in New York.

Ryan Reynolds plays a meticulous efficiency expert whose regimented life is suddenly thrown off kilter in Chaos Theory, a would-be satire that spends its 86-minute running time struggling to find a workable tone and sticking to it.
The few moments when it does manage to stumble into a semblance of a comic groove, the film -- directed by Marcos Siega (Pretty Persuasion) from a blunt-edged script by Daniel Taplitz ("Breakin' All the Rules") -- suggests an ersatz American Beauty, but the effect proves fleeting.
Shot two years ago in Vancouver, the Warner Bros. release unlikely will cause much of a commotion at the boxoffice.
Reynolds' Frank Allen is the uptight author of a self-improvement best-seller titled "The Five Minute Efficiency Trainer," and he personally practices what he preaches, organizing his life into a series of index cards filled with to-do lists.
One morning, in a well-meaning effort to give her husband's painstaking scheduling a little breathing room, wife Susan (Emily Mortimer) has moved the clocks back 10 minutes, mistakenly believing she's bought Frank more time, when the opposite turns out to be the case.
That lost 10 minutes proves to be costly for Frank -- starting with a missed ferry to a speaking engagement and setting off a chain-reaction of awkward moments and misunderstandings that succeed in sending Frank's life spiraling completely out of control.
It would be tempting to say that the film follows suit, but that would be implying that there was a prior point at which Siega had some kind of grip on the material.
But that's never the case here as the picture continuously shuffles moods like tunes on an iPod without ever making any lasting commitments.
As a result, neither the comedy nor the quieter, more introspective moments carry any convincing weight, making it difficult for audiences to have much empathy for the leads and their predicaments.
Reynolds capably navigates those constantly shifting twists and turns, but it's at the expense of any sort of character credibility.
At least he gets to try different dispositions on for size as opposed to poor Mortimer, whose underdeveloped character feels like it was jotted down on one of Frank's index cards.
Production values are serviceable, though there are times when Siega, who started out as an in-demand music video director, seems more intent on keying sequences to their accompanying songs rather than making an effort to really connect with the story at hand.
