Alan Cumming is not a fan of dwelling on the past. “I don’t really have prepared ideas or thoughts about things from the past so much,” the actor, singer, novelist, activist, and general polymath says on Zoom as he prepares to embark on his upcoming one-man tour for Uncut, a one-man cabaret (yes, the title is a circumcision joke). “I try to pull the rug from under myself all the time, and not hearken back to things that I’ve done.”

When the name of Adam Sandler is associated with a film project in the industry, the first thing that comes to the audiences’ mind is the genre of it being another comedy from the star, and rightfully so. For almost two decades, the star has constantly provided Hollywood with some of the most hilarious and comical films in history,
But unfortunately, the star has also given the world some of the most throwaway pieces of cinema in the process.

Uncut Gems is widely considered a revival movie for Adam Sandler who was struggling with critically panned films. The Safdie brothers, Josh and Benny, directed the anxiety-inducing thriller after their earlier critically acclaimed movie, Good Time. The brothers have since had a fallout and Josh Safdie has been struggling to land a movie while Benny Safdie’s career is thriving. According to reports, Josh has turned to Sandler to save his rocky career.

From the minds behind The Rehearsal (Nathan Fielder) and Uncut Gems (Benny Safdie) comes a mockumentary/found footage style HGTV spoof about a couple trying to create The new big eco-friendly city and “do good for the community.” Set in Española, New Mexico, the series is completely riveting while simultaneously being absolutely revolting for most of the hour-long first episode. Trust us when we say you won’t be able to take anything seriously for more than 5 minutes at a time. Episode 1 introduces the couple, Whitney and Asher Seigel, played by Emma Stone (!) and Fielder, who are working on a documentary to show off their house-flipping skills in a show rightly titled Flipanthropy (oops).

Sydney – Monday 6 November, 2023. The Sydney Opera House today announced two electrifying contemporary music events over summer with genre-raiding psych-rockers Unknown Mortal Orchestra making their Concert Hall debut on January 30, and alternative R&b star Steve Lacy performing two shows in-the-round on 31 January and 1 February 2024.
Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s (Umo) appearance follows the March release of their definitive fifth album, V – an exquisite collection of songs that evokes the 70s rock and 80s pop of frontman Ruban Nielson’s childhood, while exploring love, loss and his Hawaiian heritage. The album makes a strong case for itself as his sun-bleached masterpiece, earning a 4.5 star review from Uncut and a place on The Guardian’s ‘best albums of 2023 so far’ list.
Umo initially achieved runaway success following the covert release of an anonymously penned track, ‘Ffunny Ffriends’, on Band Camp (2011). They’d go on to release five albums over the next 12 years, each...

Many of The Beatles‘ songs deal with timeless subjects, like love, sex, and peace. The members of the band still knew how to be topical, such as when Paul McCartney wrote a song inspired by the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. The tune appeared on an album that hit No. 1 in the United Kingdom but not the United States.
Paul McCartney’s coronavirus-inspired song is a collaboration with 1990s rock star Beck
During a 2020 interview with Uncut, Paul was asked about his song “Find My Way,” which deals with anxiety. “That was written at the beginning of lockdown,” he said. “It was a very scary time.” The tune came out in December 2020, when the pandemic was at its height.
“Other scares we’ve had — Sars, avian flu — they seemed to happen to other people,” Paul continued. “But this was happening to everyone, people you knew, everyone in the world. Some of my friends,...

Keith Richards and Mick Jagger are a fantastic songwriting duo who have written several classic rock songs for The Rolling Stones. However, the two artists have different personalities, sometimes creating conflicting lyrics. Jagger said Richards wrote one song for their Exile on Main St. album that he called “weird” and “difficult.”
Mick Jagger didn’t understand The Rolling Stones’ ‘Let It Loose’
“Let It Loose” was released in 1972 on The Rolling Stones’ 12th album Exile on Main St. While the track is credited to Jagger and Richards, it was primarily written by Richards. The song is about a man who is conflicted about a relationship he’s in. He knows the woman will break his heart but can’t resist her.
The track has gospel influences and contains lyrics from “Man of Constant Sorrow,” a traditional American folk song by Dick Burnett. In a 2010 interview with Uncut magazine, Jagger recalled “Let It Loose,...

Sebastian Bear-McClard, the estranged husband of Emily Ratajkowski who produced such films as the Safdie Brothers’ Good Time and Uncut Gems, has been accused of sexual misconduct by several women in a new report by Variety.
In statements reviewed by Variety, young women accused Bear-McClard of using his power as a producer to rope them into unequal sexual relationships, as well as creating uncomfortable work environments. One woman, who was 17 at the time, recalled the producer messaging her on Instagram about appearing in Good Time, promising screen time with star Robert Pattinson, without providing any specifics. Sebastian Bear-McClard is facing accusations of sexual misconduct, grooming, and assault related to multiple young women, a new report in Variety alleges.
The “Uncut Gems” and “Good Time” producer, who co-founded Elara Pictures in 2014 with writer-directors Josh and Benny Safdie, allegedly abused his power on set during the casting process and auditions for the indie films, distributed by A24.
An unnamed woman alleged in an interview with Variety that Bear-McClard reached out to her via Instagram when she was 17 years old in early 2016. The woman was approached to audition for a small role on “Good Time,” the Safdie brothers’ feature. Per Variety, the woman “came from an impoverished background in New York” and when she arrived on set, she was surprised to discover her scene involved being naked amongst nearly a dozen male cast and crew members, including writer-directors Josh and Benny Safdie.
The woman recalled that she “was utterly stunned and felt terrified.

Sometimes, there’s just no beating a good plot twist. David Fincher’s grisly 1995 noir Se7en, which marks its 25th anniversary today, is celebrated for many things, among them its shocking final twist.
But even upon repeat viewings, many people don’t notice the subtle clues left earlier in the film, which tipped their hand towards Se7en’s climactic reveal.
Foreshadowing can be a fine art, leveraged for great tragic or satirical effect – or it can simply be playful, a way of rewarding obsessed viewers who trawl through their favourite film or TV series hunting for Easter eggs.

The Sundance Film Festival works best when it is a launching pad for the next great wave of actors and directors. While the crowds in Park City, Utah always gather in droves to see the biggest names in cinema take on an indie role, there is nothing like witnessing a massive breakthrough. Fair Play just so happens to be the glass shattering debut of the 2023 Sundance Film Festival.
It’s been a long time since I’ve watched a film with 3 absolutely flooring impressions. Writer and Director Chloe Domont creates a rollercoaster ride that is 110 minutes of masterclass thriller filmmaking. It may be the most surprising and exciting arrival since Damien Chazelle’s Whiplash in 2014.
Whiplash also debuted at Sundance and left audiences thrilled and emotionally spent, thanks in part to two incredible performances.
Much like Miles Teller and J.K. Simmons, Phoebe Dynevor (Bridgerton) and Alden Ehrenreich (Solo) give career defining and altering performances.

By the looks of things, Adam Sandler is heading back down the path he paved with “Uncut Gems,” and is returning to his more dramatic side.
On Tuesday, Netflix released the first official trailer for “Hustle,” an upcoming sports drama directed by Jeremiah Zagar from a screenplay by Taylor Materne and Will Fetters.
Per the official synopsis from Netflix, “Stanley Sugerman’s love for basketball is unparalleled, but the travel-weary Philadelphia 76ers scout who has higher ambitions of being a coach remains stuck on the road looking for the next unknown talent. His search around the world leads him to Spain, when he discovers Bo Cruz, an incredible streetball player with a troubled past. Stanley and Bo connect on and off the court, with their passion for the game and as loving family men who want to prove they can win, in basketball and in life. With the support of Stanley’s wife,...

Netflix’s new comedy Space Force arrived on Friday and was a big hit with viewers, quickly rising over the weekend to become the streaming service’s most popular title despite a lukewarm critical reception, beating out the likes of fantastic animated fantasy Avatar: The Last Airbender, Adam Sandler vehicle Uncut Gems, dark comedy Dead to Me and improving superhero series The Flash. And to date, it’s still the most popular thing on the platform.
With The Office being such an institution of American TV, the notion of a new workplace comedy from its creator and star was always going to attract interest, and the core concept has a great deal of potential to work with. Inspired by Trump’s narcissistic desire to militarize space, the series follows newly promoted four-star general Mark Naird (Steve Carell) as he’s placed in charge of the laughable new branch of the...

The Independent Spirit Awards are an annual award given in the name of independent film, featuring all of the indie films which deserve the honor and recognition that they usually don't receive - celebrating their 35th year. The 2020 winners of the Spirit Awards were announced Saturday before the Oscars at a ceremony in Santa Monica. The two main winners: Lulu Wang's The Farewell, taking home the top prize, and Uncut Gems, which won Best Director(s) & Editing, along with Adam Sandler nabbing the prize for Best Male Lead. The rest of the nominees from 2019 included many stellar films that got snubbed by other award shows, a much better selection than the Academy Awards. These are always a nice counter-balance to the Oscars, especially with Uncut and Farewell leading the way. Read on for the list of Indie Spirits results. You'll notice an [IMDb] link next to each film. This...

The 35th annual Film Independent Spirit Awards saluted an array of winners that will likely be more diverse in race and gender, more adventurous artistically and less predictable than the winners at Sunday’s Academy Awards.
In the process, Spirit Awards voters still managed to leave the impression that they’d like to be the Oscars and will only settle for being a true alternative when the nominations leave them no other choice — right up until the final award of the afternoon, when they pulled an unexpected move and chose “The Farewell” over Oscar nominee “Marriage Story” and three-time Spirit winner “Uncut Gems.”
Coming not long after Zhao Shuzhen, the 85-year-old star of “The Farewell,” beat Jennifer Lopez in the Best Supporting Female category, the win put a wild spin on a show that until then had alternated between awarding Oscar nominees and saluting the Safdie brothers’ “Uncut Gems,” which won three awards.

As you’re reading this, the 35th Independent Spirit Awards are being held. Oscar will have their say tomorrow evening, but today, it’s the indie films getting their turn! Will this awards show honor the likes of The Farewell, The Lighthouse, Marriage Story, or Uncut Gems? Maybe some combination of them all? We’ll know in a few hours, that’s for sure. What this space for the Spirit Award results once the show is over. A number of deserving movies and performances are about to have one last moment in the sun, before the Academy Awards suck up the last bit of awards season oxygen. If nothing else, it’s a fun, more casual moment, before the pomp and circumstance of the Oscars… Leading the way was Uncut Gems, which took home Best Actor for Adam Sandler, Best Director for Josh Safdieand Benny Safdie, Best Editing for Ronald Bronstein and Benny Safdie.

The Razzie nominations are out and Cats, A Madea Family Funeral, and Rambo: Last Blood cleaned up.
The Golden Raspberry Foundation announced its picks for 2019’s worst achievements in film, a day before the Academy Awards honor the industry’s best.
Cats, which the Razzie folks described as a “widely derided feline flop,” picked up eight nods. A Madea Family Funeral and Rambo: Last Blood also received eight nominations. All three films landed in the worst picture category.
Tyler Perry, who wrote, produced, directed and played four roles in A Madea Family Funeral, received multiple nods — worst screenplay, worst actress, worst screen combo, and two worst supporting actor nominations.
The Razzie Award winners are usually announced the day before the Oscars. But according to the Golden Raspberry Foundation, the schedule was changed this year due to the Oscar ceremony being moved up. The Razzie Awards date will be announced later.

The winners of the 2020 Independent Spirit Awards are being announced live during today’s ceremony, hosted for the second year in a row by Aubrey Plaza (fresh off rave reviews from Sundance for her performance in the indie “Black Bear”). Unlike the Oscars where Netflix is the most-nominated studio, the Spirit Awards are dominated in 2020 by A24. The indie distributor boats 18 nominations across four movies: “The Lighthouse,” “Waves,” “The Farewell,” “Uncut Gems,” and “The Last Black Man in San Francisco.” The Safdie brothers’ “Uncut Gems” and Robert Eggers’ “The Lighthouse” lead all movies with five nominations each. Both of these films are nominated for Best Feature along with Terrence Malick’s “A Hidden Life,” Lulu Wang’s “The Farewell,” Noah Baumbach’s “Marriage Story,” and Chinonye Chukwu’s “Clemency.”

This year, the Independent Spirit Awards are really indie. A24 dominates the field with 18 Spirit Award nominations over five films. Of that group, only “The Lighthouse” scored an Oscar nod, for Best Cinematography.
That means several high-profile contenders who did not land Oscar nominations will get strong Spirit sympathy votes. “The Lighthouse” and “Uncut Gems” have five nominations each, so Robert Pattinson, Willem Dafoe, and Adam Sandler are strong acting contenders. In the Supporting Female race, there’s no way Jennifer Lopez doesn’t win the Spirit for Oscar-snubbed “Hustlers,” fresh from her Super Bowl triumph.
“Uncut Gems” goes up against Netflix’s Best Picture Oscar nominee “Marriage Story” for Best Feature, which is already taking home the Robert Altman Ensemble Award for Noah Baumbach’s high-wattage cast. That’s why the movie has only three nomination, and could lose Best Feature to the Safdie brothers’ popular thriller.

The casting branch of the academy is only six years old and doesn’t have an Oscar category of its own. However, the Casting Society of America has been handing out the Artios Awards for 34 years (“Artios” is from the ancient Greek meaning “perfectly fitted.”). This year’s awards took place on Thursday (Jan. 30) on both coasts. At the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, winners included three of the Oscar nominees for Best Picture: “Jojo Rabbit,” “Marriage Story”” and “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.” (see full list of winners below).

With Oscar ballots in Academy voters’ hands, we’re forging ahead with our third annual series of interviews with Academy voters from different branches for their candid thoughts on what got picked, overlooked, and overvalued this year.
Best Picture
People get so enraged about films that are not nominated. It’s so subjective. It’s exciting to vote for the Oscars, but it’s not the be-all and end-all, the greatest films of all time. It’s great to reward things. People get impassioned and angry at snubs, but look at your favorite films. Look at how many classics didn’t get nominated for anything? I liked “Uncut Gems,” but I wasn’t surprised that the Academy snubbed a challenging movie. It’s one that people will still be talking about for years to come.
Deep down, when it comes to voting, you do vote for the films you like the best.

The night before the Academy Awards, the Film Independent Spirit Awards will be handed out. Obviously, the indie equivalent to the Oscars is not a predictable precursor, but it has another charm to it. Namely, it’s that this is the final chance to cite some of the beloved movies of 2019 that the Academy snubbed. Films that came close to Oscar nominations but missed, as well as ones that never sniffed a nomination, they both compete equally here. Other years have had more flicks that line up with the big boys, but it’s an interesting mix here. In fact, it’s very hard to tell how the Indie Spirit Awards will go this time around, but I’m about to try, that’s for sure. Take a look now at my predictions for the Spirit Awards. We’ll have another update before the show, but for now, this is my preview…...

Neon’s “Parasite” won best motion picture cast at the 26th Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday, becoming the first foreign language film to pick up the top prize. Netflix’s “The Crown” was named best TV drama and Amazon’s “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” earned the prize for best TV comedy in a strong showing for streaming services.
“The Crown’s” victory came in a season of major changes for the insider look at the House of Windsor, one that ushered in an entirely new cast of performers, as Queen Elizabeth II entered middle age on screen.

Like every year, the 2020 Oscar nominations shut out major films and contenders — and Rian Johnson, who received a nomination for his “Knives Out” screenplay, would’ve liked to see both Greta Gerwig and “Uncut Gems” get nominations.
“There were so many things this year that I adored: ‘Uncut Gems,’ I would’ve loved to see that [get nominated], and I think Greta [Gerwig] did such a wonderful job with ‘Little Women.’ Every single year, it’s always a mixed bag,” Johnson told TheWrap following his nomination. “I would’ve loved to see ‘Uncut Gems’ get some love.
