Kiss frontman Gene Simmons and Gary Hamilton, chairman of Arclight Films, have launched Simmons/Hamilton Prods. to develop, finance and produce feature films.
The standalone banner will produce 25 movies over an initial five-year period, with a focus on action, thriller and genre titles with global franchise potential.
The company is backed by a multi-billion dollar fund manager that is providing slate financing through a revolving finance facility. Arclight Films’ CFO Brian Beckmann was responsible for closing the slate funding deal. All films created under the new company — which was first discussed five years ago, and recently firmed up — will be produced by Simmons and Hamilton, both of whom are in Cannes for the festival. The focus is to build a feature film production company, targeting original theatrical product that can be developed into franchise properties.
The collaboration will merge Arclight Films’ expertise in the independent production, finance and sales space...

Rocker Gene Simmons will be in Cannes on Monday to interview Entertainment One president and CEO Darren Throop onstage for a Mip TV keynote session. The Kiss co-founder will also be there to pitch his new hidden-camera reality show, Busted. Simmons and eOne are teaming on the show, which eOne is selling internationally (although Simmons has retained dibs on merchandise). The bassist created the behind-the-scenes series in which he goes on tour with some of the biggest bands in the world and gives audiences an all-access pass to backstage practical jokes. Executive producers include John Morayniss, Tara Long and Jeff Hevert on behalf of eOne and Simmons. No stranger to reality TV, Simmons previously starred in the long-running A&E show Gene Simmons Family Jewels along with two seasons of Gene Simmons’ Rock School for VH1. He also created the shows Mr. Romance for Oxygen and My Dad The Rock Star for NickToons.

TORONTO -- Kids animation is making a splash on the eve of the international television market MIPTV in Cannes with a slew of deals by two major international animation houses -- Canada's Nelvana Ltd. and Germany's TV-Loonland -- unveiled Thursday. Cartoon Network Latin America has picked up a major package of cartoons from Canadian animation producer Nelvana Ltd., including Max & Ruby, The Berenstain Bears, Pecola, 6teen, Delta State, Clone High and Bob & Margaret. TORONTO -- Canadian cartoon producer Nelvana Ltd. said Monday that it has inked a home video and DVD pact with Teletoon, the country's all-animation specialty channel. Toronto-based Nelvana said the joint venture with Teletoon will bring library titles like Pippi Longstocking and Braceface into retail stores under a newly-created Teletoon Presents label. Distribution partner kaBoom! Will release the first Teletoon Presents home entertainment offering, My Dad the Rock Star, on April 4, Nelvana said. Nelvana vp home entertainment Peter Maule said his company wanted to leverage its ties to the specialty channel to launch new home-video and DVD titles.
