In the last decade or so, there seems to be a burgeoning interest in biopics of black musicians from yesteryear. From Marvin Gaye, to Bob Marley, Mahalia Jackson, Nina Simone, Aretha Franklin (although she’s still very much alive), and others I’m forgetting at the moment. We’ve written about them all on this website.
