Many years have passed since Arthur discovered his true inheritance and after much fighting most of England now accept him as their new King. But one knight, Accolon, refuses to recognize him as monarch due to the deaths of his brothers at Arthur's hand and vows revenge. Meanwhile Arthur becomes transfixed with Guinevere, the daughter of Leodograunce, but little realizes what he sets in motion when he sends Lancelot to fetch her to attend his court in view of potentially marrying her.

Meanwhile Sir Lancelot has been avoiding Guinevere due to his feelings for her, but finds an opportunity to distance himself from her when old King Pelles comes to court to ask for their help. He has been usurped by his nephew, while his daughter Elaine has been bewitched and kept prisoner in a tower guarded by a serpent. But in a dream he saw the name of the only knight that could save her - that of Sir Lancelot.

A new knight comes to offer his services to King Arthur in the shape of Guido de la Porte, but little realizes the part he will have to play in events to come. As Morgan secretly plots her revenge on Arthur, Agravain notices the close relationship between Sir Lancelot and Queen Guinevere and decides to spread a rumour to the other knights. Meanwhile Arthur decides to hold a tournament which Lancelot decides to enter in secret, taking refuge in friend Vavasour's cottage to put on his disguise and in the process meets his daughter Eleanor. And he proves needful of her help when events take a sinister turn.

Sir Lancelot is being nursed by a hermit and Eleanor, who has fallen in love with him, after he was shot with a poisoned arrow. King Arthur and Gawain seek out the cottage of Vavasour's that Gawain discovered earlier, only to find Morgan there, who tells Arthur of the rumour about Lancelot and Guinevere. And when he returns to court he finds Guinevere on trial accused of killing Guido with a poisoned peach. When Guido's brother Modor arrives he calls for her to face the death penalty in revenge of his brother.

Years have passed and Camelot is seemingly at peace again. An old man called Naciens arrives with a young charge called Sir Galahad to offer his services to the Knights of the Round Table. Soon after a vision of the Holy Grail appears, leading to Arthur dispatching Gawain, Lancelot, Bors and Sir Galahad to go and search for it. But while they are away, little does Arthur suspect that Morgan is plotting her revenge against him.

Guinevere finds herself on trial for her life after Mordred accuses her of adultery with Sir Lancelot, leading for him to call for her to be burned at the stake. Bors resigns his position as a knight in protest and joins forces with an escaped Lancelot to rescue Guinevere from her funeral pyre. But the rescue results in the deaths of two of the knights, leading to Mordred to persuade Arthur to go and seek revenge on her with an army to France, where they are hiding out.

With Guinevere back home in Camelot, she is told by Mordred that King Arthur and Sir Lancelot have been killed in battle in a message from France and declares himself King. But Sir Bedivere is distrustful of the letter and decides to smuggle out Guinevere from Camelot and warn Arthur of Mordred's treachery. But Mordred's alliance with the Saxon King Arcon only serves to alienate him from his aunt Morgan, who refuses to help him when Arthur returns home, resulting in the battle to the death for Camelot.
