This outstanding documentary series interviews many top film composers and the directors who worked with them. It explores the role of music in film and the decisions made, and methods used, in the choice and development of music for a film. Released in 2001, it covers films old and new and charts the development of ideas in film music over time. Each episode covers an emotional theme: love, suspense, heroics, humour, and the chase, with the last episode dedicated to independent films and their innovative scores. Highlights include seeing top composers at their piano or computer demonstrating their craft, examples from award-winning soundtracks, and exciting stories of the genesis of favourite themes and moments. Contains enough star power to feel just like watching a blockbuster. Goes right to the heart of what film-making is all about: the power of films to move and intrigue us. Does for movie music what Soundbreaking and Dancing in the Streets did for pop.
