My favourite childhood movie!
nurbs119 January 2006
Of all of my childhood memories, watching this film is one of my favourites! Although now it may seem somewhat dated, I believe it to be a forgotten masterpiece. Anthony Squire did an excellent job directing this, and with stars such as Norman Bowler appearing in it, your enjoyment is almost guaranteed.

It also has some very memorable quotes, such as 'I hate mackerel pie', 'the Thames water is polluted' and 'they rowed them across in barges you know' as well as the classic 'Jack's going to be an Ornithologist!'. You really have to watch it to appreciate this to its full extent.

If you love children's classics, this film should suit you too.

hi 5 to childhood ... and everlasting Enid Blyton fun

This is a classic.

I am currently trying to find my old VHS. The characters are wonderful for the range of emotions which they evoke upon the audience; though admittedly limited to a younger audience that will feel exhilarated by the exciting adventure along with the fear which accompanies it.

Well many years down the track it certainly had an affect on me and I would love to find a copy so that I can share the excitement with younger generations ... or perhaps more so for some old time enjoyment. Along with Kym Lardner and the old school Disney robin hood this is defs one of my old time favourites.

The film that gave John Rhys-Davies his big break

A family friendly classic that all can enjoy. All who recorded it onto video cassette back when it was released in the 80's that is. For sadly, this masterpiece of a film was only ever made for television.

Featuring outstanding performances from John Rhys-Davies and Norman Bowler (and fairly terrible performances from half of the rest of the cast, it has to be said) this film is a roller-coaster of action - from explosions to birds flying in through windows, from boat chases to frogs hopping out of bowls.

The Island of Adventure needs to be re-released, preferably a full HD remastered version, so that everyone can come to love the many colourful catchphrases from this fantastic film: "I hate mackerel pie", "She flew in through the window?", "No wonder they call this place Piccadilly Circus" and "Now you see what it is like when the servant becomes the master!"
