- Voodoo dolls are feared and mysterious. The title character in this film short starts out with the same mystique even if, like a doll, he is strangely docile. The lawless gang he is peripherally part of engages in various acts of crime and self-abasement arranged and instigated by the leader, Pope, who implies that the real rainmaker is Voodoo Doll. Tagging along with this ragtag collection of aimless, drug-addled minions is the sardonically named, Joy, who is by default attached to one thug, Dex, but who is intrigued by Voodoo Doll. The scarecrow-like wool ski mask he wears creates most if not all the foreboding mystery until the flashbacks begin. Here we learn that Voodoo Doll is in fact the Verso-Voodoo Doll - stick a pin in him and all the horror stays and boils within. The ending can go one of two ways and it matters greatly to the overall success of what is a simple story of sadness and repressed trauma. It appears that the correct choice is made. Like the scarecrow (and the verso-voodoo doll) looks and street cred can be deceiving.—Evan Bando
- A gang of young, lost kids hangs out in a wasteland. They come from different backgrounds but have all fallen through the cracks, exiting mainstream society and entering a dysfunctional world of relationships borne of desperation. Apart from consuming and selling drugs, they work for The Pope, a pimp who organizes private parties for older men with the kids as entertainment. The story centers around Voodoo Doll, a new kid who works under The Pope whose face is always covered and whose past is shrouded in mystery. The gang feels threatened by Voodoo Doll because he is favored by the Pope. Between Dexter, the gang's boss, and Voodoo Doll, the tension quickly explodes, and only the intervention of The Pope temporarily calms things down. Dexter's girlfriend Joy is the one gang member who finds herself intrigued by Voodoo Doll's persona, and she attempts to get close to him. But Voodoo Doll is on a mission whose objective goes far beyond love or rivalry.—VD's team
