Not in the business, but someone that knows good films !!!
stevemullins30 October 2004
Saw the movie at the New York Film Festival in LA. The film caught my attention from the beginning and held it throughout. The cast worked as a unit and played off and got the most out of each other. The movie was funny and touches the heart. Jane reaches and achieves new heights blending her comedy talents with that of the inner soul.

Karl Fink (The Director) uses subtle movements and side objects throughout that adds to the fun of the movie. He also leads the group of actors doing what they love best to do and that is giving to the audience.

This film has to be picked up by someone or they are going to miss out on the talents of Karl (the Director), Jane and the other actors in the film. If the response of the audience is anything what can be expected for this movies, it is going to be a fun show for many to go and see and become part of.

Thanks to the entire cast and crew for making a fun movie with a meaningful and touchable story line where there is no big car crashes, large bombs going off, or gratuitous sex that is not needed. All areas of the film melted together to form a wonderful independent film (Again, one that should be picked up by one of the carries) for all !!!!

Very enjoyable film.

My wife and I watched this film and found it very funny in parts and having had two friends go through similar events it was good to see a "positive" version for once. Good storyline, and believable situations... almost true to life.

Jane Sibbett does a great job of the "disbelieving" independent (but really dependent) woman. David Newsome is also wonderful at playing the flighty, down to earth, laid back, yet genius level intellect that relentlessly tries to show Jane that this is a GOOD thing and to not through it away.

Although I won't spoil this story line... the ending will get you!! :-)

Check Out This Flick!

Just finished watching "A One Time Thing" and would like to recommend this film to anyone looking for a funny and quirky alternative to big-budget star driven romantic comedies. The ensemble cast of fine actors, lead by a sizzling and sexy Jane Sibbett makes this comedy a must-see. Karl Fink's writing is crisp and brilliant, his character's are memorable and compelling.

There are no hidden gimmicks here...just solid film-making from Fink, who draws you into his suburban lair and then turns it on its head. Sibbett does a fantastic job of balancing comedy and drama as her character endures the ultimate humiliation from her scoundrel fiancé.

Valerie Spencer is fabulous as the best friend, as is David Newsom, the lead opposite Sibbett. He and Sibbett are fun to watch, fun to root for, and their chemistry is contagious. Can you tell I liked this movie? Do yourself a favor...get a bucket of popcorn, a blanket, a pillow and sit back for a truly enjoyable romp with "A One Time Thing".

Even better the second time around.
jgaines-414 June 2005
I saw this film at the Hollywood premiere last year and knew it was going to be a hit. Last week I purchased the DVD from www.trustranchstudios.com and watched it in the comfort of my own home. It was even better the second time around!!! What an absolutely delightful film. It is so well done in every area. Great story line. Great acting. Great chemistry between all the characters. And, it was so funny that I laughed out loud.

I have passed on info about this film to my family and friends and they have also purchased a copy. Everyone loves it!!! What a joy to find this little treasure. Pass the word and enjoy.

The emotion is positive, questionable and disturbing in minutes.

This movie is very fun to watch. It takes a day of life and adds a lot of thinking as to how life could be if you were one of the people in the movie. The the pregnant woman takes all women to a place to be dedicate to be a mom or not. The soon to be dad is incredible he has the dedication to be a dad that we wish all men to have but hardly ever see in this day and age. The want to be husband is one in a million. He wants life to give him all the great parts of life but wants to give nothing to life to deserve it. This hits home with almost all. We all have the dream that life is full of flowers but we soon realize that life is only what you give to it. If you give you get in a very big way. This movie has a great way of taking everyday emotion to new levels quickly. The emotion is positive, questionable and disturbing in minutes. We loved it!!!!!!!!!!

Absolutely a wonderful movie.
jgaines-416 November 2004
We saw this film in Hollywood at a film festival and could not understand why it was not in the movie houses. What a wonderful movie!!! The stars were fabulous, especially Jane Sibbett who has such a flair for comedy. Karl Fink did a wonderful job of writing and directing. The entire cast was right on the mark. It truly was a delightful movie that kept us interested and laughing throughout. There were two young girls sitting next to me and two older people sitting behind me. They were all totally impressed with the story and the acting and enjoyed every minute. It is so refreshing to see a film that has a happy ending and without a ton of nude scenes and cuss words. I have recommended it to all my friends, co workers and family and hope they will have the opportunity to view it soon. This is a great film that is sure to please everyone!!!

I know we will see more of their work in the future. They are destined to be successful because they offer what most people want to see - a movie that lets you leave the theater smiling!!!!

Rare gem feel good romantic comedy
JJYHgirl8 August 2007
When I watched the preview of this movie, I really wanted to watch it. I just finished watching it and really enjoyed it. It's a rare gem of feel good movie. It is not a spectacular big budget blockbuster but a sweet film that would make you feel good. I think I would go back to watching it over and over. I am afraid that I've only seen Jane play sort of lighthearted-evil step mom characters and was surprised how well fit she was for this character Casey. She's a great actress and I wish that we get to see more of her. I think Jane and David have great chemistry. It's a very well written, directed and acted movie. The lighting could have been better but it's a real indy movie not a pretend indy movie like Foxsearchlight or something...so I can't complain.

This movie is a ton of fun.
sriley-613 January 2006
It is not surprising to me that the movie industry's numbers are off this year since no one has seen fit to take this movie and put it in every theater in the country. It is funny, it is charming, it is well thought out, well written, well produced, well acted....oh I guess I could go on and on.

Part of the fun is getting to see actors and actresses that you SWEAR you have seen before, but you just can't quiiiiiite remember where. Clearly there is a ton of relatively unrecognized talent out there, and Karl Fink seems to have found a bunch of it.

Do yourself a favor...order this today, wait for it to arrive, and sit back and enjoy yourself. We loved it!!!

Wonderful Romantic Comedy
eric-sato24 November 2004
This is a wonderful Romantic Comedy. It is funny, actors click and the story flows. It just took me with it for a wonderful time. I saw it at the NY Film Festival (LA venue). This is a movie I want to take my wife to see.

I am not an Entertainment Industry professional, so I do not know the technical points that made this so enjoyable (though I am sure there are many). I just know what I like. All the cast fit. I thought the lead actress and actor, Jane Sibbett and David Newsom, were made for this movie. Their performances are to be applauded. The performance of Valerie Spencer, as the heroine's best friend, really added to the humor and humanity of this film. Go see this movie.

A Truly Entertaining Experience!!!
janice-terada22 November 2004
After viewing "A One Time Thing" premiering at the New York Film and Video Festival, my faith has been renewed that entertaining films do exist and are on the threshold of being discovered and appreciated by a wide audience.

Karl Fink has masterfully orchestrated the film to evoke a sense of involvement with each of the characters, their situations and their outcomes. In doing so, he seems to have found the perfect formula and leaves the audience wanting more.

The chemistry between the performers was outstanding, in particular, the performance of Jane Sibbett. Her role as Casey Hill allowed her to showcase a myriad of her acting abilities that touched the audience - we cheered, we cried and we laughed with her.

"A One Time Thing" is a breath of fresh air in the current arena of films that seem to think that sex, violence and profanity are the standard.

I am certain that "A One Time Thing" will prove to be an indicator of GOOD things to come for those involved in the film and for those of us in the audience.
