Moana is the story of a young Polynesian heir ineffably drawn to the one thing that her community opposes: venturing out into the ocean, like the little mermaid was so drawn to land, like a monster to Boo, and like an ambitious rat was to the culinary arts.
Moana Head of Animation Hyrum Osmand (Zootopia, Frozen, Wreck It Ralph, Tangled) and Story Artist David Derrick Jr. (How To Train Your Dragon, Flushed Away, Bee Movie) talked with the press in a roundtable before speaking to the visual arts students at the University of Denver. Tucked away in a corner of the university, David tapped into what made Moana so personal to him, allowing him to segue easily into the film’s themes of Polynesian ancestry and culture while Hyrum explored the unique challenges this particular film offered Disney’s elite animators.

Fellow Liberal Dead-heads, this is Ryne from The Moon is a Dead World. I’ve signed on to do a sort of recap/review of each week’s horror hits, so welcome to DEADtime TV.
Each week I’ll cover horror television shows and give you a brief review of what went down, how it worked, and if it was any good. I’m only one man – and I’m also playing catch-up with some of the series currently airing right now – so this is in no way meant to be a definitive compilation of each week’s shows. It’s just what I happened to catch this week.
As we get further into this series of posts, there might be others joining me to help out with compiling shows, and additions will be made when new seasons begin. You can expect to find Bates Motel, Hannibal, The Following, and...

American Horror Story: Coven opened with Marie (Angela Bassett) and Fiona (Jessica Lange) appearing to come together under the banner of a common cause at the now infamous 9th Ward hair salon. Will the bond remain, or will the two witching leaders soon turn against each other again?
American Horror Story: Coven Recap
When Fiona left Marie, Marie received a visit from Papa Legba (Lance Reddick). Papa Legba is a half-deity/half-man figure of the voodoo world, who has sway and influence over Marie. In fact, if she doesn’t do what he says, there will be trouble. He urges her to keep her part of an age-old bargain. She then leaves the salon and heads to a nursery, where she steals a baby. Marie follows that up with using her mind to get two cops to shoot one another – in front of the baby.
Meanwhile, Fiona has taken Misty...

I know what you're wondering: did Queenie survive her grievous, ingenious gunshot wound, or has she passed from this world? Why either of us thought American Horror Story would spill the beans on her subplot just yet, I'll never know. Word is still out on Queenie's survival, but either way, Hank's hair salon massacre was enough to drive Marie Laveau straight into a truce with her mortal evil Fiona. "I'm ashamed to show you my weakness," Laveau admits in an intense-bordering-on-erotic confession. The death of her closest friends could not...

Previously on The Fosters, Lena and Stef of number four, Foster Drive, were proud to say they we not perfectly normal, thank you very much. Dumbledore left a 16-year-old on their front steps and then the trouble started. Mariana Parkinson started stealing her twin brother’s meds to sell for money to buy herself a new quidditch broom. Just kidding. She was hoping it would buy her way in with the cool kids and with her birth mom. Brandon Diggory, played some beautiful music and nearly got to be head boy. But then he got distracted by Callie’s sad puppy eyes and followed her into the Shrieking Shack to try to save her brother, Colin Creevey. Before Scabbers could blow his head off, Mama Lupin and Papa Snape arrived in time to save the day. Stef was a sucker for a hero type troublemaker,...

Oliver put the list ahead of Diggle, Thea celebrated her 18th birthday with a horrible ending, and Felicity helped Oliver again on the latest episode of Arrow.
Below, our Arrow Round Table - comprised of TV Fanatic staff members Carla Day, Kate Brooks and Carissa Pavlica, along with Laurel Brown from BuddyTV - break down all the betrayals, action and teenage angst. Agree or disagree with us? We want to hear from you!
-----------------------
What was your favorite moment in "Trust But Verify"?
Kate: The scene with Diggle and his sister-in-law where they were looking at each other through the fence. It was an emotional moment where you saw just how much they care about each other. I loved it!
Carissa: Laurel admitting she had something with Tommy. It was nice that she was letting herself live a little and get into the moment without putting too much thought into things.

Confession: We weren't too upset about "The Vampire Diaries" going on hiatus for the holiday season. This season has been so fast-paced (read: awesome) that we needed a breather to collect our thoughts!
That relief lasted about five minutes before we started getting antsy for more Mystic Falls. There's still a month left before "Tvd" returns to our screens at 8 p.m. on January 5, but our withdrawal symptoms were flaring up, so we thought it was about time to check in with executive producer Julie Plec. Julie gave Zap2it a ring from Atlanta where the cast was hard at work on episode 314.
Looking back on some of the things we've loved about Season 3, Elena's (Nina Dobrev) evolution is high on our list. In the first episode, we found her having spent a summer pining for Stefan (Paul Wesley). As the season soldiered on, however, she finally emerged from her cloud of denial.

Steve Buscemi is very aware that he's typecast in weirdo roles, but luckily in recent years he's been able to transition into an offbeat leading man. In the interest of helping others, he dedicated his entire "Saturday Night Live" monologue Dec. 3 to answering questions from other character actors, like Andy Samberg's "Take care of her, bro" bro and Jay Pharaoh's sassy legal thriller judge. Well, he didn't so much answer them as allow them to ask him things.
Either way, the "SNL" writers also embraced his strange vibe, and wrote the respected actor into many a weirdo role in the episode.
Guess what we learned? It worked -- you don't mess with a good thing. That said, not everything can be great. Here's what we thought of the show:
The Good

Wednesday night, American Idol broke out the time-honored theme of “Songs From the Year You Were Born,” which is alternately known as “Excuses to Show Contestants’ Baby Photos” Week and also “Holy Crap, You Could Have Totally Changed That Singer’s Diaper!” Night. Song selections ranged from Nirvana to Whitney Houston (twice!), and from “I’m just gonna pretend that wasn’t the theme from Disney’s Pocahontas” to “Dude, Carrie and Allison sang it better, and as a matter of fact, so did Gina Glocksen.” And that was just the tip of the inscrutable iceberg.

This is The week to invest in a PS3 just so you can buy and download the fantastic Dead Nation exclusively on the Playstation Network. Trust us - it will be worth your while.
If you are not a gamer, this week's horror offerings are limited to some fangless bites with the latest installment of Twilight, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (and all its related merchandise), staking (ha!) out a Saturday release all by itself. There's also Vampires Suck, but the release party flash mob in Hollywood on November 30th sounds more interesting than the film itself.
Dead Nation (Video Game)
Available exclusively on the Playstation Network for $14.99, Dead Nation (Review) is said to be home to the "smartest zombies" to ever be placed in a video game, meaning that these baddies will perform surprise attacks, drop down on you from buildings, and even grab at you through fences. On top...

A Work In Progress: Halls and the lobby of Loews remained bare and quiet until Monday when the final day approaches and buyers began congregating in final deals. Surprisingly to all multiple sales had already been made by day 2 and sales for some, if not all were better than expected even if prices were lower. At the Thursday evening European Film Promotion reception, where all friends in the biz meet with welcoming smiles, Marcus Hu of Strand said he was already packing up to go as he had made his purchases..they were already screening Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday before AFM began he said. One sales agent remarked that Toronto was the zero level and AFM looked like level 1 had been reached. One sales agent said only theatrical films were selling. Jonathan Wolf says AFM has are 10% fewer sellers (369 vs. 412 in 2008) but 4% more buyers with 13 new buyers from South Korea,...
