Above Average DCOM
femaleanimefan31 December 2006
Though this film wasn't my favorite, it was above average. I am not a fan of Disney Channel movies because most of them are predictable and about the exact same thing. My favorite DCOM's are the Halloweentown Trilogy, Read it and Weep, Eddie's Million Dollar Cook Off, and Rip Girls. This film doesn't really get on my favorites because(no offense) it was kind of boring.

I liked the idea and the plot but I didn't get into it that much and it just wasn't really my cup of tea. It was a good try though. The originality was definitely there.

This movie could have been better but it was still a bit entertaining. A decent watch.

Had potential
raycooke15 March 2005
This movie in my opinion had potential but, went off in mixing Navajo culture with buffalo. as a Navajo myself i found it a bit offensive that they did not even any of our traditional values. they just mixed what they about us with the movie. the plot has some work to do but like i said earlier it had potential. the cast did a fine job and Mr. Green did his best in the pronunciation of the Navajo words. after awhile the cast started getting a bit corny but near the end they pulled themselves together. but there is one thing that i liked about this and that is the distant relation the two main characters have at first because of their culture. I just wish that the producers had spent a little more time in the research of the Navajo.

Nice Attempt
versavulture24 November 2019
It was a good attempt on Disney to showcase native Americans but it not only mixed up a lot of Northern tribe traditions but it also doesn't capture New Mexico at all. It was filmed in Utah and a lot of scenery wasn't right even the reserve is more based on Utah than New Mexico. Also, where are the Spanish and native New Mexicans? In the film it was mostly white people and only a few navajos. I really enjoyed the movie, but being a New Mexican I wished it represented my state better.

Nice D.C.O.M.
Go_Skins15 March 2005
I really liked this movie! It's a D.C.O.M. (Disney Channel Original Movie) which are pretty good. It's about a family with an only child named Josh. The father of the family gets a job as a scientist and is supposed to move out near some Navajo Indian land. Josh meets a couple guys that become his friends. It's a good story to watch and follow. The parents are portrayed to be loving, caring people for their child. Josh becomes involved with a BMX race with some people that he wanted to make friends with and ends up hurting his true friends in the movie. I like the relationship between the native-American people, the white man, and the buffaloes in this one.

One of Disney Channel's Better Movies
theatre8113 March 2005
Warning: Spoilers
I really enjoyed "Buffalo Dreams." It has been a while since Disney Channel has produced a movie that has focused on cultures. I really liked how they had a family who did not know much at all about Native Americans move into a town that was primarily Navajo. It also gave the viewers a little more knowledge on how some Navajo live.

The casting for this movie was excellent. No one could have played Thomas like Simon Baker. He did a GREAT job. And Grahme Greene was a very good choice for the role of the grandfather. He is such a wonderful actor.

This was very well done and I recommend it to anyone who likes Disney Channel original movies.

Disney channel original

This D.C.O.M was awesome! Even though they got some info about the buffaloes wrong in this movie, i liked it more than i thought i would have. In this movie, Josh (Reiley McClendon) and his family move to New Mexico. Josh meets a native kid there named Thomas(Simon R. Baker), who doesn't want to be native, but on the other hand, Thomas's friend Moon (Max Van Ville) who wishes he could be. In the beginning, Thomas and Josh don't get along, but they begin to see that they have a lot in common and in the end, their friendship saved the whole town. I really liked this movie and hopefully, when you watch it you'd like it too. This movie might not be the best movie ever, but it is certainly one of the best D.C.O.M.

Buffalo Dreams

Warning: Spoilers
Buffalo Dreams was so much better than I thought it would be! I thought this movie would be a wild west movie but it was pretty cool. The main character Josh is a BMX rider and Thomas is a worker. Thomas, Scout, his little sister, and Moon must teach Josh how to respect the Navajo traditions. Thomas, who is Navajo, doesn't like his culture, while Moon, who isn't Navajo, wishes he could be. Scout can't talk, but she finally does in the end so she can save her brother from a terrible death. This movie shows how two different people can help each other in weird ways. People develop a lifetime of friendship in weird ways! Things happen in mysterious ways.

Rides with Buffallo
johnnymackb31 December 2005
I am the husband of Elva Nava, who played the stunt double for Scout in this film. I was there, and saw her riding so close to the buffalo who were herded by a helicopter. This is something we will never forget. It was totally insane, the crew deserves a huge credit for ensuring my wife's safety and that of the other stunt doubles. These were real, live, wild, viciously angry, raging, multi thousand pound, snorting, killers ready to trample whatever gets in their way, i.e. people making a movie.

You can clearly see her face in the group shots of the bikers. Also you can see some great side shots that to me are clearly Elva. Anyway, she looked just like Scout on camera even though she was 21 years old at the time. I hope to get a chance to see her do some other stunt parts. She is a real tough Latina. I hope you like her work.

Thanks,

Johnny-Mack Barlow

Buffalicious
hdeclaire25 June 2016
As a buffalo enthusiast, I was really excited when I saw the movie title when I was browsing for movies to watch. And it certainly did fulfill my buffalo dreams. I had such personal interest in this film that I decided to audition my own buffalo for roles in other low-budget western films. Sadly, they did not make the cut, but I am not bitter. In my opinion, these magnificent creatures were beautifully portrayed. As someone who owns several buffalo (including one domesticated buffalo), I found that the song "Lean On Me" does not help at all for herding purposes. Despite that disappointment, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and encourage other buffalo enthusiasts to have a look at this excellent film. Two hooves up!

Surprisingly Sensitive For A Disney Story
mimsies13 March 2005
Warning: Spoilers
A "fish out of water" plot has Josh moving to the middle of Dine territory where he meets Thomas, Moon, and Scout. He learns the importance of trust, friendship, taking responsibility and being true to himself through a series of mistakes, betrayal of his new friends, and making amends.

Thomas and his younger sister, Scout, also come to terms with their own past tragedy, and their places in their community and family.

I do not know how accurate the depictions of Dine culture are, but I know that The People and their culture are treated with dignity and respect.

Especially touching are performances by Simon Baker (Smoke Signals) and Tessa Vonn (Stealing Innocence)

A surprisingly good made for TV movie from Disney.

What a beautiful film, everything very cute...
RosanaBotafogo17 December 2022
A boy newly arrived in New Mexico starts working on a buffalo reserve to earn money to ride his bike. There, in addition to breaking cultural barriers to make friends with the residents of the reserve, he will have to face the local troublemaker in a mountain bike competition.

What a beautiful film, I love films with the culture of the North American natives, here we have the contrast of traditions versus the contemporary, but most importantly the appreciation, the local roots, the love for nature, beautiful images, legends told from parents to children, simple and engaging script, captivating characters, everything very cute...

My daughter loved this movie she was 5 years old when she first saw it. I want to buy it for her, where can I purchase it at? I would love to purchase this movie however when I went to the website it said it was not available on DVD. I tried every possible search engine to figure out how to buy it, but there was no information on where or how to purchase it. Please let me know how I can buy this movie. It's a great movie and my daughter is now 7 years old and mentioned the movie to me again the other day and asked if I had seen it on TV. She would love to see this movie again. Please let me know when it will be released or where I can purchase it at. I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you in advanced your assistance. Marie
