Here at Dread Central we are supporters of all beliefs. As long as you don't try and push your stuff off on us, hey, whatever gets you through the day... even if you believe that one day you're just gonna magically go poof into thin air.
Deadline is reporting that Johnny Pacar (Flight 29 Down; pictured right) has joined The Remaining to play the lead Tommy in the movie. The character has a crush on his best friend’s fiancée in the feature. Donnie Darko producer Casey La Scala is directing, and Brad Luff is producing the Sony horror film. The Remaining features a Rapture-like event in which certain people are left behind to fend for themselves while the rest of the world... well... let's just say there's now a shortage of living and breathing people.
The flick is set to start shooting in North Carolina soon. More as it comes.

Magnet Releasing is one of those companies that horror & genre fans love. They do right by us by acquiring unique films and releasing them via VOD prior to a theatrical release. Then, if you miss those releases, soon after, they hit DVD, Blu-Ray and, usually, Netflix. Playback is one of those films that I meant to check out but never got the opportunity. However, since it is Magnet, I should have plenty of options to watch it now.
From the Press Release:
On May 8, get ready to venture to your voyeuristic side when Magnolia Home Entertainment releases Playback under the Magnet Label on Blu-ray and DVD. Based on the prequel novella, “Playback: Light and Shadow,” the “original and entertaining piece” (Gashe.com) features Christian Slater (Bobby, Very Bad Things), Johnny Pacar (Wild Child, Discovery Kids’ “Flight 29 Down), Toby Hemingway (Black Swan, Feast of Love), and Amber Childers (“All My Children...

The joint-venture TV network that will replace Discovery Kids has hired Margaret Loesch, a family-programming veteran, to lead it as president and CEO.
Loesch, who helped create Fox Kids Network and has been involved in the development and production of such shows as "Animaniacs," "Smurfs" and "Bear in the Big Blue House," starts Aug. 17.
Loesch said the still-unnamed new company, a joint venture between toymaker Hasbro and Discovery Communications, will operate from Los Angeles and that she will be hiring about 50 people during the next year.
Maryland-based Discovery Kids will survive as an international brand but will cease to exist in the U.S. by about the middle of next year, replaced by the new joint venture.
On Thursday, Loesch notified the Hatchery, a family-media company she co-founded, that she will be stepping down as CEO in four weeks. She will finish her duties as executive producer of the TV movie "Christmas in Canaan,...

NBC and Discovery Networks are ending their four-year arrangement to program the Saturday-morning kids programming block. The network is pulling the plug on Discovery Kids in September, ending the rent-out of the block to the cable company, which provided series repurposed from its Discovery Kids channel, including Darcy's Wild Life and Flight 29 Down. NBC and Discovery confirmed they were no longer in negotiations, but declined further comment. "We were delighted with the partnership with NBC and it helped us build our brand in amazing ways," said a Discovery spokesman. "It made sense to focus our efforts on the channel now."...
