Being presumably the most recognized action star of the 21st century, Jason Statham made his name known around the world with such staples of the genre, as Crank (2006), The Mechanic (2011), Wrath of Man (2021) and, of course, the Fast & Furious franchise.
Disappointingly, his last movie rated 70% or higher on Rotten Tomatoes was the 2015 hit Spy. Since then, Statham starred only in critically panned or even commercially failed flicks, however, this year Amazon released a movie that changed that trend
The plot revolves around Statham’s Adam Clay, a former secret agent who is enraged by the suicide of his landlady, caused by the loss of her charity's funds to a phishing scam.
Urging for revenge, Adam sets out a campaign against those responsible for that scam, and this operation promises to take on national stakes, as the guilty ones acknowledge he was a member of a powerful clandestine organization.

The Hulu series We Were the Lucky Ones takes place during one of the most harrowing periods of the world, the war that plunged the world into chaos and death. With the Holocaust of the Jews, there was certainly no denying that the Nazis had lost their humanity. Perhaps V from V for Vendetta was indeed right when he called ideas bulletproof. It was certainly an idea that indoctrinated an entire generation of youth to commit atrocities, and a similar idea continues to propagate hatred throughout the world as we know it.
This period drama about the bitter ordeals that a Jewish family goes through is heartbreaking; however, considering the recent political climate around the world, it feels very much like a premonition of the future. Perhaps history indeed repeats itself and the human race is stuck in this loop of violence, a never-ending cycle of hatred that further aggravates...

While the Marvel Universe continues to chug along and James Gunn attempts to resuscitate the DC universe into something worth watching, we will yet again go back to the world of graphic novels for our inspiration on book vs movie. It’s really a very untapped realm as there are so many good horror comics out there, many without adaptations yet. The ones that have been adapted are very fun and interesting. Today is the mostly forgotten early 2000s movie From Hell (watch it Here), which is based on the stunning and epic graphic novel from famed wizard and all-around cranky dude Alan Moore. Like many graphic novels, the journey to page and then screen was a long and arduous one. It is based on the very real killings in Whitechapel that were later attributed to Jack the Ripper. While both have a lot of truths to them along with...

Actress Natalie Portman has shared that she used to find dressing up for awards ceremonies “oppressive”. Since having children, the actress, who has Aleph, 12, and six-year-old Amalia with husband Benjamin Millepied, loves the chance to leave behind her sweatshirts and get dolled up, reports ‘Female First UK’.
However, this wasn’t always the case. The actress, who is known for ‘Black Swan’ and ‘V for Vendetta’, used to feel like women got the short straw of having to look their best whilst the men got to “roll out of bed” and wear comfortable clothes.
Speaking on the ‘SmartLess’ podcast, she said: “You know, I used to think it was kind oppressive and like why do women have to spend all this time and discomfort and you know the men get to like roll out of bed and wear something they’re warm in and like aren’t, you know, sucking...

The Wachowskis' 1999 cyber-thriller "The Matrix" took the world by surprise. Although cyber-thrillers and V.R.-inflected sci-fi films were de rigueur throughout the '90s, the Wachowskis' unique blend of black-trench coat cool, overloaded action, and trippy pop existentialism shook the zeitgeist in unprecedented ways. The premise was powerful: in the distant future, humanity will be enslaved by intelligent machines and bodily stuffed into goopy cocoons. The electrical impulses in human brains are used by the Machines as a power supply, and every human being has a needle plugged into their skulls. In order to keep those impulses pulsing, the Machines have created an elaborate virtual reality for its living batteries, an electric realm called the Matrix. The Matrix is what you or I might call "the real world."

There’s a lot to watch on Prime Video in October and, as you may have guessed, there’s spooky stuff galore in amongst Prime’s usual rotation of extensive library content.
In the movie Totally Killer, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina star Kiernan Shipka travels back in time to the 1980s to stop a serial killer. Then there’s Make Me Scream, a Halloween special that challenges celebrities to “a gruesome game of terror.” Renfield will also be streaming on the service for anyone who’s been dying (muahahaha!) to catch the Nic Cage Dracula film.
Outside of Prime Video’s more creepy fare, Shazam! Fury Of The Gods will debut, Upload will be back for a third season, and new film Awareness should scratch your sci-fi itch. Meanwhile, for Frasier heads – those who consider themselves utterly Frasier-pilled – all eleven seasons of the Cheers spinoff show will be streaming at the touch of a button.

Artificial Intelligence is a big sticking point in the current Hollywood strikes. Author and actor Stephen Fry understands why, as he’s been victimized by an AI version of his voice being used in a documentary without his participation.
Speaking at the CogX Festival in London on Thursday, Fry played a clip of an AI system mimicking his voice to narrate a historical documentary.
“I said not one word of that—it was a machine. Yes, it shocked me,” he said. “They used my reading of the seven volumes of the Harry Potter books, and from that dataset an AI of my voice was created and it made that new narration.”
Fry was the narrator on the Harry Potter books in the UK.

Alan Moore no longer receives royalty cheques from DC Comics for films and television series based on his comic books and instead asked the company to give the money to Black Lives Matter. The 69-year-old English author - who is responsible for creating iconic comics such as 'Watchmen', 'V for Vendetta', 'Batman: The Killing Joke' and 'From Hell' among others - is unhappy with the direction that DC has taken with the film adaptations of their characters and so has given up his payments to BLM, the organisation which was founded in 2013 and aims to highlight racism and inequality experienced by black people. Black Lives Matter came to prominence during the 2020 protests that occurred in the wake of the death of George Floyd, who was killed whilst being arrested by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin.Speaking to The Daily Telegraph newspaper, Moore...

Alan Moore is turning down any compensation for film and TV series based on his comics. The “Watchmen” creator, notoriously outspoken about adaptations of his work, told The Telegraph that he instead wants DC Comics royalty checks sent to Black Lives Matter.
“I don’t really feel, with the recent films, that they have stood by what I assumed were their original principles. So I asked for DC Comics to send all of the money from any future TV series or films to Black Lives Matter,” Moore said.
Moore has long been critical of screen versions of his comics. Last year, he slammed the HBO and Warner Bros. TV series “Watchmen,” adapted from his 1986 graphic novel. Creator Damon Lindelof sent Moore a letter ahead of production admitting to “destroying” the original comic for his HBO series. Moore alleged that he was unaware HBO was even developing a “Watchmen” series at...

Alan Moore, the comic book visionary best known for writing such revered works as “Watchmen,” “V for Vendetta” and “Batman: The Killing Joke,” revealed to The Telegraph that he is longer accepting royalty checks from DC Comics for films and television series based on his works. He’s asked the company to instead reroute these checks to Black Lives Matter.
The Telegraph asked Moore if reports were true about him taking all of the money he makes from film and TV series and dividing it among the writers and other creatives, to which the writer answered: “I no longer wish it to even be shared with them. I don’t really feel, with the recent films, that they have stood by what I assumed were their original principles. So I asked for DC Comics to send all of the money from any future TV series or films to Black Lives Matter.

Before author J.K. Rowling — on whose book series the films are based — said some awful, unforgivable, transphobic things, the "Harry Potter" franchise hooked audiences around the world. As someone who used to stand outside bookstores for the midnight launches of "Harry Potter" books, I can tell you that I was totally hooked.
For those who weren't into the books, the craze must have seemed bananas. People wandering around Universal Studios Hollywood's Wizarding World in the hot California summers, dressed in polyester wizard robes, waving their wands at walls ... well, we all looked nuts. If you didn't love the series the way fans did, the budget alone for these films would make a person cringe.
British actor Sir John Hurt, who played wand shop owner Garrick Ollivander, had some rather disparaging things to say about how much money was spent on these films, though put in context, it makes sense.

"Stranger Things" season 4 was chock full of big moments. We learned about the origin of Eleven's (Millie Bobby Brown) powers, got a powerful performance from Sadie Sink as Max, remembered the majesty that is the music of Kate Bush with the song "Running Up That Hill," and more. On top of all of that, we also got a side plot where it's revealed that Hopper (David Harbour) is alive and in a Russian prison, complete with bruises and an on-camera head shave.
What you saw was not CGI. In fact, there was nothing fake about it at all. Harbour did get his head shaved on camera, and as you probably know, you can only do that once, so you'd better get it right. While it may not have been as dramatic as, say, Natalie Portman getting her head shaved in "V for Vendetta," it was still a dicey proposition...

Nothing looms larger in The Who’s artistic mythology than Pete Townshend’s unfinished “Lifehouse” project, a science fiction rock opera motion picture guaranteed to rock the world. Granted, we wouldn’t have Who’s Next (1971) if he completed it, but we can only imagine what the final product might have been on the big screen. Fortunately, there will soon be a way to see for ourselves in a new format.
Image Comics will publish Life House as a graphic novel on Dec. 6, and a vinyl-shaped hardcover will be part of its musical accompaniment: the Who’s Next/Life House box sets, dropping on Sept. 15. The cumulative story is not just for Who fans. The sci-fi community may have a future classic on their hands.

A new trailer starring Sir Ben Kingsley has been released for ‘Daliland.’ Coming from the director of ‘American Psycho,’ delving into a crucial period during the later years of legendary artist Salvador Dalí.
Amongst the decadence of 1970s New York, the great surrealist artist, Salvador Dali, enjoys the latter stage of his career with a lifestyle filled with luxury and extravagant parties. Surrounded by his decadence, and his band of eccentric followers who worship his charismatic persona, he is content with avoiding a fast-approaching art show and the demands of his formidable wife, Gala.
The story is told through the eyes of James Linton, a young gallery assistant, keen to make his name in the art world. After quickly becoming enraptured by the provocative world of Dali, the façade begins to fade when he uncovers that behind the glitz and glamour lies a fragile genius, haunted by the past and...

She’s been nominated for seven BAFTAs (winning one), seven Golden Globes (winning two), a couple of Oscars and an Emmy. She’s worked with armfuls of top directors including Steven Spielberg, Tim Burton and David Cronenberg. And 40 years ago, she created one of sitcom’s best-loved characters as the capricious Queen Elizabeth (Queenie to her pals) in Blackadder.
And now Miranda Richardson has proven herself so good she’s been cast not once but twice in Neil Gaiman’s Good Omens, first playing Madame Tracy in series one, and now taking on the tailor-made role of Shax, who becomes Hell’s representative on Earth after Crowley (David Tennant) gets fired.
What better time to revisit some of Miranda Richardson’s most memorable performances, from her impressive film debut in Dance With a Stranger to her more recent appearances in Harry Potter and Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None?...

The San Diego Comic Con has become a hotbed for reveals of many panels such as ‘The Continental’, ‘Mortal Kombat Legends: Cage Match’ and most recently, a new ‘Watchmen’ animated movie which was announced by DC and is slated for a 2024 release.
The reveal was made after a screening of ‘Justice League: Warworld’ where DC went on to reveal that next year will see the release of a new ‘Watchmen’ adaptation along with ‘Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths’.
Director Zack Snyder back in 2009 had done an adaptation of the graphic novel in a live action movie which was followed by a 2019 sequel series.

I don't remember what the first R-rated film I ever saw was. I know it was fairly early on, probably around age eight or nine, and it was not some plan I'd concocted to see one or anything like that. Sometimes you just happen upon an R-rated film as a kid, and even though I had parents who were fairly protective about what I watched growing up, that kind of thing just happens. I do vividly remember the first R-rated film I saw in a theater was: "V for Vendetta." I was 12 years old, and I can still picture the bargaining conversation between my dad, my uncle, my two years older cousin, and I about seeing it opening weekend in March 2006. I got to go, and one week later, we had the same conversation about Spike Lee's "Inside Man," which I also successfully went to. After that, the guardrails were off.

The original Max series “Full Circle” debuts on July 13. Directed by Steven Soderbergh, the new drama investigates a kidnapping gone wrong in New York, revealing the secrets and lies of multiple characters. Or as the trailer warns: “Everything is connected.” The six-episode limited series stars Zazie Beetz, Claire Danes, Jim Gaffigan, Jharrel Jerome, Timothy Olyphant, and Dennis Quaid.
Watch the “Full Circle” trailer:
The four-part documentary “Last Call: When A Serial Killer Stalked Queer New York” is set in the early 1990s as the AIDS crisis worsens. The media’s distorted coverage of the gay victims, coupled with the homophobic biases of the criminal justice system, undermine the investigation. The docuseries — which premieres on Max on July 9 — illustrates how the LGBTQ+ community fought to solve the murders and demand attention for those murdered.

A lot has happened since the turn of the century. We at Den of Geek can certainly attest to that as we’ve seen the movie industry change and grow, embrace streaming, and pivot toward intellectual property. Yet even as our present stays in a constant state of flux, our fascination with the future remains unwavering.
What dreams may come in 15 years? Or 30? Or a hundred as technology evolves and its relationship with humanity is renegotiated?
If you told a room full of geeks 20 years ago that the 2020s would be a world filled with smartphones and tablets, social media-shaped democracies, and something called “TikTok,” they might think you’d written a sci-fi movie. Still in that upheaval, we saw some pretty good science fiction stories come out in their own time, both Hollywood blockbuster big and intimately indie; iconic and underappreciated.

Natalie Portman is looking back on “Léon, the Professional.”
The 1994 film, helmed by Luc Besson, stars Portman as a young orphan who was mentored by a professional hitman (Jean Reno) after her family is murdered. Portman was 11 years old when she was cast in her film debut that had undertones of a sexual relationship.
“It’s a movie that’s still beloved, and people come up to me about it more than almost anything I’ve ever made,” Portman told The Hollywood Reporter, “and it gave me my career, but it is definitely, when you watch it now, it definitely has some cringey, to say the least, aspects to it. So, yes, it’s complicated for me.”

Natalie Portman was ready to make fun of herself when she appeared Tuesday on “The Late Late Show.” In seven minutes flat, Portman and James Corden cycled through some of the A-list star’s biggest roles. And no matter what Corden curve ball threw at her, Portman was prepared.
The segment started with Corden trying out his best moody Zach Braff impression as he reenacted “Garden State.” But it quickly became Portman’s show the second she donned Queen Amidala’s iconic wig from the “Star Wars” prequels. In rapid succession, Portman was decapitated (“The Other Boleyn Girl”), had her head shaved (“V for Vendetta”), was hit by a car (“Closer”), attacked Corden-as-Mila Kunis (“Black Swan”), took control of the legendary Mjölnir (“Thor: Love and Thunder”) and beat up some aliens (“Mars Attacks!”). Overall, the clip covered 21 of Portman’s films. Not bad for seven minutes.

Warner Bros. Studios is celebrating its 100 anniversary by opening its top-secret archives — to the media, anyway — to showcase its incredible collections of film props, costumes, vehicles and documents.
The studio started cataloging and preserving props in the ’90s and continues to add more select items from the films and television series that Warner Bros. produces. The archivists create a wishlist of items to keep from film and tend to prioritize items that are recognizable or iconic. Those include the recent additions of 3 versions of the Jokermobile from Suicide Squad.
The warehouse also holds memorabilia from The Matrix, Superman and Batman films. Ten Batmobiles as well as masks and costumes worn by the actors who portrayed Batman are sealed in a heavily-secured room dubbed “The Batcave.” There’s also a superhero room with all the DC characters’ costumes.

"Invincible," the animated series based on the hit comic book series by "The Walking Dead" co-creator Robert Kirkman, Cory Walker, and Ryan Ottley, was a major success for Prime Video. But what to read between seasons if you can't get enough of bombastic teenaged superheroics? Well, there are at least 14 different comic books that should scratch that itch, including both series that influenced "Invincible" as well as stories that have something to say about the world of superheroes — and the one we live in.
Of course, it goes without saying that one of the titles that should be on your reading list is "Invincible" itself. The series wrapped up in 2018, so it's a complete saga — just be aware that you'll be spoiling the rest of the animated series for yourself! That's hardly a problem, though; this is a story that's worth experiencing twice.

The connections between the "John Wick" franchise and "The Matrix" go far, far deeper than simply the Keanu Reeves of it all. Having worked as a stunt man and coordinator on the groundbreaking action films under the Wachowski sisters, "John Wick" director Chad Stahelski brought all sorts of knowledge and insights from his experience on "The Matrix" movies to the world of John Wick. From the extensive use of wirework to prioritizing convincing stunts pulled off by the actual actors to guns, lots of guns, it's fair to say that the two very different action-heavy universes possess quite a bit of shared DNA.
While some filmmakers might be eager to distance themselves from such obvious references, Stahelski, Reeves, and the rest of the creative team embrace the fact that the two franchises are so intertwined. After all, why else would we have gotten a reunion between "The Matrix" stars Reeves...

The first trailer for “The Flash” has finally arrived after much anticipation and shows Erza Miller’s Barry Allen coming face to face with himself in an alternate timeline.
Watch the trailer here:
DC Studios Chief James Gunn heralded the film and recently said, “I will say here that ‘Flash’ is probably one of the greatest superhero movies ever made.”
This sentiment jibes with consistently strong word of mouth out of multiple test screenings for the long-in-the-works feature, which was directed by Andy Muschietti.
Warner Bros. Discovery premiered the trailer during Super Bowl Lvii, and the studio last appeared at the Super Bowl back in 2006 when promo spots for “16 Blocks,” “V for Vendetta” and “Poseidon” aired throughout the big game.
