Dwelling on the past. (spoilers)

Corey Haim fans may be a little broken hearted after watching his E! True Hollywood Story. Corey Haim, born in Toronto Canada, broke into the movie business and became one of the most prominent teen stars of the 1980s, appearing in films like 'Lucas' and 'The Lost Boys.' Perhaps because he became too famous and too rich, too young, he was also too immature to deal with it and like other washed up former child actors of the time, got hooked on drugs and destroyed his career. He made many attempts to get himself clean, checking in one rehab clinic after another, and was even offered help by his fellow childhood actor friend, Corey Feldman, who at one time faced the same problems (but got himself clean).

He was never a great actor, but he was a great looking young man and always had lots of appeal (evident by the fact that people still await his comeback even after about ten years of failing to make any movies of any merit). And some people wonder, whatever happened to Corey Haim?

Well, as this episode shows, not much. Nearly thirty years old in this television special, Corey asks "What happened to most of my adult life?" It took him many years to finally get off the drugs, but in the meantime, consistently out of work and unable to get insurance (there was a lawsuit by Lloyds of London against Corey regarding misrepresentation), Corey got into a couple of scuffles with the law, and worse, went bankrupt. He even resorted to selling his hair and teeth on-line.

During this special, made before he moved back to Toronto, Corey was living in a sparsely furnished apartment with his mother in Santa Monica where we watch him playing around on a Casio keyboard or talking about his interest in painting. It is a pretty depressing finale to a pretty depressing tale about former child star Corey Haim.

What's more is, that in the shows closing, we are told that Corey was completing another round in rehab. But, shortly after the show aired, word got out that Haim had a stroke and went into a coma after taking drugs, yet again. And it looked like Haim might wind up dead in a few years (luckily, he hasn't as of this writing, and seems to have gotten himself clean for real this time). Now, nearly four years after Haim's E! True Hollywood Story aired, people on the messageboards are still wondering when Haim is going to make a comeback. Perhaps, it just time to stop dwelling on the past and move on. I was completely in love with Corey Haim, but maybe it's time that he find himself a real job and just be Corey Haim, average citizen with no incredible occupation.

This is a rather depressing story about the downfall of a former child star. But, it is a necessary cautionary tale for upcoming young actors about what not to do when you get famous.
