We're already less than a week away from the fifth season premiere of RuPaul's Drag Race, the reality competition that is officially funnier than Project Runway, fiercer than So You Think You Can Dance, and somehow more familial than The New Normal. The premiere party took place on Tuesday night at the Abbey in West Hollywood, and as Ru, Michelle Visage, and a blond, Dior-clad Sharon Needles (out of drag!) strolled the club, I snatched up quick interviews with three of the competing queens. Pleased to make your acquaintance, here are Monica Beverly Hillz, Penny Tration (!), and Vivienne Pinay.
Monica Beverly Hillz, 21, Owensboro, Ky
Your gold ensemble reminds me of Iman in the Michael Jackson "Remember the Time" video. What's your fashion inspiration?
Michael Jackson is legendary and I love his fashion, but first and foremost, I'm a huge Beyonce fan.
Oh, yeah? Did you like her "performance" at Obama's inauguration?...

Our favorite material girl Madonna has been touring the globe in support of her latest studio album, Mdna, and has posted an interesting behind-the-scenes clip of life on the road, titled “Inside the DNA of Mdna.”
Like her landmark documentary "Truth or Dare" and her "Reinvention Tour" doc "I'm Going To Tell You a Secret," the clip is in classic black and white. “I feel like my training wheels are being taken off before I’m ready,” she says just before her massive show in Rome (where she famously went on to moon the audience). “I feel like I’m going to crash a few times.”
The tour’s co-directors and choreographers appear just as stressed as Madge herself (if not more so, working to please one of music's most notoriously hard-working icons and all), and they all shout at plenty of dancers to get to their acts together.

If you've ever seen Madonna's 2004 documentary "I'm Going to Tell You A Secret," you know her young son Rocco Ritchie is a bit of a ham, and now, all these years later, Rocco looks to be following in his mama's footsteps as an entertainer and even joined her on stage as a backup dancer at the launch of her Mdna world tour last night at Tel Aviv, Israel's Ramat Gan Stadium.
The 11-year-old is clearly comfortable in front of a crowd – Madonna performed in front of sold out crowd of more than 35,000 screaming fans. Like his pop star mother, he seems comfortable with costume changes too, sporting three different looks during the show, including flowing, priest-like robes, a sparkling blue tank and headphones and an all-black number.
And while he may have gotten his looks from his father – he's practically a mini-me of film director papa Guy Ritchie...

Now hear this: I love Madonna. Always will. And that’s why I’m completely sensitive to her infuriating moments.
Recently, audio circulated of Madonna preparing for her new tour. In a short clip, she sings Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” as a mashup with her own, similar-sounding “Express Yourself,” as well as the pointed track “She’s Not Me.” Yes, it’s a cute and witty barb, one that’s meant as a gentle affront to Madonna’s heiress apparent Gaga, but I’m not laughing. I’m not exactly weeping either, but I’m more annoyed than titillated. It's just... not that funny? Or rather, too on the nose, petty, and not funny. For me, it’s of a piece with Madonna’s post-2005 career, a stretch where too much of her output and decision-making feels like the work of a canny assistant, someone who knows...

The Lady Gaga vs. Britney Spears battle continues now that Gaga's "Telephone" video director, Jonas Åkerlund, has been tapped to direct Brit's "Hold It Against Me" clip.
"Dance, dance, and more dance," she tweeted Monday about working with the veteran music-video director. "Getting ready to shoot the video for Hiam this week with Jonas Akerlund. Super excited!"
Åkerlund has directed a number of controversial videos over the course of his two-decade career. The Swedish auteur achieved mainstream success when he joined forces with Madonna to direct her video for "Ray of Light" in 1998. The duo reunited in 2000 for "Music," starring then up-and-coming comedian Sacha Baron Cohen, and they courted controversy in 2003 with Madonna's dark "American Life" clip.
He later worked with Madge on "Jump" in 2006 and "Celebration" in 2009. He also...

Lady Gaga and Beyonce in the "Telephone" video

The long-awaited debut of Lady Gaga's sprawling epic of a music video for "Telephone" has no shortage of stars, including Gaga herself, Beyoncé and Tyrese Gibson. But there's another key ingredient to "Telephone" that stayed firmly behind the camera lens: the video's director, Jonas Åkerlund.
From the late 1980s through much of the '90s, the 44-year-old Swedish filmmaker and video director spent his career working with Swedish acts such as Candlemass, Roxette, Sinclair and Whale. In 1997, Åkerlund made his first foray into the mainstream music video scene outside of his country in the form of "James Bond Theme" for Moby and "Smack My Bitch Up" for the Prodigy.

Pop queen Madonna regrets signing over the rights to her 1991 documentary Truth or Dare to distributors Miramax, because she has since had to pay to use footage from the movie - and made little money from the project. The singer has learned her lesson and signed lucrative television deals for her new tour documentary I'm Going To Tell You A Secret, after failing to secure a cinema distribution deal at this year's Cannes Film Festival. She tells the New York Daily News, "Unless you're Steven Spielberg, distributors take all your DVD rights. When I sold Truth Or Dare to Miramax, I got very little out of it. Just to use a clip of it in my new movie, I had to pay them like $7,000. It was thinking outside the box to have it shown on TV."...
