My Gym Partner's A Monkey was a show I watched back in the mid 2000's on Cartoon Network as a kid but I haven't seen it since 2014. The show was about a kid named Adam who goes to a Animal School meets Jake Spider Monkey Voiced By Tom Kenny and others Animals. The Show was On Cartoon Network From December 2005- November 2008 ending with the Thanksgiving Episode. Anyway the show was alright. 6/10

The show was funny in my opinion. It was well animated, written and voice acted. The show's about a kid named Adam Lyon (Nika Futterman) who gets accidentally transferred to a school that serves animals where he befriends a spidermonkey named Jake (Tom Kenny) along with several other classmates. The way this school is set up is cool. There're pipes that Adam and Jake use to get to class and it looks fun. The jokes are funny too. There's one episode where Adam saves a magic fish named David Coppertrout who offers to grant him a wish which causes him to get harressed by everyone who wants it. The voice actors have good chemistry. I like how they play off eachother. The show ended years ago but I still have fond memories of this show. It could be gross at times but aside from that it was still enjoyable. I'd say check it out.

Too be honest I really don't have many memories the few I do have are OK. I re watched some episodes a week ago just to see if it was any good and it wasn't terrible but it wasn't great either. I love Tom Kenny in it but that about it. So if you're bored or want to try something new then maybe you should try this show.

My younger brother (8) usually likes horrible shows (likes to watch Disney channel). I, being 17, usually watch his shows one time, dismiss it, turn off the TV, and criticize it. I was ready to do the same to this show. The premise is kind of silly; a young boy (Adam) with the last name of Lion is accidentally put into a school for animals. All of the animals can talk. It so happens that Adam is paired up in gym with a monkey named Jake Spidermonkey, and they soon become best friends. As you can see, the whole idea of the show can turn one off. I watched it, and I found it witty and clever and a bit crude. (SPOILER) During what i believe is the first episode, Jake stands over Adam in the school bus and squirts a yellow liquid at him. This sent me into a fit of laughter. Right after Adam freaks out, the scene zooms out and shows an apple juice box. That cracked me up as well. I highly recommend this show to anyone ages 5 to 18.

MY GYM PARTNER'S A MONKEY is an odd show featuring talking animals and a boy named Adam Lion.
Anywho, I got bored one time so I decided to go to Channel 36 which over here is Cartoon Network. And this show happened to be on and I seemed to enjoy it. It's slightly funny, but keep you watching.
I usually don't like the new shows on Cartoon Network except Camp Lazlo (only a slight bit), The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, and this show. Also, I usually don't like children television shows because it's lack of cussing, violence, etc.. But this one was okay.
I recommend this for parents to show their children if they are not too old to watch it and still think children shows are funny.. like the simple bong on the head or tripping..

I was a kid when this one aired and used to watch it after school. The nostalgic vocabulary for a time I wasn't alive in, some of the premises, and even the animation were some high points but a lot of the time it fell flat or a bit stale, even when I was a kid. There was some character acting and guest characters I liked quite a bit such as the nod to Samurai Jack with I Didn't, who was later renamed Larry, and recurring character, Principal Pixiefrog's dynamic with his secretary but it wasn't enough to really save the show. Fun to have on some of the time and a few catchphrases I still use to this day ("two words: soap"), but nothing more.
Not bad.

I liked My Gym Partner's A Monkey because of nostalgia and nostalgia is the best people can think of. My Gym Partner's A Monkey is not one of my favorite shows on Cartoon Network, but it was pretty good. I give it a 7.9/10
A show that had potential only to flush it down the toilet--a really grotesque one at that.

Similar to my experience with the Disney cartoon American Dragon: Jake Long, when I first heard about My Gym Partner's a Monkey, I thought to myself: "Huh. A cartoon about a normal human boy who goes to the same school with a group of anthropomorphic animals? Sounds like it could be a fun show." But when I watched the first couple episodes, I was wrong. . . . Man, was I oh-so wrong! I had never been disgusted by a cartoon's brand of humor since I don't know when. Rocko's Modern Life, Camp Lazlo, Brandy and Mr. Whiskers, Aaah! Real Monsters, and the Captain Underpants movie combined didn't have that much gross-out humor. But now, let me go over some bullet points.
Story: Again, I admit that I like the idea of a human kid going to a school populated with animals. Unfortunately, that's pretty much the only reason I give it two stars instead of one (similar to American Dragon).
Voice-Acting: Meh, it's pretty much average, and that's saying something considering there are a few big-name voice actors. Compared to other cartoons he's been in, Tom Kenny didn't really bring his A-game here--pretty much his PowerPuff Girls/Spongebob Squarepants game (and I hate those shows too).
Animation: I've seen worse animation, but for a 2000s cartoon, it's nothing to write home about. (Seriously though, what's with the main characters' smiles in it? Ugh!) And speaking of which...
Characters: I found nothing likeable about them, they're all gross, and I wish I don't remember ANY of their names. Moving on.
Humor: Oh. My. Word. Where do I even begin? Much like my problem of American Dragon and the main character's annoying dialogue (sorry to sound like a broken record), the gross-out/toilet humor used here is very off-putting. In the couple episodes I've seen, I keep getting multiple shots of the Spider Monkey's backside, and keep in mind, it is bare and flesh-toned. Do the creators of the piece of trash have a secret that they don't want to share with the world? Who thought looking at that would elicit laughs? Have the creators even seen a Spider Monkey, or did they confuse it for a Baboon? Speaking of which, Rafiki from the Lion King films and Timon and Pumbaa didn't look as offensive at that! And the toilet humor doesn't even stop there. Add extended periods of blowing out and sucking in snot bubbles, not to mention other forms of toilet humor that I can't remember, and we have ourselves one really gross cartoon. These levels of toilet humor are very off-putting and distracting to the point that not one single one-liner (if any, I don't remember) can even salvage it. Seriously, where's escapism when you need it most?
Over all, the ideas had been squandered to terrible humor, making it hard for me to ever want to look back on.

Great show that re-imagines what it was like to go to school

I actually love this show! It has a great premise and some creative re-imaginings of many tales from all our school days and even some new ones. Throw in crazy animal antics and you've got a winning formula. The voice acting is great and pays wonderful attention to the mannerisms of the animals. There is a plethora of wonderful character voices as well as those that recollect the usual suspects from school. (The deep, smart kid, the superficial popular crowd, the school bully, even the optimistically depressed guidance counselor).
Instead of having to just adjust to the rigors of middle school, poor Adam Lyon needs to adjust to an innumerable amount of different species that all have their own ins and outs that make day to day differences hilarious. Sure there are a lot of easy gags like fart or butt jokes, but I think I'm mature enough to admit that they're still funny....and always will be. Whether it's trying to fit in at the school dance, learning why it might not be okay to bring a hamburger for lunch, or competing against a dolphin in the school science fair, it will never be a dull day at Charles Darwin Middle School.---- Fart Jokes rule.

This show admittedly did catch my attention during the point where I was just about still in its target demographic.
I didn't really get into it but it was years later when I came across it again.
One reason was that one episode was linked in a forum about a fetish of mine (it's not a great example of it though but it's when Pixiefrog becomes human).
The other reason which got me watching was Nikka Futterman <3
Her voice has been in my life for ever (in practice since Mike, Lou and Og) and I discovered the name after her performance in Deadspace: Downfall.
Adam Lyon as a character definitely showcases her talent even if the show isn't really worthy of her.
It's tiresome to keep seeing Delisle, Lamarch, Lamarr and Macneill's names in credits but yet I always have time for Tom Kenny and it was fun to get to hear him doing his Spongebob voice for Jake the monkey but an octave lower and a lot less optimistic.
The concept of this show does feel a little desperate but a show is all about the execution which isn't amazing either. They're self aware about it though; at one point in season 4 after a particularly off the wall episode Jake says what I'm thinking when he asks "Remember when this show was about a boy in an all animal school?"
The world this is in is oddly fascinating but they never shine a light into it. It's a world in which non-humans exist as a linguistic community alongside but segregated from humans. Even insects can speak and yet they are served in the cafeteria.
They went for the jungle aesthetic within the school and I can get that. I liked how there are water tubes going in and out of the corridors and pillars of water in the classroom. In a world with individuals of such contractive shapes and sizes and abilities, the accessibility would have been a fascinating thing to explore but that's not the focus at all and Beastars handles that angle a lot better even if they were tetrapods only.
It's not about world-building, it's all about hijinks. The humor is nothing to write home about but it's disposable entertainment for the last thing before bed.
Windor Gorilla really grew on me but it's Principle Pixiefrog that steals the show especially his dynamic with world-weary secretary Miss. Warthog.
The element of Ingrid the Giraffe having her one-sided infatuation with the human Adam (Adam...get it?) was also agreeable, giraffes are special. The visual gag where her head is just almost always out of frame added something and didn't get old. Her head poking into the frame from the side was also a nice touch. It was cute watching the all huddle poolside, terrified of entry in their assorted swimwear, her head still not visible.
Lupe the very loud hispanic toucan I dare say has not aged well but then again, they never mentioned exactly which country she was from.
It was a fun idea that Jake the spider monkey is transferred to a school for plants because they thought he was a spider plant.
Often quite irksome as Adam gets chided for trivial things, there is a malicious quality to the first two seasons as they're happy to just end it negatively with no real sense of irony or karma. I hate that. AND girl scouts!!!
Oh and it's also kind of gross too.

My Gym Partner's a Monkey would've been executed well if the animals actually gave a LOT of respect to Adam Lyon, and treated him like he's the king of the jungle, like Tarzan. But nope, they just treated him like garbage. Yes, the animation, art, and voice acting are REALLY good, but compared to better quality shows on Cartoon Network back then, such as Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi, Camp Lazlo!, and the Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, My Gym Partner's a Monkey aged horribly.
Yes, it is interesting that the show was animated by Saerom, who also animated Flapjack and Regular Show, but this show never aged well. The only other character I liked was Kerry, because she actually CARES about Adam. Since the animals treat him like garbage, Adam Lyon doesn't even DESERVE to attend Charles Darwin Middle School. I really think it's funny when someone writes "I serious it Retarded of a cartoon."
Wha? This person cannot even write a simple sentence, yet they feel they can bash a show that is obviously superior to their own banal excuse for intellect - and I don't even know what that means.
Apparently they are not "Responsible" or "Dependable" or "Reliable" or "Not an Idiot". And what about CN being 90% cartoons? Umm. CN = Cartoon Network. Hmmm.
Maybe I have misjudged this person and really they are a comedic genius that deserves to be revered as sublime.

Another show that is ripped and made fun of it's target demographic. The whole premise is stupid, and it's like The Mighty B, but with other characters. The jokes are corny as expected, and the plots of the episodes are just that bland. There's nothing much in this show, nothing much of interest. Also, the animation is horrible, which is sad. By this time, western Canadian style can be complex too. This has something in common between this and Sidekick; both are the results of effortless viewership milking. Both have horrible presentations, artworks. In the case of artwork, this one has horrible animation.
Very terrible and really disgusting! Not to mention it is rather forced to be vulgar

For starters this show is basically a Cartoon Network rip off of the 11th to the 30th seasons of The Simpson's, not to mention Jake Spidermonkey was considered to be the most hated character in the entire series. Not to mention Adam gets constantly tortured for no reason of whatsoever and at the same time it has very stereotypical bullies like Bull Sharkowski and the spiffies are even annoying. Especially the leader who calls Adam Adumb which is the most mean-spirited thing to say and the show has bad morals like always get away with your bad actions, bullying, twerking, ETC. And also this show had 1 episode called "The Butt Of The Jake" that was BANNED after being broadcasted on the season 3 finale in 2007. In 2008 that episode got BANNED and replaced with "Dental Hijinks" in subsequent reruns.

There are two things that go through my mind when I watch My Gym Partner's a Monkey: 1) It is a cartoon 2) Comedy. I suspect if I were living in some bizzaro cartoon universe, anything is possible i.e. my jaw dropping to the ground, and my tongue dragging on the floor.
Back to the cartoon itself. As Jake's last name is Lion; subsequently he is shifted from a human school to an animal school. Basically Charles Darwin School is used to educate young animals. Again, this scenario could be possible in a cartoon universe. Jake Spider-Monkey and Adam Lion are best friends, and they get up to all sorts of stuff. One of my favorite episodes is, when the animals from Charles Darwin School, stayed at Adam's house for the night.
For a cartoon that has been produced on the cheap, I like it, because it is funny. If you want realism, well go and watch Nat Geo, or Discovery. It is a cartoon, Jake Spider-Monkey and Adam Lion can do anything they want, ranging from a talking Spider-Monkey, to being transferred to an animal school.
Nevertheless, my Gym Partner's a Monkey, could be a metaphor for school. Looking back at my youth, there is one place that could come close to a zoo, and that is high school, as the kids are out of control, and all the students are tearing each other to bits.
I have to give the my Gym Partner's a Monkey 8/10. That theme song is going to haunt me, until the day I die.
