SYDNEY -- If recent ratings for The Queen's Castle are any indication, the chances of Australia ever becoming an independent republic would appear fairly remote. Clearly the British royal family remains a source of huge fascination for the Commonwealth country, which still calls the Queen its head of state. A three-part documentary series, sanctioned by the monarch herself, The Queen's Castle offers an insider's view of a year in the lives of the residents of Windsor Castle. The show was produced by British distribution company RDF and came to the Nine Network through a first-look deal that also supplied Nine with Wife Swap and You Are What You Eat. The Queen's Castle premiered June 1 on Nine and attracted an impressive 1.32 million viewers to place 10th nationally, despite not airing in Adelaide. The program averaged 476,000 in Sydney and was the evening's top program there.
