Dianna Agron has come a long way since her days playing a rebellious, acapella-singing cheerleader on Glee. This year alone, she's portrayed a slick hacker in a dystopian not-so-distant future (The Crash), a conflicted nun, Sister Mary Grace (Novitiate), and her role in the upcoming crime thriller, Hollow in the Land, may be her darkest and grittiest yet.
In this exclusive clip, Agron's Alison sets out to uncover the truth when her brother is involved in a brutal murder, but is warned by The Twilight Saga's Rachelle Lefevre not to play amateur detective: "I don't want to see you get into something you can't back away from."
Vertical Entertainment
Hollow in the Land marks the feature directorial debut of Scooter Corkle (who, fun fact, was a grip on Air Buddies -- talk about versatility!), who says of casting Agron, "Dianna has this natural ability to just pop into character. She's got this bubbly, excitable energy always...

With Run The Series, The A.V. Club examines film franchises, studying how they change and evolve with each new installment.
Compared to some of their more crass kids’ movie counterparts, the Air Bud movies are relatively digestible. They’re not trying to sell anything—save for their own interminable sequels and spin-offs, which have now grown to include the Air Buddies series, the Santa Paws series, the Pup Star series, the Mvp: Most Valuable Primate series, and a smattering of ape- and/or dog-related movies unrelated to the rest of the Air Bud franchise. (We’re sticking with the original five for our purposes.) They encourage kids to go outside and play sports, which is nice, if shame-inducing if one happens to be a full-grown adult sitting inside and watching these movies in air-conditioned comfort all day. And animals doing people things, as five minutes on YouTube will prove...

Is The Asylum’s Santa’s Little Yelpers a hidden Poundland Christmas gem? Er, read on to find out…
Santa’s Little Yelpers (originally: Golden Winter, a name presumably changed to avoid sounding like something a sexual deviant would pick from the menu of a shady massage parlour) is a Christmas kids’ film made by The Asylum.
The Asylum, as a rule, does not make good films. Appreciating that, among the knock-off ‘mockbusters’ and Netflix-plumping mega-monster flicks, might there sit a shiny gem of a Christmas picture? A movie, yes, written in under ten days for less cash than the average parent spent on Minions Kinder Eggs this summer, but a real bobby-dazzler nonetheless?
No.
To begin with, Santa’s not even in it. That means the titular little yelpers—Rory (likes jumping out of boxes), Snoozer (narcoleptic), Tinkle (incontinent), Jumper (no discernible character traits) and Scarf...

American Sniper meets Lassie? We take a look at Max, which has quietly slipped into UK cinemas...
It feels like the dog movie might have had its day. Although we still get a few films every now and then where a canine performer plays a pivotal character, this once-booming genre bracket is largely reserved for the booming direct-to-video market- Disney's Air Buddies spin-off franchise is going strong and as of 2014, the Beethoven saga is up to its eighth instalment (and its fifth to skip cinemas.)
The unusual logline for Max appears to be 'American Sniper meets Lassie', but it's not without charm. With staggering earnestness, it plays out the tale of a Belgian Malinois called Max, (played by Carlos) whose Us Marine handler Kyle (Robbie Amell) is killed in action while apprehending a suicide bomber during Operation Enduring Freedom.
Brought back to the States from Afghanistan, Max has suffered...

Gravity is a game-changer that makes a swath of films seem redundant. Here are seven earlier movies that broke the mould – and one that didn't
Every now and then a film comes along that totally changes everything: whether it is expensive new technology or a cute talking pig, nothing can be the same again. Gravity is the latest film that makes a whole swath of cinema look and feel redundant: its hard-won sense of documentary realism means everyone attempting to film a spacewalk or satellite explosion will have to raise their game massively. This is by no means a definitive, historical list – you would have to go back to the Lumière brothers for that – but we have narrowed it down to the seven films that have made the biggest impact on movies in their current form and obsessions.

Another day, another Disney reissue. Yet this time around, it’s not just a simple DVD reissue with Disney FastPlay being the only new addition. The good people at Buena Vista have now included a whistle with Air Bud emblazoned across it for the release of Air Bud: Golden Receiver. But as they say on QVC, “that’s not all.” Those yapping, cuddly puppies, Air Buddies, return for a corny sports commentator skit where they provide play-by-play and color for the final game in the film.
Air Bud: Golden Receiver is the 1998 sequel to the 1997 hit Air Bud, which followed a basketball-playing pooch. This time around, the dog plays football but that’s really the only difference between the original (well, besides a new dog. Sadly the original K9 passed away before production on the follow-up began). The story centers on young Josh Framm (Kevin Zegers) who becomes angry when his mother,...

Continuing the money-making franchise that started with Air Buddies, Santa Buddies is a Christmas movie you might want to be a Grinch about and pass by. The dogs that talk include Butterball (Voiced by Josh Flitter), B-Dawg (Skyler Gisondo), Buddha (Field Cate), Rosebud (Liliana Mumy) and, of course, the new kid, um, pup in town, Puppy Paws (voiced by Zachary Gordon). I never watched any of the original Buddies movies, so I might not be the person to write this review. However, my sons loved Space Buddies and now they adore this one. My oldest said to give it 5 stars, but I am not going to go that far. But you can probably deduce that kids...

Stretch too thin. Bend it until it breaks. Overstay your welcome. All are different ways of describing something which goes too far with too little. Some parents will say they like the entertainment the original Air Bud provided for their tots. They may even have been down with Bud’s football-based sequel. But can any of them say that they honestly don’t mind the annoying personas of the five golden retriever pups which comprise the “buddies”? If the Air Buddies premise, the talking puppies of Air Bud, wasn’t the straw that broke the camel’s back, then Space Buddies was. So what does that make Santa Buddies? Shameless. Unabashedly shameless marketing using Christmas and dog jokes that haven’t been funny since your kids read them aloud from that joke book you bought for them (rookie parent mistake).

Continuing the Bud franchise after 2006 saw the spin into the Buddies series, Santa Buddies: The Legend of Santa Paws adds a holiday installment to the talking dog line. Air Buddies cornered the live-action direct-to-video market when it came out, and the follow-up Snow Buddies became the best-selling live-action direct-to-dvd title of all time. There's something about these little puppies, and the kids are going to enjoy this one. Up at the North Pole, Santa Claus and Santa Paws are faced with a lack of holiday spirit, which is causing the magic that runs things to fade. Meanwhile, Puppy Paws (Santa Paws' son) is fed up with all this Christmas business anyway, and wants a chance to just be a regular dog. Yes, it's the same old story. As the Santas go over the naughty list, Puppy Paws finds a chance to visit a regular dog and have some adventure. Guess...

I suppose it would be prudent of me to say upfront that this DVD is a rip-off.
Air Bud: Special Edition is not so much a special edition as it is a gift rerelease. Like taking something old and giving it to someone bundled with a homemade cookie. You’ll find that this DVD is a barebones one with a total of one special feature (not counting trailers, which really shouldn’t count at all), but wait! It includes an "Air Bud" dog tag in the set, so that totally makes up for it.
Originally released in theaters in 1997, Air Bud was a movie made solely to show off the basketball skills of Buddy the Dog (who did the tricks in real life) by creating the typical boy-meets-dog scenario around him. You know what’s impressive? Aside from being a dog that plays basketball, Buddy was also cozy with the camera.
