Afternoon Kids Fun
clay-12 March 2006
Nobody here in Ontario recalls the show except for me. I used to watch it for about 2 months every lunch time when I was 10 yrs old and going to school. After dad fed me lunch I would run downstairs to watch it, Then after the 2 months were over I never saw the show again which made me quite sad at the time. From what I can recall the show involved a group of about 6 or more youths at a summer camp. One was a fat kid who got a cold. I recall he came back to camp with the cold and the kids thought it strange that he got a cold in the summer. His mother told him that these were the worst kind. Basically, it taught youths how to treat other people there own age. The fat kid got picked on a lot but the kids always learned about proper behaviour. I wish i knew where i could get copies of the show.

Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed High Feather, too. I think there were around ten episodes, and many (if not all) of them dealt with nutrition. I think it was an educational series with that purpose in mind. I saw a few episodes but I cannot remember too much about the show. I remember a character named Stan who was diabetic. In one show, he lectured one of the other kids (whose name I do not remember) about eating too many sweets. The kid became angry and thought Stan to be a hypocrite when he found peppermints that belonged to Stan. It was later explained to the kid (maybe by the camp nurse) that Stan needed to have candy around because of his condition.

I also remember the show. I used to watch it during the summer around 1985 or so. I remember there was this kid named Leo on the show. I can remember there being a summer camp or something. Itwas a cool show. None of my friends or anyone I have met seems to remember the show. I also remember it used to come on PBS. If seemed like the show was set in the 70's. The kids wore chuck's and short shorts with the stripes down the sides. I also remember tube socks and Afro's. I would love to see the old reruns of the show. I cannot remember any of the other cast members. I just remember this Leo guy wearing tight t-shirts and something about a water fountain outdoors.

For many years growing up, I had fond but faded memories of this short PBS series and every summer hoping they would show reruns. missed opportunity to not only release the show in a box set during PBS fund drives but a cast reunion anniversary special.
