We’ve had plenty of Lovecraftian cult simulators, so leave it to a developer like Crazy Goat Games to come up with a Lovecraftian city builder. Worshippers of Cthulhu is currently in development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam. The game will launch in Early Access in later this year, followed by a full release across all platforms in 2025.
According to the devs, since Cthulhu “tolerates nothing less than perfection”, the game will head to Early Access in order to deliver a “polished and immersive experience,” with the plan to “allow players to spend much more time with the game and go even deeper into the Cthulhu and city-building mechanics.”
As you might of expected, the story for Worshippers of Cthulhu has you leading the eponymous cult, with the goal of guiding your flock towards the ultimate goal of awakening Cthulhu. Every decision rests upon your shoulders; will...

In the year of our Lord Cthulhu 2024, it's abundantly clear what the general aims of the Blumhouse production company are: to make a variety of mid- to low-budget genre features that contain any sort of hook which will make a return on their investment. The 21st century's version of old exploitation companies like Empire International Pictures and New World Pictures, Blumhouse occasionally produces a breakout prestige genre film, but more often than not they're making, y'know, "Night Swim."
Not that that's a bad thing, mind you. Jason Blum and company know that horror fans love a balanced diet, happily taking their veggies along with their french fries. One of the most "french fry" movies Blumhouse ever made was 2018's "Truth or Dare," a film in which the most famous high school party game turns deadly once a supernatural element forces the players to either participate or forfeit their lives.

Among James Wan’s post-Aquaman projects is an adaptation of Hp Lovecraft’s The Call Of Cthulhu – and it’ll also be a videogame, a report suggests.
James Wan has succeeded in adding a fishy accent to the festive season with Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom, out in cinemas now. But it seems Wan isn’t finished with the salty depths – among the director’s various upcoming projects is an adaptation of Hp Lovecraft’s cosmic horror story, The Call Of Cthulhu.
Deadline, which mentions this in a broader report about videogame adaptations, describes it as a ‘dream project’ for Wan, and one the filmmaker’s “been quietly working on for five years”.
Originally published in 1928, The Call Of Cthulhu is a short yet highly influential tale about a mysterious sect that worships an octopus-like deity from the depths of time and space. The story was the starting point for the wider Cthulhu Mythos,...

Since Gloomhaven came along, with its ridiculous depth, 100+ missions and near-to-zero-luck gameplay, it’s been tough for other dungeon crawlers to make an impact. With most games in this genre relying on dice-rolling, random encounters and a load of other random factors, it’s tough to be taken seriously. However, when Eric Lang and Rob Daviau teamed up to bring us Cthulhu: Death May Die back in 2019, the outcome was destined to swing the dial back in favour of the classic dice and dungeons model.
Cthulhu: Death May Die has now been Kickstarted two or three times – with the latest round of crowdfunding set to begin fulfilment around December 2023. This latest run is set to introduce a new core set (called Fear of the Unknown), a Season 4 expansion, new Elder Ones and several other smaller expansions (Animal Allies and such) as well as a load of stretch goals. Tokyo Game Show 2023 has gotten its Lovecraft fix with indie solo developer Lawsquare133 and publisher Gamera Games’ point-and-click adventure game, Candlelight Lament. The developers unveiled a new demo for the game, which can be found on its Steam page.
Set in the Cthulhu Mythos of an alternate timeline, Candlelight Lament sees you take on the role of a renowned elderly professor called Ed, who ignores the city’s night-time curfews to visit friends, all the while searching for his missing granddaughter. As you explore through the game and the investigation progresses, a huge mystery behind recent large-scale disappearances becomes increasingly clear and its true nature turns out to be more terrifying than initially imagined.
Sporting a unique 2D hand-drawn monochrome art style that provides a visually pleasing aesthetic, the art aims to lend itself to the sense of dread found in Candlelight Lament. That dread is further reinforced thanks to the game’s branching narrative.

On "12 Monkeys," the 2015 TV series based on Terry Gilliam's 1995 feature film, actor Todd Stashwick played a character named Theodore Decaon, the leader of a dangerous band of scavengers and outlaws in the year 2043. Deacon only appeared occasionally throughout the show's first season, becoming a proper regular character for its remaining three. "12 Monkeys" was developed by Terry Matalas, who was previous a writer on "Star Trek: Enterprise" and "Nikita," and who would go on to write and/or showrun Syfy's "Blood Drive" and the network's new "MacGyver" series. Matalas is currently the showrunner for the newest season of "Star Trek: Picard." Not incidentally, Stashwick also appears on it.
On "Picard," Stashwick plays the gruff and plainspoken Capt. Liam Shaw, commander of the U.S.S. Titan-a. Unlike previous starship captains on "Star Trek," Capt. Shaw has no interest in being friendly with his crew. He doesn't establish trust,...

What Happens Next Will Scare You is the latest film from Chris Lamartina and Jimmy George who also gave us the Wnuf Halloween Special and Call Girl of Cthulhu among other films. It’s been taking a tour of the festival circuit and made a stop in Atlanta for this year’s edition of the Buried Alive Film Fest.
The plot, or should I say framework for What Happens Next Will Scare You is simple enough. As someone who has been a big fan of their previous collaborative efforts, I was extremely excited once I learned that Chris Lamartina and Jimmy George had yet another film project for us horror fans to enjoy. Their latest is entitled What Happens Next Will Scare You, and while I won’t give much away about it (because really half the fun of the film are all the little surprises), what I can say is that if you’re someone who has enjoyed the Wnuf Halloween Special and Call Girl of Cthulhu, then Whnwsy is going to be precisely your jam (as the kids say).
Currently, Lamartina and George have taken to Kickstarter to self-distribute What Happens Next Will Scare You, putting the film directly in the hands of viewers, and I thought the time was right to catch up with the duo to talk about their long journey of making Whnwsy,...

Platforms: Switch
Developer: Nintendo
Publisher: Nintendo
Genre: Platformer/Level editor
At first glance, Super Mario Maker 2 doesn’t look too different from its predecessor, but just a few minutes with it reveals a deeper sequel with even more customization option and deeper gameplay. This sequel is everything that was great about the first game but given new life on a much more popular platform.
The premise of Super Mario Maker is so simple that it’s a wonder Nintendo didn’t come up with it years ago. Take all the assets from Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, and New Super Mario Bros. U and give gamers free rein to make the levels they always wanted and share them online for other players to complete.

The Sinking City, the latest from Ukrainian developer Frogwares, is another interpretation of a classic novelist’s work. This time around, say goodbye to Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes and hello to Hp Lovecraft’s Cthulhu. The new window dressing is a welcome change, but the bad news is that we no longer have the world’s most famous detective at the helm. Holmes, with his neurotic proclamations and obsessive tendencies, is a character with so much to love. In Charles Reed, private investigator extraordinaire, we’ve got a dull-as-dishwater protagonist servicing a story that groans under the weight of Lovecraftian mythos.
Let’s start with the positives. The Sinking City is set in Oakmont, an island city neighboring Massachusetts. After a mysterious flood, hysteria has spread and the city streets are completely under water. Dilapidated American flags flutter sadly in the breeze and fungal growth lines the numerous riverways,...

Whether or not you know his name, H.P Lovecraft has had a rather significant influence on modern horror. The late 20th century writer is best known for his mastery of "cosmic horror," a sort of otherworldly and existential dread that injects deep, indescribable fear into your veins. Cosmic horror is hard to pin down, but something like 2018's Annihilation or even 1982's The Thing are great examples. Terrors that are almost incomprehensible in nature. Obviously, with such complex mechanisms at work in Lovecraft's writing, it should come as no surprise that his stories can be, in many cases, impossible to adapt. But that hasn't stopped people from trying!
Some of the most notable Lovecraftian adaptations include The Haunted Palace (1963), Re-Animator (1985), and Necronomicon (1994). More notable still are films that take great inspiration from his work. For instance, many believe that the monster from Cloverfield is based on one of Lovecraft's most iconic monsters,...

A new Skyrim mod plunges The Elder Scrolls into the realm of Cthulhu and Lovecraftian horror.
If you want to get back into Skyrim but remain disappointed by the game only offering teases of old-fashioned Lovecraftian horror, there's a new mod out there that might just make your Cthulhu dreams a reality with The Elder Scrolls.
Here There Be Monsters - The Call of Cthulhu is a Skyrim mod that's been in development for a few years now. It adds an end-game quest to the RPG that is vaguely based on some Lovecraftian story elements hinted at in Skyrim's Dragonborn Dlc (specifically, the "Here There be Monsters" quest). The premise here is that there's a cult in Tamriel that seems to be tied to the appearance of some horrifying new monsters and a series of troubling rumors. It's your mission, should you choose to accept it, to...

It’s a first-person detective game requiring sharp focus and a cerebral approach rather than quick reflexes, and while its inky, morbid aesthetic suggests heavy survival horror gameplay, the experience falls squarely in the psychological horror category, with your character’s sanity constantly threatening to unspool as you confront the main story’s cavalcade of horrors.

"...the story was originally written in serialized form for the pulp magazine "Astounding Stories" (1931), narrated by geologist 'William Dyer', a professor from 'Miskatonic University' who tries to warn against an upcoming scientific expedition to Antarctica.

For those of you who are fans of the Dune franchise and you're into tabletop gaming, we've got some exciting news for you! Legendary Entertainment and Herbert Properties LLC is developing a Dune tabletop RPG!
According to the press release, Gale Force Nine will produce the original tabletop games "drawing from the full scope of the Dune franchise—spanning the many publications from Frank Herbert, Brian Herbert, and Kevin J. Anderson—along with multiple direct tie-ins with Legendary’s highly anticipated film from director Denis Villeneuve."
It's pretty cool that the whole thing will also tie into the upcoming film that Villeneuve is currently developing. It's explained that there's a full range of tabletop games, including board and miniatures games that are slated to be released just prior to Legendary’s theatrical release of Dune in 2020. In addition, GF9 plans to align with other game companies in numerous categories and formats in the future.

Barbara Crampton takes on a devilishly fun role in Dead Night, now in select theaters and on VOD courtesy of Dark Sky Films. Also starring Brea Grant and Aj Bowen, the movie follows a family (parents played by Grant and Bowen) that heads to a remote cabin in Oregon and stumbles across a mysterious woman, played by Barbara Crampton, who is passed out in the snow. Unfortunately for the family, this mysterious woman is anything but helpless and the night quickly turns deadly.

The horror genre has had a particularly successful year both on console format and for the PC, we’ve seen big-name hits like Resident Evil 7 and the continuing innovation of the Outlast series, now onto it’s second installment. I personally enjoyed Little Nightmares, a dark whimsical narrative which stylishly attempts to play on our childhood fears. On the horizon, it looks like 2018 and 2019 will repeat the genre’s success in 2017, there’s an incredible amount of potentially jaw dropping and pant wetting horror games which promise innovative fun and shocking narrative.

H.P. Lovecraft was without a doubt one of the most influential writers of the 20th century. His creation of the Cthulhu Mythos, a shared universe of scary stories featuring insanity-inducing elder beings and unfortunate protagonists, revolutionized fiction, and the author’s formula for cosmic horror can still be seen in media to this very day. The Great Dreamer awaits your presence in a new E3 trailer for Call of Cthulhu, based on the role-playing game of the same name and coming out this year on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
"Plunge into the troubled mind of private investigator Edward Pierce, as his perception of reality becomes more and more skewed the closer he gets to the Great Dreamer’s sphere of influence.
Sent to Darkwater Island to uncover the truth behind a mysterious death of a family, your original assignment spirals out of control against a backdrop of suspicious locals, mutilated whales, and disappearing bodies.
Pierce’s mind will suffer - balancing a razor-thin line between sanity and madness, your senses will be disrupted until you question the reality of everything around you. Trust no one. Creeping shadows hide lurking figures…and all the while, the Great Dreamer prepares for his awakening.

For those of you who grew up loving it as much as I did, you’ll be pleased to know that The Real Ghostbusters animated series is now streaming on Netflix. The Real Ghostbusters began its run in 1986, two years after the release of the first film, and aired until 1991, with 140 episodes in total airing over the course of seven seasons. With five long years between films, this series was a godsend to rabid Ghostbusters fans and became an immediate hit.
Compared to other cartoons produced at that time, the look of The Real Ghostbusters had distinct anime touches and boasted a variety of awesomely creepy ghost designs and atmospheric painted backgrounds. The show also featured writing talent like J. Michael Straczynski, whose wildly imaginative and ambitious storylines made this series arguably better than Ghostbusters II, and, in some ways, indirectly affected elements of the sequel, as the appearance of...

Melding together genres seldom works. It’s a delicate balancing act; tone is key, and when either (or both) are off the whole thing can come crashing down. By 1991, HBO was already offering up original programming and decided to create a whole new sub genre – horror noir. The result was Cast a Deadly Spell, a very entertaining and perfectly concocted mixture of 1940s detective story and supernatural terror. And when the balance is right, like it is here, the results are sublime.
Originally airing on HBO on Saturday, September 7th, CaDS was met with critical acclaim as a riotous mashup of Bogart and the Dark Arts, treating audiences to a unique blend of murder and magic.
Let’s open up our sacred book of incantations, TV Guide, and see what we’re in for:

Focus Home Interactive and Cyanide Studio have debuted the latest and suitably creepy trailer for Call Of Cthulhu, the psychological horror title in the works for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
First announced all the way back in 2014, when Sherlock Holmes dev Frogwares was at the helm, Call Of Cthulhu is finally beginning to take shape ahead of its expected release later this year, and the trailer above teases the nightmarish journey that awaits. Players will assume the role of Edward Pierce, a private detective bound for Boston’s Darkwater Island. His mission? To solve the curious case of disappearing bodies and mutilated animals, so it’s little wonder that the game’s new trailer depicts Pierce’s descent into madness.

Fancy some terrific Stephen King horror short stories to read? Here are some recommendations...
Stephen King is a master of the short story, able to dish out horror tales to make your skin crawl, astounding sci-fi, and even literary reflections aimed at more "sophisticated" readers. He's done it all, with no sign of stopping.
Although I've had the tough task of picking 15 of my favorite King horror tales for this list, you should absolutely pick up All of his collections and give them a read through. You'll always find something to give you the chills.
Make a note: this is a list of short stories, not novellas. And on top of that, stories that are genuinely scary. I didn't forget "The Mist" or "N." or "Secret Window, Secret Garden" or any of those other goodies. Those deserve their own article, don't they?

H.P. Lovecraft’s influence can be felt in countless writers, musicians and artists who’ve followed in the “weird fiction” exemplar’s footsteps, but the author’s work has rarely been directly adapted. Bleeding Cool reports that this may soon change, as Legendary TV is said to be answering the call of Cthulhu and creating an anthology series based on 16 of Lovecraft’s best-known works.

The first two images from Call of Cthulhu, the official video game adaptation of Chaosium’s pen & paper RPG of the same name, have been unveiled this week. The images feature Darkwater Island,a disturbing place that players will have to explore during their investigation while Cthulhu, the Great Dreamer, prepares its awakening.
In Call of Cthulhu, players will control Edward Pierce, a former veteran and private investigator in 1920s Boston. Pierce will be investigating the tragic and mysterious death of Sarah Hawkins and her family in Darkwater Island. Today’s images give you a first glimpse of the locations players will have to visit: from the sinister docks, to the manor of the deceased family, Call of Cthulhu offers a dark and oppressive ambiance that shall pay tribute to Lovecraft’s work and universe. Indeed, this banal investigation might lead you to more sinister forces and darker secrets buried deep within Darkwater Island.

As with the previous releases in their Lovecraft Series, this beer is available on the East Coast in six-packs of 16-ounce tallboys for about $12.99 per pack.

Some believe it’s based on a terrifying truth, while others harbor the hope that it’s purely fiction, but what many can agree on is that for years the Delta Green role-playing game universe has offered endless hours of eerie entertainment. With a new wave of Delta Green projects now underway, Daily Dead recently caught up with Arc Dream Publishing co-founder and lead Delta Green editor Shane Ivey, who discussed the new RPG and much more in our latest (and in this case, Lovecraftian) Q&A feature.
Thank you for taking the time to answer some questions for us, Shane. For those that are unfamiliar, can you talk a little bit about Delta Green and its Lovecraftian history?
Shane Ivey: Delta Green was a secret unit that conducted psychological operations for the Office of Strategic Services in World War II. It was disbanded with the rest of the Oss after the war.
