The film footage of the experiment was one continuous take with practical special effects. Due to the amount of blood, only one take could be attempted.
All of the photos in the film were shot on a pair of vintage German cameras from the 1930s except for one, which was shot with a Polaroid camera and then enlarged on a photocopier. Inevitably this is the photo that audiences assume is vintage.
