Bipasha Basu, the sexy, feisty actress who is best known for being the epitome of desire on-screen and who previously did popular films such as Jism, Raaz, Corporate, Bachna Ae Hasseno and Aakrosh , has spoken out about the double standard in Bollywood.
Bips revealed exactly what she thought about the roles female actresses get and then some, in a recent and candid interview.
“In Bollywood, the opportunities for female actresses is very minimum. There’s not much choice for us except to be safe and look pretty and do some nice dance numbers. As a one off, you will get a film, which will be talked about in the context that ‘Oh! Women are getting into trend now! It’s going to be such a great time for female actresses’. The thing it is never.”
What about films such as The Dirty Picture? Surely that has got to have changed something?...

The feedbacks to the movie ‘Heroine’ are pouring in and it is dismal so far. The film is poorly rated by the critics and the movie buffs alike. It is a Madhur Bhandarkar film all right. The script includes a woman on top of her world, a cheating lover, conspirating friends, morale session classes, anti depressant drugs, fall from grace, tobacco and alcohol addiction. Sounds familiar? Well sadly it does. Madhur’s earlier films Chandi bar, Satta, Corporate, Page 3 and Fashion all spoke about women under similar conditions with the professional back ground being different. It was refreshing when the idea was introduced and entertaining ...

Madhur Bhandarkar is known for making films that offer up observational critiques of a particular industry, be it big business in Corporate, the fashion world in Fashion or his latest offering Heroine which tackles the dark underbelly of fame in Bollywood.
Speaking about the film recently to a leading daily newspaper, Bhandarkar explains that he approaches the film as though he is a reporter – attempting to present the facts rather than offering up solutions to the problems he brings up.
“If a subject intrigues me, I will go down to the very root of the matter. Some of my films do spread awareness. But I can’t give my film a reel (rather than real) ending just to provide solutions. I’ve always kept my films as real as possible, and that’s why I’ve created a niche for myself.”

After his incredible run of women-centric films from Chandni Bar, Page 3, Satta and Corporate to the blockbuster Fashion, Madhur Bhandarkar now turns his lens inwards and presents his most ambitious work yet – Heroine. The film is based on the life and times of a superstar heroine from the dream factory we call ‘Bollywood’. The film is a daring, shocking, glamorous, scandalous behind the scenes account of the reality behind the world of glitz and glamour that our film stars inhabit. For a country obsessed with films and film stars, Heroine will take audiences on a voyeuristic journey to see what really goes on behind the closed doors of make up rooms and vanity vans. It will give them a chance to go beyond the gorgeous smiles and politically correct quotes, to see what really happens in the lives of India’s sweethearts. The bitching and the politics, the secrets and the lies,...

Now that Utv has sorted out all the practical problems pertaining to Kareena Kapoor's return to Heroine, Madhur Bhandarkar has taken full charge of the creative aspects of the project once again. A source very close to the project tells us, Madhur has had two marathon sessions with Kareena over the layered and complex script. And the sessions have gone very very smoothly and to the advantage of both the parties (the director and the actress). Kareena initially had some strong reservations about the intimate sequences and about some of the verbal content of the character's space. All that has been amicably resolved. Says the source, "Over the two meetings Madhur and Kareena have sorted out all points of dispute in the script. Kareena expressed the same doubts about the content that she had when she left the film. Some scenes seem to replicate situations and people around her in real life.

24 hours have passed by since 'news break' happened around how Utv and Madhur Bhandarkar had gone out of their way to accommodate Kareena Kapoor by agreeing to pay her as much as Rs. 8 crores for Heroine. And that after the lady had apparently demanded Rs. 10 crores. However despite an official statement coming out pronto from Utv where the corporate house rubbished these rumours, they are still wondering aloud about the origin of this information. "This is more shocking than amusing actually", says a source attached to the film, "Aisa kahin hota hai kya? Rs. 8 crores? Come on, that's taking things a little too far. No heroine gets paid this heavily. Even when Aishwarya Rai was earlier on board, she had reduced her price and that too on an amicable note because she knew that the role was powerful enough. Why just her, even Arjun Rampal had agreed to do it at a reduced price.
