- While hacking a computer, Bentley says "Don't worry my pet, I'll make this quick and painless", which could be a BDSM reference.
- The recurring character of Carmelita Fox is an anthropomorphic Fox who leans heavily towards the human side with an "idealized" figure and clothing that usually exposes her midriff in addition to being lie cut. In one cutscene the new character Penelope sends Bentley a photo of herself that in reality is a cutout of her head attached to an image of a statuesque female character wearing a low cut dress.

- There are many more on-screen deaths and references to violent acts in dialogue compared to the previous games.
- During the whole game you will be "taking out" enemies.

- During the insult contest that Black Spot Pete holds to see if a disguised Sly is actually his old comrade, one of the insult portions the player can use is "grog-abusing".
- Dimitri, a purple lizard, does smoke a cigarette constantly. It only dangles from his mouth, and is constantly letting off smoke. He is never depicted with a cigarette again after he puts on his scuba diving gear.

- In China there are vampires that are praying mantis'. They can be slightly disturbing as they explode when you get too close to them.
- Some of Dr. M.'s beasts are frightening.

- One of the villains, General Tsao, forces a marriage between himself and the Panda King's daughter, Jing King (although it ends up backfiring).
Frightening & Intense Scenes
- Sly got a concussion by Dr. M and forgotten his memories. In the end credits, he actually faked his amnesia to be with Carmelita.
