Dispels a lot of myths
troywhigham1 September 2015
A documentary disguised as a reality show, this program follows select candidates as they wind their way through the audition, selection, and weeding-out process leading up to the first football game for the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, the most famous pro cheerleading team in America (the Raiderettes a close second, followed by the Laker Girls).

The first thing that will strike you about the show is how open the girls are about their fears and concerns, and how critical the coaches and selection committee are in determining which candidates survive each round of cuts. When a dancer is called into the office for her evaluation, you will be right there with her, sweating it out as Lisa and Judy critique her performance and tell her what to focus on for next time, if there is a next time for her. There's a reason why the DCC are the best in the business, and this show tells you why.

Granted, its not like watching football try-outs or practices, but then it's not supposed to be. Its closer to watching auditions for a chorus line in a major Broadway production. DCC has a "look", just like the Rockettes, and every girl on the squad has to match that "look". Too tall, too big, too thin, too small and she's out. Only 5 years of dance training? She's out. A girl has minutes to learn a complete routine. If she forgets a step, she's out. Criteria are high and the chance for failure is abundant.

It's what being a pro-level dancer is all about.

Just fine in the background

I don't care about the drama or the storyline. I watch it with the sound off, just like I watch beauty pageants. Crank up the stereo, kick back and have a beer or three.

Watch Kelly age backwards
amybourque26 June 2022
I just want her face care routine. Seriously she looks younger in Season 8 than she does in Season 1. Every season I pick a favorite to root for. And truly miss the girls if they don't make it or leave.

Great show

I hate the Cowboys, but love this show. These girls are tough and beautiful. The process is so much better and more enjoyable then Bachelor, and other reality shows

Abundance of beautiful women and real life drama
BridgeBuilder200627 April 2011
These episodes are packed with beauty and drama. The cheerleaders are obviously beautiful. The unfolding stories of how real the women overcoming obstacles to make it on the team provides engaging drama.

Watching these has given me a much greater appreciation for what goes into the making of such a world class performer.

There is a long and complex process from open auditions to the first football game. That includes many related parts that spans many weeks. The director did a great job of weaving together dozens of tiny clips in appealing ways.

I watched all the episodes of season 3 and 4. Three quarters of the way my attention shifted from the candidates to the leaders. I came to deeply appreciate the difficult and delicate work they do.

It was insightful to notice how the different factors go into making the complete package of a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader. You will need to see several episodes to understand what that means.

It was amusing to me as a man how the female leaders sometimes called the female candidates by three different terms: girls, women and ladies. This varied widely depending on the person and context.

These videos would be recommended for any female considering becoming a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader as well as their family, friends and coaches. It is amazing how unprepared many candidates were. Those who aspire to this job need to witness how hard the weeks of preparations are. Then maybe many will not even try out. And those who do try out will have previously gotten the needed instructions in dance, cheer leading and the other topics that are covered.

A coach of any sport could pick up insights into how to draw out the potential from an athlete.

Students and practitioners of sports psychology could gain much wisdom and many insights.

Cheerleaders and dancers have much to gain in terms of general inspiration and specific tips.

Old Dogs

They absolutely condemn a poor girl for wearing cutouts on a dress but yet they show boobs and butt..its time Dallas Cowboys get some young blood in there because these old girl coaches need to retire. They would never make it by today's standard. It's about time other NFL teams get other cheerleader reality shows. Dallas hasn't won a championship in how long...Boring!Let me say it again...They absolutely condemn a poor girl for wearing cutouts on a dress but yet they show boobs and butt..its time Dallas Cowboys get some young blood in there because these old girl coaches need to retire. They would never make it by today's standard. It's about time other NFL teams get other cheerleader reality shows. Dallas hasn't won a championship in how long...Boring!

Love It
rsayers-5083925 September 2019
I enjoy watching what these ladies go through to make the team. The DCC is the best team out there and everyone wants to be a part of it, but it takes a lot to make it. I applaud every single lady who has what it takes to make it onto the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.

You guys need to get over yourselves!
mrbodyboarder26 November 2011
I think this show is really great and not sexist at all. It's about making the cheer team for the Dallas Cowboys cheer leading team which is known for having beautiful cheerleaders that are excellent dancers and one of the best organized teams.

So what if she didn't make the team for not meeting the requirements? It should not matter the reason; it just means that they have a highly competitive cheer leading tryout. They have been doing this system for a long time so leave the decision to them.

I really recommend this show to everyone that is open minded. It is probably best for young adults. If you are a cheerleader/dancer/enthusiast/athlete, then you will definitely love this show! The reason I watch it is because my girlfriend is a cheerleader and she also watches it, we love watching it together!

I do not think this show is that sexist
amyklass1 November 2009
I disagree with the other poster here.

This show is basically a behind the scenes look at the making of the DCC team. What do you expect? It is a cheerleaders JOB to look pretty and dance well, etc. I do not think this show is sexist because it is only doing what the job requires it.

Just like a successful doctor requires certain attributes, just like a successful ballet dancer requires certain attributes. The same goes for a cheerleader. You may not like the truth, but it IS the truth.

Anyway, I like this show because it's a reality competition show and I enjoy those. I only wish they featured more people instead of concentrating on a scant few.

Overall I give this show 5 out of 10. It's entertaining but you won't learn anything watching it.

Fussy, P.C. types get a life.
lmillington28 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This wonderful and entertaining show will not be liked by self hating, career moaning,PC types. However, for the sensible among us it shows the hard work and dedication of the candidates. It's all there, the agony and the ecstasy. Only professional standard dancers need apply and even they will get cut if they are not among the top 36 best of the best. This is harmless fun for young viewers, eye candy for red blooded men, and annoying to the elite, PC left who have nothing better to do than be offended on the behalf of others. Long may it continue. Season 2016 is being shown in the UK now. If you're offended by young, enthusiastic girls who have dreamed of earning their place as a DCC then reach for the off switch and stop your PC bleating.

This is the most sexist and offensive show on television I have seen!
brandon_harwell3 February 2007
I saw bits and pieces of one episode, like 10-15 minutes total, and that was all it took for me to see how sexist the show is and how offensive it is to women all over the world.

I did not bother to remember names, but I saw one of the girls cut. The reasoning was that she could never make it because she was overweight. Thing is, this girl was not overweight in the least, she was tall and a little buff, no more than a healthy 150. Not anywhere close to overweight in even the slightest. Furthermore, she was absolutely gorgeous, curves where they should be, no excess fat at all, toned and athletic body. She was hot! Yet they cut her for being overweight.

Sorry, but this show needs to get taken off the air. While obesity is a huge problem, for them to spread such falsehoods like 150 and athletic being overweight is completely ignorant, reckless, and offensive.

I can say for fact that this is the worst show ever!

Excellent series that shows how difficult professional cheerleading is.
jasontu17 July 2021
Dallas Cowboy Cheerleading Team is considered the best of the best in professional cheerleading. They're up there with the Laker Girls. Those who complained about this show being sexist or embarrassing for women have no idea what professional cheerleading is about. No, these are NOT just some girls selected out of a beauty pageant that goes out on the field and shake their pom poms . Yes, they are beautiful but they're also extreme athletic, great dancers, well spoken, trained in etiquette, college educated, and have excellent sense of fashion. If a girl is lacking in any of these area, they will train you.

In addition to staying in shape and memorized nearly a dozen dance routines, the cheerleaders also need to do calendar shoot, attend charity events, and do many other performances outside the regular season football games. They go through military-like boot camp training that even some men may have trouble with.

These girls are expected to perform in front of camera and appear on TV. When you're on camera, there's barrel distortion, which is when a camera lens can cause straight lines to appear curved, thus making you look fatter. This is why most actresses and models are incredibly thin and the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders are no exception. I.

I really recommend this show to everyone that is open minded or if you are thinking of auditioning for DCC because they don't hide anything, all the scenarios would happen whether the camera was there or not. It is probably best for young adults. If you are a cheerleader/dancer/enthusiast/athlete, then you will definitely love this show!

Eh
I think cheer leading in general is sexist, not to mention outdated.

This show is shocking to watch at times seeing Kelly Finglass and her cronies measure up these young women more at times based on how thin and pretty they are than on their actual talent. On the flip side, all they're there for is entertainment purposes during half time. As long as these girls know that, understand that and are okay with it, then keep on. I however, think it's crappy and think that they should go use their dancing abilities for something else instead of parading around like eye candy. They have so much to offer! This show exploits these women. And why does Kelly always have that scowl on her face? She looks like she just ate a cockroach.

The main reason I even watched this show is because I'm a dancer and enjoyed watching the dance rehearsals.

i like the show. its fun. please bring it back.
chach080419 October 2013
I just wanted to say that I like the show and think that all the girls get a fair chance. The team has guidelines and rules, which explains what the team is looking for. The girls know this. That's one of the reasons it means so much to be on the team. So leave the girls alone. I've seen the judges struggling to find ways to keep the girls. The judges have been sweet and supportive. They let the girls know ahead of time what their weaknesses are and ask them to fix them. They offer extra support by giving suggestions on how to fix problems. The girls can work with a veteran and they can take dance classes. Not fair to end the show in the middle of the season. We waited all summer to watch. Thank you.

Embarrassing for women
dorianesteele8 September 2018
This show should be canceled. These women demand respect yet dance like they're on a stripper pole half naked. It's embarrassing for the woman who advance themselves intellectually and push to be a decent contributor to society. These woman are twenty-something's and still live with their parents or mooch off their significant others since they can't support themselves because they choose to use their bodies instead of brains. It's just embarrassing. The show is trash TV

Awesome
mskellyd12 December 2022
I bought all the seasons, and I love watching the show. I've learned so much behind the scenes of football cheerleaders team. I like each season's is a little bit different it shows you a little bit more about them. I like all the funny parts, and all of the drama that comes with it. I love Jay workouts he's does for them. Kelli and Judy are awesome and funny too. I love learning about Dallas Cowboys history that cool. Over years I have some favorite cheerleaders come and go. Kitty Carter she one of my favorite. I love how she speaks her mind and tells how it is. I always will be a fan for life.
