It’s a sunny day in Southern California. That’s not unusual. An independent movie is being shot in a quiet residential neighborhood. That’s the norm. There are a few horror icons sprinkled throughout the cast. Typical.
What’s not so usual is that The Divine Tragedies isn’t your basic stab and slab. It’s a layered family drama which just happens to have some blood and gore. At the center of this dangerous dynamic is a cop who’s hunting a team of killer brothers – but he’s got an advantage because he’s psychic. That, and he’s played by the great Ken Foree.
We caught up with Ken on set (and some of the other cast... stay tuned for more interviews) and asked him what it’s been like to play the eccentric detective.

Last year we ran a schedule of every TV/Cable network schedule we could find that could be construed as Horror or Halloween related for the month of October. Let’s just say it proved useful for our readers and even for our staff when they were looking to find something to watch, wanted to program their DVR’s or didn’t want to miss out on some great “live” Horror. Isn’t there something about having a movie fed to you on TV as opposed to watching it on Blu-ray or DVD or streaming? We may not like commercials, but the randomness that you can associate with a TV program itinerary is novel. It removes a little bit of control from the audience who is all to concerned with being in control these days (just look at the reasons behind publishing a piece like this).

Chicago – After a particularly long work day, I often find it difficult to coax my mind to sleep. That’s when I turn to Video On Demand for some free and immediate assistance. Most moviegoers would probably search for a familiar comedy or predictable romance to help their eyelids grow heavy in the wee hours of the morning. Yet my insomnia-remedy of choice will always remain FEARnet.
Nothing says instant catatonic coma quite like bargain-basement horror dreck. Titles like “Pinocchio’s Revenge” and “Brotherhood of Blood” are more effective than any dosage of Ambien or Lunesta. That’s because the vast majority of FEARnet fodder has an identical opening. Although he’s been acting professionally for most of his life (Fango-worthy credits include Blood Wars, Brotherhood Of Blood, Night Skies, Wishmaster 3 and Hoboken Hollow), in the past few years, Jason Connery has expanded his horizons to directing. He’s now in preproduction on the mixed-martial-arts actioner The Philly Kid for Warner Bros. and producer Joel Silver, but Connery’s first three films have all been science-fiction/horror stories. Pandemic dealt with a sinister disease outbreak in a small town, The Devil’S Tomb was about a military squad that unearths you-know-what and now Area 51, produced as one of the After Dark Originals and premiering this Saturday, February 26 on Syfy, explores a series of unfortunate events at that legendary military site.

Today sees the UK based satellite chanel Zone Horror re-brand itself back to the Horror Channel. As part of the celebratory proceedings the channel are airing a special Vampire Week, featuring fourteen(!) vampire movies And the Horror Channel premiere of Blade: The Series starring rapper Sticky Fingaz as the titular hero.
Why am I telling you this you may ask? Well airing as part of Vampire Week are, in my opinion, four of the Best vampire movies ever made – the Subspecies quadrilogy. As well as the not-as-good-as-the-originals Subspecies spin-off Vampire Journals. For those of you who have never heard of Subspecies, the films are a direct-to-video series produced by Full Moon Studios (Puppetmaster, Demonic Toys), which were released between 1991 to 1998, and followed the exploits of vampire Radu Vladislas, portrayed by actor Anders Hove, and his efforts to turn Michelle Morgan into his fledgling.

Backlash Films has released the first photos (see ’em below) from its currently shooting horror feature All About Evil. The movie, lensing in San Francisco, marks the directorial debut of Joshua Grannell (top photo with Julie Caitlin-Brown), who has run Landmark Theatres’ late-night movie showcase Midnight Mass for 12 years and is also known by his drag-queen alter ego Peaches Christ.
In All About Evil, which Grannell also scripted, a shy librarian inherits her father’s old movie theater, and in order to keep it from shuttering, she begins making her own horror short films to show there. What the flicks’ growing fan base doesn’t realize is that the bloodshed portrayed in them is real. The cast includes Natasha Lyonne (bottom photo with John Waters regular Mink Stole), From Within and Laid To Rest’s Thomas Dekker, Cassandra Peterson a.k.a. Elvira, Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever’s Noah Segan,...

You have to feel at least a little bit sorry for Michael Roesch and Peter Scheerer, the writer/directors of the in-name-only follow-up to Uwe Boll’s notorious creature-feature flop Alone In The Dark. Having cut their teeth penning that film and the snooze-inducing House Of The Dead II, the twosome recently turned to calling the shots behind the camera with the low-budget vampire opus Brotherhood Of Blood and this far more extravagant outing—which, nevertheless, still suffers from an obvious lack of greenbacks.
Thus, whereas the original Alone In The Dark (which few people will dispute was a convoluted, badly acted mishmash of pathetically timed jump scares, lousy monster FX and sci-fi mumbo jumbo) at least looked lavish enough to pass muster as a theatrical attraction, this installment has a lot less to fall back on. So not only did the two have to try and reinvent a franchise...

Rhetorical Question of the Day: What happens when you take a crackin' script and film it in just 12 days? Yeah, pretty much. Find out more in Ao's better-late-than-never review of Brotherhood of Blood.
I think I shuddered a little bit when I saw Michael Roesch and Peter Scheerer listed as the directors on the back of the DVD case for Brotherhood of Blood. I mean, the two names are essentially synonymous with "he who shall not be named within the pages of Quiet Earth" (psst... Uwe Boll) and, well, you know what they say about quilt by association and all that. I shrugged off the bad vibes almost immediately of course (as I like to give indie films a fair chance right up...
