This is the second half of a 2-part episode. In the first part (the 3rd Season Finale: "Eat, Drink, Dick, Mary"), Harry is kidnaped by Vicky Dubcek's (Jan Hooks) jealous boyfriend Harry (Phil Hartman). As pointed out in the trivia section, Hartman was murdered only 8 days after the Finale aired. Instead of trying to find another actor to play the character of Randy, the second part (the 4th Season Premiere: "Dr. Solomon's Traveling Alien Show") was rewritten. Another excellent comedian, Larry Miller, became Harry's "captor," although he doesn't have much to do here.
Harry is put on display in a freak show as an alien - receiving messages from The Big Giant Head - which has been happening because Dick has been ignoring orders to send in an overdue status report. The family goes looking for him. Tommy realizes Dick's memory problem is probably linked to the overdue report, but Dick rejects that idea. This gives John Lithgow wide scope to act even nuttier than usual, including a great Henry Fonda impersonation. The shabby freak show also provides laughs. One of the acts in the show is "Gigantus," who is barely bigger than Sally. Don and Mary bond over wine and a discussion of their relationships with the crazy family. They agree not to put up with their insanity any longer but promptly cave when the family comes back. All is back to "normal."
