Let It Snow!
gab-1471211 September 2019
"Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow. That's right, folks! This is the episode where the Solomons discover snow for the first time and overreact in a hilarious fashion. In "Frozen Dick," Harry finds a job at a video store, and that gives Tommy an idea that all college students think about at least once in their lives- watch a film instead of reading a book for the term's paper. Sally is all alone, afraid of the snow-but one of Dick's students, Leon (played by Lithgow's son, actually) gives her some company when he comes to drop off a paper. Finally, Dick and Mary are heading to Chicago to accept an award, but apparently Dick is afraid to fly.

This is one of the episode's better episodes. It's funny, heartfelt, and well-acted. The chemistry between Lithgow and Curtin gets better as each episode appears. I loved the idea of introducing snow to this family. I guess it is the end of the world for this family because of these frozen water pellets. Definitely a great episode!

My Grade: A-

Oh what a beautiful evening

I am not sure how I came across this episode, but as a huge fan of John Raitt I am very glad I did. When the power went out in the diner, Jane Curtin suggested singing show tunes and "Trucker Gil" turn around, takes off his hat and I saw that shock of white hair, I wanted to cheer! Then "Gil" says "I reckon I can do that" I wanted the episode to go on forever just to hear that voice! I have to admit that I didn't watch third rock as much as I should have, but this episode was well worth a second look. I never did see it again, but am considering purchasing the DVD just to be thrilled again.

Thanks so much Lee Ann in Ohio

One of the best episodes of "3rd Rock," beyond a shadow of a doubt, is "Frozen Dick"!

Though the snow thing is a mystery considering the time of year that this episode was released (though, I suppose, maybe not in Ohio), the aliens' first experience with it is one of their best discoveries ever. Dick gets himself and Mary thrown off a plane and then crashes their car into a snowbank. Harry suffers through the lack of customers at the video store. But to take the Kewpie doll, Sally, thinking the race has gone extinct and she and a visiting Leon are the last individuals on Earth, decides it is her duty to repopulate the planet. An episode full of hilarious gags, witty humor, and a classic reference to the only good part of "Twilight Zone: The Movie."

"'A lusty romp through the cheese and sausage shops of Communist East Berlin.'"

My favorite..

Warning: Spoilers
I stayed up until 3:30 this morning just to watch one scene in my favorite episode! Mary and Dick are stranded in a diner during a snowstorm. To keep spirits up, Dick serenades Mary with the title song from OKLAHOMA! The diner patrons join in. Then a man at the counter turns to add his beautiful baritone to the group-and it's John Raitt, who played Curly in the national touring company of the musical. What a voice!

Another sly reference was when Dick looked out the window of the plane he and Mary were scheduled to fly, and yelled the there was something on the wing (he played that role in the Twighlight Zone movie). Needless to say his behavior got them ejected from the flight.

I must buy the DVD set of the show so I can see this episode at my leisure instead of the middle of the night!
