Jeff is hired by assistant librarian Alice Smith Gallante, self-professed as non-worldly, she who wants him to find her husband, Adam Gallante. Alice believes Adam has amnesia, but Jeff knows from her story that Adam purposefully walked out on her on their wedding day. Having only known him for four weeks, Alice is unable to provide a photograph or much of a description with everything about him being "medium" except for his baby blue eyes, yet she knew that he was the most caring man she had ever met and that they were and are destined to be with each other. The other important part of Alice's story, but one she treats almost like a throwaway: some unknown person has been trying to kill her since Adam's disappearance. As the starting points, Jeff checks Adam's last known address and what was his place of employment, he a door-to-door salesman with Oooh La La Imports - the merchandise being provocative but cheap ladies wear - which is how he and Alice met, she one of his customers. Undercover, Roscoe is able to get Adam's old job at Oooh La La, owned by Joey Webb, Roscoe and Kookie who split the door-to-door duties. What Jeff, Kookie and Roscoe find at every turn is a trail of women of all varieties who only have their hearts for Adam, some who also claim to be Mrs. Gallante and, like Alice, who attempts have been made on their lives following they last having seen Adam. Jeff does find one Mrs. Gallante who was killed in what on the surface seems like a freak accident. Jeff and Kookie will ultimately find that there is more of a mystery about Adam Gallante than just his whereabouts or whether he is the one trying to kill his wives.
