About ready to head home from London after a case, Jeff is contacted by Benny Markham, a good-natured safe-cracker who helped him on the case. Benny tells him a story of doing a simple job for a mobster named Blackpool Eddie of cracking a safe and stealing a small vial inside. What Benny only later discovered is what he stole was a radioactive isotope, he now with radiation poisoning, the doctor giving him two weeks to live. Benny wants Jeff to help him find Blackpool Eddie and anyone else behind Eddie in this scheme that effectively killed him. With £200 in his pockets from the job itself, Benny wants at least to live it up in his final days rather than spending them behind bars. Regardless, Jeff, without using Benny's name, feels that because of the nature of what was stolen that the police at Scotland Yard would still be an asset. However, what contacting Scotland Yard does is place Jeff under suspicion for the theft. As such, Jeff not only has to find Eddie, but elude the police at the same time. The key to discovering what is going on may be the reason for someone wanting the isotope in the first place.
