"Birthday" features a gathering of family and friends for Edina's fortieth birthday, but it seems Edina has gotten out of the wrong side of the bed! Saffy's guest list includes Justin, and his boyfriend, Oliver (played by Gary Beadle, who also played Oliver in the "Happy New Year" episode, and the special, "The Last Shout.") Edina's mother is also on hand for the birthday lunch and festivities. Patsy arrives by way of motorcycle. Edina's first ex-husband, Marshall, and his girlfriend Bo are on the guest list, and they are introduced in this episode. As usual, Serge is mentioned but absent for the birthday event. During the gathering it is learned that Marshall and Justin are both paying support on Edina's household. The ex-husbands decide to look into the matter, which is later solved in the "Poor" episode. One of Edina's birthday gifts is a karaoke entertainment system, which Edina and Patsy use to full advantage! They even sing the show's theme song!

Edina has turned 40, and she isn't happy about it, Saffy has arranged a party, but it's all ex husbands and partners.
Justin and Marshall are annoyed to discover that they're still paying maintenance, keeping Edina in the lavish lifestyle she's accustomed to.
It's a seriously funny episode with some belly laugh moments, Eddie's gifts and the banter with her ex husbands, my favourite bit though, the karaoke.
It's a scream. 9/10

Edina is now the Big Four O and even more the spoilt precocious brat than usual, really more of a 4 year old than 40.
Talking of which one of Edna's exes Marshall has been invited by Saffy, and arrives with his partner.
The American Bo who insisted on, treating Marshall as a 2 year old toddler.
Saffy has also insisted on inviting the whole extended family to her mums 40th, Eddie refused to even consider the concept.
Edina still can't abide either her exes or their partners, but she is more than happy to continue to take them to the cleaners over child maintenance.
