Patsy at work: An AbFab classic
onnanob27 April 2007
Warning: Spoilers
"Magazine" reveals Patsy's line of work, and she's this episode's main focus. Patsy attends a magazine staff meeting, and some new characters are introduced. The staff includes: Magda (Kathy Burke, who would repeat the role in "Hospital," "Fear," "The End," and "The Last Shout"), and the duo of Fleur and Catriona (Harriet Thorpe and Helen Lederer, who both continue to repeat their roles in various episodes.) Jennifer Saunders' husband, Adrian Edmondson, appears as the magazine's food expert named Hamish (he also appears in "New Best Friend.") Eddy goes along to the meeting, and picks up some freebies. She's also been reunited with an old flame, and we learn she's getting in stock for her new and unusual shop. Patsy is told she has to go on television for a fashion make-over spot, but has trouble finding models. Patsy attempts to get Saffy and Eddy's mother as her fashion victims. "AbFab" co-creator, Dawn French, appears as a t.v. personality. Eleanor Bron debuts on the show as Patsy's mother in one of Patsy's flashbacks. Other flashbacks featuring Patsy's mother can be seen in "Birth," and "Cold Turkey." Bubble is not in this episode.

You can never have enough hats, shoes and gloves.

Patsy has a job! I always thought it was the most random part of Absolutely Fabulous, Patsy actually being employed. We are introduced to her fabulous, zany bunch of colleagues, including the wonderful, rough around the edges Magda.

It's a joy to watch, so funny, in particular the scene where a desperate Patsy manipulates Saffy into becoming her model, and of course Patsy's stint on mid morning television with the marvellous Dawn French.

An excellent send off to the first series. It's one of the best. 9/10

Great Patsy episode

Patsy is offered the chance to be interviewed for style advice during a television makeover.

This is a very enjoyable episode with some great character insight and very funny moments.

The plot focuses more on Patsy and we have some funny and sad reflections on her past. There are also some solid cameos from famous faces that work well. As ever the banter between all characters is excellent.

There are lots of memorable scenes like Edina's exchanges with Saffy about their respective love lives and Patsy's stories about her mother. Patsy's television debut is probably my favourite scene.

All performances as excellent with Joanna Lumley standing out and Jennifer Saunders, Julia Sawalha and June Whitfield as strong as ever. This one includes nice cameos from Kathy Burke, Dawn French and Adrian Edmondson.

For me it's an 8.5/10 but I round upwards.
