This is the only Episode that has Hawke needing Dom's help in controlling the speeds of Airwolf from normal to Mach-1. In a few other episodes later on, where Hawke is flying alone, he is able to control the speeds to slowing down the helicopter from mach-1, just by pressing a few buttons by himself.
The Airwolf computer identifies the incoming fighters as MiG-23S Floggers, which is the correct designation for the aircraft. However, the MiG23S was a limited production variant. Only 60 were ever built and they were used primarily for flight and operational testing. They were never used in active front-line service.
The Boeing Skyfox, the plane that the Air Force pilots are flying, never saw active service in the USAF or any other military organization. In fact, only one prototype was ever built. There was never a squadron of them, not even for testing.
When Hawke is piloting Airwolf out of the Lair at 35:33 on the DVD/Blu-Ray, he is shown wearing a flightsuit with the name 'Gordon' on it. Gordon was the co-pilot in the pilot episode, making this re-used footage. While it might have been possible that Hawke hadn't had time to get a new suit since he stole Airwolf, the image is flipped horizontally, indicating the production crew wanted to slip it past the viewers.
